Plus, We’ve Been Told that He’s Black

Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania has a big damn mouth, thank God.  Speaking about the defeat of background checks, Toomey spilled the beans.

“In the end it didn’t pass because we’re so politicized. There were some on my side who did not want to be seen helping the president do something he wanted to get done, just because the president wanted to do it,” Toomey said.

So, if Obama were to find a cure for cancer and it costs a buck fifty a shot, Republicans would vote it down because it would make Obama look good?

We really missed the boat here.  We should have started the rumor that Obama invented the 3-D printed guns.  Republicans would ban them so fast they’d leave a trail of smoke getting to the House chamber.

Thanks to Miemaw for the heads up.

  1. Finally! A flat out admission of what we all knew! What a bunch of moral slobs!

  2. Note to Gopeers. You lost the election. Get over it. You are going to continue to loose.

  3. Sadly, the political landscape in this country has degenerated into a big game of “Let’s Make Obama Look Bad”.

If the Death Star was about to obliterate the Earth, and Barack Skywalker was the only one who could save us because he knew were the exhaust port was to destroy it, Republicans wouldn’t even give him an X-wing fighter to at least try.

OK, that’s a little over the top, but I’m just sayin’.

In the same vein, I know a certain family who deliberately do things that “liberals” don’t like: e.g., they order 32 oz. fountain drinks when they’re not thirsty, they dump all their trash at the curb in garbage bags and place the empty recycling container very visibly next to the trash…..

Toomey committed the cardinal sin of inside the beltway politics: he told the truth. And it exposes the wider narrative. If the GOP is willing to play this game with people’s LIVES just to check the President, then surely they will stop at nothing else, either. The economic recovery, health care, jobs, the environment, foreign policy, judicial nominees — “meh, who cares?” they seem to be saying, “so long as we don’t let that boy look better than us.”

  7. On those 3-D printed guns.

There is so much wrong with this, I don’t know where to start.

  8. Every so often a politician will say something that is clearly well outside the party line. When this happens, it’s usually when a strange thing occurs, known as ‘telling the truth.’ This is usually followed by a common thing occurring, known as ‘excommunication’, otherwise called a ‘career-limiting move’.

Nobody was surprised by the announcement, just that a Republican came out and said it. If that doesn’t make centrist (if there are any hiding somewhere) Republicans immediately change their registration, then nothing can. Given all the pain and suffering that has gone on as a result of the profligate Bush presidency, to have them refuse to govern responsibly is an indictment of the worst kind. They should all be prosecuted for fraud.

  10. Someone said before the last election that Obama ought to go on TV saying that it was a bad idea to play in traffic, drink antifreeze, and juggle running chainsaws, so certain people would be guaranteed to run out and do all of them.

JJ, that’s the best analogy I’ve heard– yes, I’m sure the GOP in Congress WOULD vote down a one-dollar cure for cancer if Obama supported it. There are plenty of parents who ought to be hauled off for denying their daughters the vaccination against cervical cancer because they think it promotes sex– they’d rather have their child die of a horrible disease.

“I don’t care what happens to anyone else as long as I feel morally pure!” And I bet they think they’re good Christians.

  11. Pat, you’re telling us something that we don’t already know? Now, switch parties & I’ll feel better.

    11
  12. Republicans already banned them, JJ.

  13. 3D printe guns???? made by the same factory Obama visited? I sincerly hope not.
And yes, the last years have been all about making Obama look bad. I kew that’s all it ever was…Was mad for so long, I just got tired. I know the Prez is over it, too. But Rick Perry for potus? Better start thinkin bout how to haul the dogs to Canada…If its gotta be a Repug, please Lord, let it be Christie.
