Letters, We Get Letters, We Get Stacks and Stacks of … Okay, We Got Four
Mother Jones did an article about Governor Rick Perry and his adorable little Texas Enterprise Fund.
Watchdog groups have long argued that the Texas Enterprise Fund, a taxpayer-funded program that has awarded more than $487 million to big businesses that set up shop in the Lone Star State since 2004, is a slush fund that allows Gov. Rick Perry to reward allies and political donors. Despite the criticisms, the Texas State Auditor’s Office hasn’t examined the fund’s finances in at least a decade. Now a bipartisan group of state senators is pushing a bill that would subject the Enterprise Fund to an independent state audit. But Perry’s office won’t explain whether the governor backs the idea. Besides, it says, the state’s top three Republicans have everything under control.
Besides the obvious fact that the last time we had three Republicans having “everything under control,” we ended up in a war that didn’t need fighting paid for by money we did have, there remains another problem. The three Republicans are the Governor, the Lt. Governor, and the Speaker of the Texas House – three Republicans who are tighter than skin on a sausage. In all honesty, the word cahoots was invented to describe these three guys.
It’s been six months since you first read about this right here at the beauty salon. The Associated Press was investigating it but that’s about it.
Hell, we can’t even put convicted felon Tom DeLay (yeah, I still like saying that) in prison. Do you honestly think we give a big bear’s butt about how Rick Perry became a millionaire on a public servant’s salary? Toss back the covers and get outta bed if you do.
Look, it ain’t like this is the first taxpayer money that Rick Perry has frittered away to his friends. There was Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas that Rick Perry will burn in hell for that saw scientist resign and throw up their hands. There was the Emerging Technology Fund almost three years ago that I told you about where money was scammed from Texas through Governor Perry.
The Mother Jones story is not an event – it’s a habit. Rich Perry has more slush than the Dairy Queen.
He has single handedly disproved George Bush’s theory that you can’t get fooled again. Yeah, ya can. Rick Perry is the fooler and Texans are the foolees.
Thanks to everybody for the heads up.
I guess it’s pointless to suggest that the Texas Attorney General should be investigating. There’s that word “cahoots” popping up again.
1Does Bubba have any pull with the feds? Would make one heck of a story:
Governot and Top Execs Indicted.
I can think of words in addition to cahoots that were made up just for this trio, but in defernce to mama . . .
2“we ended up in a war that didn’t need fighting paid for by money we did have, ”
Think you mean money we didn’t have
3Yes, Perry is a crook. Anyone who answers to big oil, real estate and insurance only is bound to be corrupt.
In 2010 only 48% of registered Texans voted. 52% stayed home along with the 30% eligible who aren’t registered. That means that Perry received about 17% of the eligible vote and only 26% of the registered vote. Texans have only themselves to blame for allowing this crook to keep working to destroy democracy in Texas.
4Governot was a typo which pretty much sums up Perry’s administration.
5LOL great post, and unfortunately in spite of the great humor, so true.
People call Texans stupid for re-electing Perry, but they really aren’t stupid, they are brain-washed. What gets in the way of making an informed choice is their emotional loyalty to Party Brand. It’s like people who always drive a Chevy just because they have. It’s BLIND BRAND LOYALTY. “I always vote straight Republican. OR “I always vote straight Democrat.”
D-U-M-B! Stupid and self-destructive–REGARDLESS the party. I can name plenty of Corporate Centrist Democrats right along with Republicans who should be kicked out of any government office elected or appointed: You can start with Mark Pryor of Arkansas and add Max Baucus, Amy Klobuchar, Mary Landrieu, Claire McCaskill, Eric Holder and Tom Vilsack–and these are just a few from the top of my head.
It will be interesting to see what happens in 2014 and 2016 because politicians are sold to the public like products and brand loyalty is a huge factor in their marketing.
The Republican brand–whether true or not–once was clearly perceived by many to be the dignified, fiscally conservative party who stood for sensible government. Now however the party brand is increasingly seen as being led by a group of extremist nut cases who are tearing our government apart. The Koch brothers Tea Party is likely the best thing to have happened to the Democrats since Lyndon passed the Civil Rights act in 1964.
With all this talk of turning Texas Blue, some Democrats forget that Texas was once blue. From 1848 until Richard M. Nixon’s victory in 1972, Texas voted for the Democratic candidate for president in every election except for 3.
What changed things? The Civil Rights Act of 1964. Democrats also forget they were once home to the leadership (and supporters) of people like segregationist Democrat George Wallace and segregationist Democrat Orval Faubus who was elected governor of Arkansas as a “liberal democrat”. Faubus is the one who used the National Guard to keep African American children from going to Little Rock Scools.
6@ maryelle: When I saw your typo, I thought you meant it that way and that it should be the way he is style henceforth:
“Governot Rick Perry” has about the right ring to it, doesn’t it?
7Fixed it: Besides, it says, the state’s top three Republicans have everything under *their* control.
8I really like “Governot”. It’s so applicable!
9Looks like Paulken is embarrassed by this crook, too. He musta read Vern’s post.
