East Texas, Of Course
The John H. Reagan Camp #2156, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Texas Division, Palestine, Texas, are building a Confederate Veterans Memorial Plaza. They are building it under a tree, which according to oral history, was used for lynchings.
This 100 foot by 60 foot “park” is across the street from the current veterans memorial park.
Here is an artist rendition of the [ark.
You can’t help but notice that there’s no American flag flying there.
The Palestine Branch of NAACP is planning a peaceful protest tomorrow. The Texas Coalition of Black Democrats is asking for help but wants to make is very clear that this is a peaceful protest.
Order of Business
There will be a march to the Confederate Park and back to the Farmers Market beginning at 9:00 a.m. After the march, a Peace Rally will be held with various guest speakers at the Farmers Market. The Farmers Market will be open for the rally until 4:00 p.m.
Expectations:
All participants are expected be peaceful at all times. If you feel that you can not remain peaceful, our cause would be better served with your absence.
I can’t be there but if you are anywhere in the area, please go. Please be peaceful and respectful of the wishes of the Coalition of Black Democrats.
Thanks to Cecil for the heads up.
The Farmers’ Market may experience a run on tomatoes…and not for cooking.
1Blessings and peace be on them all, especially the protesters.
2The “artist’s rendition” puzzles me. The walkways are crossed like the battle flag. Are they gonna add stars? If so, will the stars be like the personalized bricks folks buy to contribute to memorials and hospital grounds? Or will they be dedicated to Famous Racists? I really like that idea and hope they’ll take that up to display their true colors.
The bunker-like shapes: deer blinds? Mobil homes? Video game hostels for battle re-enactments? Too bed there were pretty much none on Texas turf for them to commemorate.
So are these people leaving out the US flag? Any of them anti-American?
3Yuck. I think I threw up a little in my mouth.
Good Grief.
4Perhaps lynching is one of the things they want to memorialize.
5To continue to hoop and holler for the Confederacy shows limited imagination. They lost the war. Cheering for losers doesn’t make much if any sense.
6Wrong word LynnN: Reinstate!
7Wrong word LynnN: Reinstate!
And Bud, that explains a lot about Aggies…and Cubs fans 😀
8And we wonder why the Rethugs won’t accept that they lost the last election. Heck they’re still fighting the Civil War!
9I’m all for honoring our deceased family members, but the Confederacy was bent on tearing our country apart and enslaving a whole race of human beings. Not much honor in that.
I like the peace rally announcement. I think the folks who might participate will understand it exactly, but it’s includes a secret code that the park supporters would never get: our cause would be better served with your absence.
Seriously, I like everything about the way that announcement is written; makes me proud to be on the side of the good guys.
10Peaceful demonstrations may try your patience but are well worth the effort.
