Saturday at the Beauty Salon
Customers,
We are closed today due to the pathetic fact that I have nothing better to do with my life than put on a Democratic workshop today. I will be in meetings all morning and then a workshop with the brightest minds across Texas all afternoon. Okay, maybe not all of Texas but at least 22 counties. Okay, so some of those counties have only one Democrat in them. But, that Democrat is gonna be there!
I’ll post pictures tonight so you can see that we are damn serious about turning Texas blue!
Feel free to talk amongst yourselves if anything fun happens at CPAC and I’ll get a friend to check in and approve comments every couple of hours.
Good luck and God bless your couageous mission. Meanwhile Ted McCarthy Cruz will be speaking at OPAC.
1I have a question and what better place to ask than a beauty salon. And I’m serious about this. Ted Cruz. He is just wasting precious time and oxygen. He’s obviously mentally unbalanced and should never have been the keys to an elected office. I know some of you out there are lawyers. Isn’t there something we can do to remove him?
2I’ll be out front at the Salon, serving free coffee and bagels. (I like bagels better than most doughnuts, and besides, virtual bagels are fat free.) The trouble with Cruz is he has so many supporters. No comment. Miz Juanita, I’m so dern proud of you for hauling all them Dems to one place at the same time. We’ll check in onct in awhile to see what mischief y’all can stir up.
3What I want to know is, how’d you GET hold of all those Dems and how’d you get them to show up on a Satiddy?
4What I want to know is this…. and I know somebody at the beauty shop has the answer.
How come is it…. that all I’ve seen, and read about for the last several days is the CPAC thing? Any, and all Republican politicians…. those who have run for office, those who are going to run (except Christ Christie) I think, show up … speechify… and the media covers every last minute.
Democrats have meetings, and it’s crickets.
Do we need to have an annual D-PAC thing…. or what? Daily Kos has that annual Netroot Nations thing, and some pretty prominent people show up and speechify…. and it’s crickets.
Somebody want to tell me again about that “Liberal Media Bias” that we all hear so much about. For this whole darned week, you wouldn’t know that there was a Democratic Party. Thing is, more than half the country has already said… “We don’t care”. You would think “the media” would notice.
Have a good Meeting JJ. And for heaven’s sake, when y’all are done… send somebody a press release.
5Re turning Texas blue: Nate Silver has some statistical
6projections which indicate that if you can get most of the eligible minority voters to actually turn out to vote, you stand a chance. See New York Times.
Fortunately, Miemaw, no one will be watching the CPAC…. just political junkies…. and all those Republican Conservative political junkies are all just salivating as I type this, watching Teddy Cruz introduce Sarah Palin. It’s a double barf bag.
Teddy is profusely emoting all over the stage about his Momma Grizzley. ‘Scuse me… I need to grab the barf bag again. AND NOooo….. “we don’t need anymore just like Ted Cruz sent to Washington”
7OMG…. more than I can take…. Sarah talking about her Christmas present from Todd…. “he’s got the rifle, I’ve got the rack”, then sipping on a double Big Gulp. It brought the house down. UGH UGH UGH
8Good news to help you get through the weekend. I went to the Battleground Texas meeting in Austin on Monday. I was happy to see that there was standing room only. All age groups were represented and there was a diverse group in the house. For a moment, I was 25 years old again and we were gathered to organize for anti-nukes and not invading El Salvador. I haven’t felt that optimism in a very long time. This weekend- turn off the teevee machine, send a blast of strength to JJ and her cause, and know that there are more good guys in this state than bad guys. One important thing Jeremy Bird said was: We can’t judge our strength by the 2014 election. We will make progress in 2014 but the fight will take longer than 2 years. I can handle that as long as I’m with a tribe of people who are determined to take our state back. The other good thing he said is that every nickle donated to Battleground Texas stays in Texas. So go to BattlegroundTexas.com and get your free bumpersticker so we can wave as we see each other.
9Well, I didn’t know that MRS. Phyllis Schlafley was still alive… and she did have a rather creeky walk to the CPAC podium…. but her drivel hasn’t changed one bit. That old goose hasn’t changed her message at all… still as scarey as ever. She was hardcore anti-establishment Republicans…. talked about all the wrong people the Republicans nominate… named names, like Dole, then nailed W. for outspending even Democrats. Witchy woman… even to Republicans. Had to laugh… except when she gushed over Ted Cruz, and how Conservatives need to send more like him to Washington. OMG.
10Miss Prissybritches, along with her political fortunes, Sarah’s rack is sagging as well.
11Here’s the deal. Texas has one of the lowest voter turnout percentages in the nation at 50.1% so that’s where we should be focusing our attention. An awful lot of Texans just don’t see how anything political actually affects them. I spend a lot of time talking to students about why “all government is local” and “how long until you’re voting age?”
12Absolutely right! Find some brave candidates and then get out the vote
13One among many reasons that Susan is the classy lady we know her to be.
14I’m here in DC, sipping coffee out of the “Turn Texas Blue” mug which that nice Glen Maxey sent me this week. 🙂
@Miemaw: There is so much coverage of CPAC because it is gosh-darn entertaining! Did you see the clip of the young racist who caused a near riot in the meeting of minority conservatives? They were talking about how to appeal to more minorities when this guy demanded to talk about the reinstallation of segregation! You just don’t get that kind of show from Progressives or Dems.
Trust me: the Establishment Rethugs are pounding down the Tums this weekend. All I’ll say to them is: Lie down with dogs . . .
15@BarbinDC – I thought I’d add a link to a write up about the CPAC segregation incident you mentioned. Their “Trump the Race Card” panel would have been worth $5 or $10 on Pay per View:

Well y’all, it was all-pope-all-the-time til the cardinals got their skirts together and elected one! And the lamestream news media can’t seen to multitask, so since the new has already worn off Francis, they have nothing left but CPAC. God forbid they go to the BBC and find out what’s going on in the real world already – Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, S.Africa. You know, places outside the -gasp- USofA?!
17Texas WILL be Blue, once again!!
18If you missed Sarah’s “speech” I can sum it up in two words: The first is BULL.
19It is for certain that if “stooooopid” was terminal, then palin or cruz wouldn’t be among the living.
20A couple years ago a jaded young Hispanic woman said she didn’t bother to vote. I said, Listen, if all the Hispanics had voted, we wouldn’t have Rick Perry for governor. She said, you know, that’s what my Mama said. Next time I saw her, she said “I registered to vote.” See, if everyone reading this talks a couple of women or Hispanics or whatevers to register to vote, it would add up. Find out who deputizes folks to register folks to vote and then go sign up. The training takes less than an hour and you’re set for a couple of years. Yeah, voter reg! Remember, its also linked to the redistricting mess. Make noise!
21Sam: I always thought it was one word. Effective, though, either way.
