Oh Joy.

Okay, I’m real torn on this.

First there’s the sheer terror of Liz Cheney, Dick’s clone child, being a United States Senator.

Ms. Cheney, 46, is showing up everywhere in the state, from chicken dinners to cattle growers’ meetings, sometimes with her parents in tow. She has made it clear that she wants to run for the Senate seat now held by Michael B. Enzi, a soft-spoken Republican and onetime fly-fishing partner of her father.

When I first heard that, I almost strangled on my heart. Seriously.

But, there’s an upside.

But Ms. Cheney’s move threatens to start a civil war within the state’s Republican establishment, despite the reverence many hold for her family.

Mr. Enzi, 69, says he is not ready to retire, and many Republicans say he has done nothing to deserve being turned out.

It would bring about “the destruction of the Republican Party of Wyoming if she decides to run and he runs, too,” Alan K. Simpson, a former Republican senator from the state, said in an interview last week. “It’s a disaster — a divisive, ugly situation — and all it does is open the door for the Democrats for 20 years.”

Now I know that giving us Democrats for 20 years doesn’t come anywhere close to getting even for what Dick Cheney did to this country, but it might be fun to see Liz both destroy the Republican Party and lose.

I’d pay cash American money to see that.

Thanks to Brian for the heads up.

  1. I’ll bet people who never voted before in Wyoming might find the time to come out against Darth Vader’s dead-eyed hate bagging spawn.

I suppose comparisons between the Cheney family and the Kim dynasty of North Korea are in order. Funny how folks claiming to channel the Founding Fathers vision of democracy are so eager to bring back a hereditary aristocracy.

I am so stealing “The Cheney Dynasty.”

  4. Damn! This chick has channeled her mamma’s nasty side as her own. Seen her in action. Ugh! This one had a bunch of girls before popping a boy. Do not currently know if she has stopped all that or has had another kid. Her job with the government was pure cream. She could take off as long as she wanted for maternity leave and whatever. No one told her “Hey, no one else can do that so you can’t either.” If you even come close to an objection with her “work” style, you stand a good chance of hurtin’. Just sayin’.

Liz can split the Repug vote if she so desires, but it’s interesting that Dad’s old “friend” is disposable in the interest of expediency.
Dick’s friends are used to getting shot down.

  6. Liz Cheney destroys the Wyoming Republican Party? Now that’s on par with an old Godzilla flick. I’d pay cash money to watch too JJ. Pass the popcorn!

Gee, the idea that something–anything–would happen to destroy Rethugs in Wyoming is something I can really get behind. Pass the popcorn!

And some of the other Republicans in Wyoming are not too happy with her because she just moved there about a year ago with her 5 kids. She was raised in DC, so they rightly believe she is not really one of them.

And have you noticed that Republican women like Cheney, Palin and Bachmann all have fairly large broods of children and they preach about “family values,” yet they’re busy running around the state or the country and usually without said children. Really great mothers…NOT.

  11. Hate to tell you popcorn eaters, but Orville Redenbacher’s kernals are of the GMO-laced stuff … if you are going to pass the popcorn, do so with popped kernals that aren’t related to Monsanto!!

Sorry to pop your kernals, but ole Orville is guilty!!

  12. A word of advice to Mickey – don’t let Dick take you hunting. Just don’t.

One of the commentors on the Washington Post’s “Wrong” Turn blog about Liz Cheney referred to her as “Daddy’s Little Deferment.” So true, so true.
