Rick Perry’s BIG Announcement

July 08, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

He’s not running for Governor.   In his speech, he took credit for everything that everybody else did in Texas.

He’s starting a PAC.

For those of you who think Perry leaving is a good thing, let me introduce you to Greg Abbott.   Perry without the compassion and charm.

  1. One of my coworkers, bless him, said, “Have you heard the news?” I hadn’t. This was the news. Then we discussed the horribleness of Republican candidates for governor.

  2. Umptydump says:

First smart thing Perry’s done in years. Now he can devote full time and all his energies to fertilizer plant safety inspections.

    2
  3. The BIG announcement is plastered on Facebook …

    3
  4. Yesterday I saw a headline saying that Perry had not ruled out running for the Presidency in 2016. I’m guessing that’s a go.

  5. Bud Malone says:

Texas is a large state with many positives. Unfortunately, that doesn’t include “statesmen” running for high office. Derision? They are all well qualified for large measures of it.

    5
  6. Perry as the R candidate for Prez in 2016? Well, hello President Hillary Clinton!

  7. Mike in MO says:

I suppose we should have seen this coming, it puts him one step closer to the big money.

  8. From the ‘Wendy David for Texas Governor’ Facebook page: “Conventional political wisdom has been saying for some time now that Rick Perry has become a drag on the fortunes of the Republican Party of Texas and its intentions to maintain power. Almost every candidate that might run for Governor next year has been beating him in polls, so his decision not to run is no surprise really. Yes, it will be nice to be rid of him, but make no mistake, this event does NOT improve our chances if our goal is regime change in Austin. This is a setback for those chances, in this one person’s opinion. So, before you break out the champagne, think about this: With Perry out of the picture, we must work even harder than before to overthrow the power-hungry Republicans in Austin. It is do-able absolutely, but it will be difficult, and today’s decision by the Governor have made it even more so.”

We have our work cut out for us!

  9. I see where Perry blamed his poor performance in the last presidential race on his back surgery. Maybe prior to the next race he’ll have a lobotomy. Couldn’t hurt…

Oh, goody…another way for him to soak up some dollars.

  11. daChipster says:

As I said earlier, Abbott’s big challenge is to try to be as much like Rick Perry without appearing to be too much like Rick Perry. Which has always been Rick Perry’s problem, and will continue to be as he runs for President again.

He has to be, because der GOTP-volken don’t donate to PACs of retired Governors unless there’s a possibility for payback somewhere down the road.

In the meantime, he will continue to foist his own version of “Kinder, Küche, Kirche” onto you poor people.

  12. A PAC. Isn’t that one of those….. send me all the money you can things?

JJ – you say he took credit for everything…. anybody else has done.

O.K. I’m game. What has anybody done? Most of the jobs in this state pay minimum wage. West, Texas was obliterated by a fertilizer plant explosion. Nobody regulates anything, and if it is ….. on the off-chance… regulated…. nobody inspects it. Teachers, firefighters, and police officers have lost their jobs because we dare not utter the word “taxes” in Texas. Before he leaves office…. he will sign one of the most restrictive pieces of legislation on women’s rights in the country. Kids go hungry. Citizens have no health insurance. If he wants to take credit for all this, and more….. let him have it.

And, if Abbott runs….. let us not forget the huge insurance settlement he got….. before we enacted “tort reform”.. and let us not forget the money that has been totally wasted by the Attorney General on the dozens of law suits he has filed, and lost….. against the government of the United States.

My money is on Wendy Davis for Governor. Texas cannot endure….. more of the …… same ….. as….. Rick …. Perry.

AMEN to all of the above. Rant rant. Get those T shirts and bumper stickers ready and write and talk every chance you get, in grocery stores, in elevators, in restaurants, etc. YOU CAN DO IT. Get rid of your natural shyness. It’s your life or theirs.

  14. RepubAnon says:

It’s a real pity that Governor Goodhair has decided to cash in. It would have been nice to see him soundly defeated in an election, and taken his party down to defeat as well. One only hopes that enough of the folks in Texas still allowed to vote will help defeat whatever immoral clown the Republicans nominate for the job.

I expect he’ll be working as a commentator on Fox News with Sarah Palin before too long.

    14
  15. AG Greg Abbott will base his entire campaign for governor on how many times he has sued the Obama administration.

He said he’s asked what his job entails and explained it’s gotten simplified.

“I go into the office in the morning,” he said, “I sue Barack Obama, and then I go home.”

  16. Marge Wood says:

I’d also suggest we push for the new governor to live in the very nice apartment in the top of the Capitol, thereby saving a ton of money for taxpayers. It’s not big but I betcha they could have parties and other events in large open areas of the Capitol.

    16
  17. Texas can’t seem to win. To go from Perry to Abbott is not forward; it’s probably a step back. Abbott is lacking more than just compassion and charm; he has an awful personality.

  18. JAKvirginia says:

A friend sent me this. Seems to fit this situation.

When it comes to politicians running for office, most people challenge them with some pretty complex and difficult questions. I have just one: How does a toilet work?

You see, the average toilet is one of the simplest of household appliances. Take the top off the tank and flush. In a few minutes you’ll see everything there is to know about how one works. If the operation of that device confounds you then there’s a very good chance the complexities of human reproduction or job creation are also beyond your understanding.

Now, in my opinion, I doubt most politicians could satisfy “The Toilet Test”. Which surprises me somewhat since most are just an inch or two above a sewer.

  19. W C Peterson says:

Good for Rick. He finally paid attention to Newt and found out where the REAL MONEY is. When you’re governor, you can steal but you have to try to hide it. If you own a PAC, you can just steal, like Newt Gingrich and Karl Rove do all the time. The rick bitches don’t seem to care at all.

@daChipster: BRAVO! You managed to get your point across without violating Godwin’s Law. Excellent!

    OKAY, I’ll bite!
    What compassion? What charm?
We are talking abbott here aren’t we?

  23. Nine Things We Won’t Miss About Rick Perry

    1. He allowed Texas to become the nation’s worst polluter.
    2. He executed a likely innocent man and impeded an investigation into the matter.
    3. He actively sought to dismantle Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
    4. He consistently backed legislation to restrict women’s reproductive rights.
    5. He demonized LGBT Texans and worked to increase legal discrimination against them.
    6. He backed nullification of federal laws and even raised the prospect of secession.
    7. He refused to let the federal government provide healthcare for low-income Texans, despite the highest rate of uninsured residents in the country.
    8. He vetoed bipartisan Equal Pay legislation to protect Texas women.
    9. He called for repeal of the 16th and 17th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, to end popular election of Senators and the federal income tax.

  24. Ellen Childress says:

Don’t forget, there is another possible candidate for governor of Texas . . . . Tom Pauken. He could, maybe, possibly, cause me to desert my Democrat roots long enough to vote Republican.
I am still not convinced that the Democratic Party in Texas can produce enough viable candidates to take back the state. And the thought of Abbot or Dewhurst for governor makes me feel queasy.
Now that we know why Perry has been so driven to get this anti-abortion bill passed ( his sister’s position with and lobbying for doctor-owned ambulatory surgery centers) and to support charter schools ( his sister is or was on the board of Uplift Charter Schools ), perhaps we can stop fighting about the “morality” issue and understand that the real battle here is about money for the Perry family.

For some reason I had a dream that he was going to come out of the closet today. Instead we get this derp. Please!
