Oh Dude, Saran Wrap is Less Transparent

June 11, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

For people from foreign states who need to catch up – Rosemary Lehmberg is the Travis County DA.  In Travis County (county seat: Austin), the district attorney is charged with investigating and prosecuting public corruption cases all over Texas.  Lehmberg is a Democrat.

She got caught drunk driving.  She admitted her guilt and took the stiffest punishment – she went to jail.

Now Rick Perry wants her to resign.  But not because of her having a drunk driving conviction.  He wants her to resign because he would get to appoint the new district attorney.

And he would appoint one of his Republican good ole boys.  Democrats all over Texas will be found guilty of felony littering.  And Tom DeLay would get his conviction dismissed.

Lehmberg is refusing to step down and Perry can’t force her to do it.

So, he’s doing what Perry does best.  He’s being a bully.

Gov. Rick Perry is vowing to veto funding for the state’s Austin-based ethics-enforcement unit unless Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg resigns, officials confirmed Monday.

Perry has until Sunday to veto bills passed by the Legislature during its regular session that ended in May, including the state budget that contains about $7.5 million to fund the Public Integrity Unit for the next two years.

He’s threatening to take away funding for public integrity in Texas unless this woman does his bidding and turns her office over to him – Rick Perry.

It is interesting to me that every political prognosticator in Texas is pretty darn certain that every Republican statewide candidate in Texas in 2014 will be a male.  It’s like a testosterone summer camp.   They won’t have even one woman on the GOP statewide ticket.

Don’t get me wrong.  I am no fan of drunk driving.  But, I hope District Attorney Lehmberg stands up to Rick Perry and calls his bluff.  I mean, after all, how’s it gonna look when he runs for President again and we can tell everyone that he defunded public integrity in Texas?

Be social and share!

  1. OK, if a male DA was caught drunk driving, would it make the front pages and end up this same way? Perry is a total complete certified linker!

I am beginning to think we should have voter IQ laws instead of voter ID laws. If you had to have an IQ above 60 to vote, it would probably eliminate most Republican voters.

  3. Rats. Can’t read the whole story because I’m not a Statesman subscriber.

What else can we expect from Rick the Prick? (Apologies to Mama but there’s no other way to say it!)

  5. Wyatt_Earl says:

    He defunded public integrity
He used his office to bully a Democratic woman
    and . . . . oops.

Seriously, he’ll defund it. These folks ain’t got no shame, and its wrong for us to expect them to discover any.

  6. Miss Prissybritches says:

We should all email Ms. Lehmberg, lending our moral support to stand up against the Perry Machine. Never hurts to know that you have folks in your corner.

  7. Wait … there’s public integrity in Texas? Hmmmm … when did that happen?

It would seem to me that the only integrity to be found is in JJs Beauty Shop!! I’m with you in hoping Ms. Lehmberg stands her ground and just show what a lamebrained bully Perry is … good grief!!!

  8. @SusanF, here’s a website that has several stories on this.
    http://offthekuff.com/wp/?p=52250

Perry, the AH, is probably madder at her for being a lesbian than for the DUI. Besides, he’d rather give the money to his cronies than some damn integrity thing. Republicans think they don’t need integrity and prove it every day.

  9. Marge Wood says:

Is that legal, to take away funding for ANY function, because of a personal dislike of someone? I would assume there are some good lawyers on this. I sure hope so. Shame on Perry. We need to write an epic with the repeating chorus ever so often being SHAME ON PERRY.

  10. I think we should defund the governors office…after all Perry debated under the influence–even if they were legal drugs–and made himself all sorts of a national joke.

  11. Rod Tanner, if it weren’t for the shameful history of voter testing in this country, I’d press for some sort of Voter Current Events Awareness Test too. If you think that Saddam had WMDs and was responsible for 9/11, that climate change isn’t happening or isn’t our fault, or that Obama is a Communist/Muslim/Kenyan/Socialist, you can’t vote because you don’t pay attention.

  12. Who’s wife got ticketed for DWI about 8-10 years ago. It was somebody high up. SOS or Lt Gov? Did Perry defund him, too?

  13. Corinne Sabo says:

Icky Ricky woldn’t know public integrity from a hole in the ground or many other things. Another of his oops things.

    13
  14. Perry is a sociopath, as are Dewhurst and Abbott. He doesn’t have any core beliefs. It’s all about seizing power and the ability to use that power over weaker people to his advantage.

    14
  15. More proof that Perry is dipcrap stoopid. All he has to do is leave a buck in the budget and he can claim to have overfunded public integrity in Texas.

  16. Rubymay says:

I agree with Rhea, but i must add to “Communist/Muslim/Kenyan/Socialist” “Fascist/Nazi/Dictator” — just want to cover all the bases here. Rhea’s right you know — these idiots shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

  17. Lyntilla says:

I’m so glad you brought this up, because I’ve really felt she’s gotten extra crap for being a woman, and I’ve been dying to say this all day. After Perry defunds the public integrity unit because of Ms. Lehmberg, is he going to change the name of the Bob Bullock Tx history museum? After all, Mr. Bullock worked hard for TX, but he was also a known mean drunk for many years, until he went for treatment. What about G.W. Bush being re-elected after it came out that he had been arrested for driving drunk (when it was a LOT harder to be arrested for driving drunk) and then concealed it during his campaign? I don’t remember Perry expressing outrage then.

  18. Robin Frazier says:

They have wanted control of this office for 20 + yrs. All of the push and gerrymandering around Austin is based on this. They are bad enough but the Travis DA position in Repug hands is a political nuke. They will not just ignore their crooks, they will go after innocent opponents. No elected democrat will be safe.
