Here’s the Deal
I am unable to go to Austin today and that makes me mad as the dickens. As you probably know, there is ice flowing in my veins, and I’d hate to give up being a warm blooded creature and lose my career as a semi-famous minor local E-list celebrity. Okay, that was an overstatement. We’ll go with “person vaguely known at the local grocery store.”
So, since the weather in Austin is unwelcoming to cold blooded creatures, I’m leaving it to my younger sisters to go fight the good fight. They have promised to text me during the day and send pictures.
I’ll post first hand updates here and update it throughout the day.
You go, Girlfriends!
UPDATE: They encouraged women to show up at 7:00 this morning to sign up to testify. In this case, the blue shirts are the bad guys and the orange shirts are the good guys. Rumor had it that the blue shirted government control people were going to be let in first. So … orange shirts lined up outside the capitol, trying to get in the speak at 7:00 this morning.
UPDATE#2 (11:20) My friend and Matagorda County Democratic Chairman Nora Dearing sent this picture of the line waiting to get into the hearing room.
And her ticket showing that she is in Group #9 to testify. She is going to have a loooong wait.
Nora says it’s pretty peaceful so far but she did see a sign saying Ohio Supports Pro-Life Texas. She says the number of blue and orange shirts are about even.
Nora showing off the posters they are giving out at the capitol.
Hey as a person vaguely known at the local grocery store, I object. Being vaguely know means people at the grocery store don’t laugh and point as much as the people who know me.
1I’m sorry you can’t come but that will make more room for me, if I get my act together and get dressed in the orange shirt I found at the thrift store yesterday and I find a parking place downtown and I don’t take a bus from the parking place and then take the wrong bus back to my car and end up in Manchaca or someplace. I stayed up way too late last night researching the Koch brothers and their 3 prong ten year plan for the United States of Kochdom. Listen, this isn’t just about Tayuksis. It’s also about North Carolina and Wisconsin et al. The Koch brothers consider North Carolina to be a great place for them to experiment with making radical changes to their liking. Then if they like it, they plan to take it on the road. (You can find the same info yourself.) You reckon Texas is the backup plan? I gotta go get dressed. You write, I’ll glare. And pray. And sign in against SB1. Leaving texting to the kids. Leaving my hearing aid home just in case.
2Mike, they’re just jealous. I like you fine just the way you are. Ditto, Juanita Jean.
3Hey, here’s a link to an article I just found that may be cause for more visits to Austin:

4Update: The line to sign up to testify on SB1 has re-opened and will be open til 9pm tonight.
5Keep up the good fight. Just came across an article about an 11-year-old rape victim in Chile who is being denied an abortion due to laws set in that country. http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/rape-11-year-old-chile-sparks-national-debate-over-abortion-ban. Doctors are arguing the pregnancy is threatening her health, but the laws prevent them from helping her.
6Beall’s is having a 50% off the last marked price sale. I was there yesterday and there were many, many orange shirts of all kinds (and shades of orange). Bought an orange t-shirt with rhinestone boot of Texas on it. (That book was made for kicking.) It is my official rally t-shirt. Go stock up on orange clothing so you can wear it everywhere. (I personally am not a big fan of orange but I’ll wear it for Wendy and the women of Texas.)
7They may be late to the party, but allegedly they’re on their way!

8Thanks, Cindy. Should have looked there at BEall’s yesterday. Main thing is, it needs to be cotton so it won’t be too hot.
