And This Here Cowboy Says That Gun Violence Is Caused By Welfare Mothers

January 22, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Yes, he does.  Seriously.

Rep. James Lankford (R-OK), the fifth-ranking House Republican, laid the blame for gun violence at the feet of an unusual suspect: the children of “welfare moms” who commit fraud.

That’s a two-fer. You can blame women AND poor people all at once.

He claims that gun violence is cause by putting kids on psychiatric drugs to get more benefits. I knew they’d eventually get to blaming women even though it’s men doing the shooting.

Gun violence is caused by everything except guns.

  1. Seriously, somebody find that man’s meds and stuff him!

  2. Braxton Braggart says:

That’s a current meme among the gun fetishists, citing the use (confirmed or merely asserted) of psychiatric drugs by many rampage shooters. The gun fetishists take this correlation as evidence that those drugs cause the shootings.

I’m waiting for them to also explain that hypertension and cholesterol drugs cause heart attacks.

  3. Just as we now say “Nero fiddled while Rome burned,” I get the sad feeling that if things don’t change, people in the future will say “Politicians jabbered nonsense while Americans shot each other.”

He NEEDS to be on psychiatric drugs! Either that, or I do! Mercy!

    “Fifth-ranking.”

Well,he’s nuttier than Gohmert and three other guys. Quite an accomplishment, of sorts.

Wonder where the cut off-line’s gonna be for voting in New Mexico…

  6. Dear God, the republicans hate women, don’t they?
They regulate our medical procedures, deny women health care and now blame them for school shootings.
I know that some women abuse the disability system. I understand his concern.

But this man is an idiot. If these kids did not have access to guns in the first place, then they could not hurt or murder other adults and children.

  7. According to Mother Jones’ Mass Shooting data for the last 30 years in the US, 61 of the 62 shooters were male. 98.4% male, doesn’t that suggest something? Keep guns out of the hands of men! Barney Fife got one bullet from Andy, I think that would go a long way to fixing the problem….men only get one bullet!

Let talk through their a!! There is a lot more election to lose.

  9. I watched the video and read some of the comments. One person was from OK and embarrassed by him, another said they were from MN and had Bachman. I said, I am from Texas, enough said.

I went to Jacksonville this morning via Hwy 135 and there were homemade Burma Shave type signs that said. Obama has done more for Texas than Santa Anna. Succession Anyone? And once we got in to see the doctor, he told my sister he couldn’t leave her test results on her home phone thanks to Obama but he could leave them on her cell phone. Wasn’t the HIPAA act passed in 1996? East Texas….good grief….

  10. Oh.Dear.God. We have a critical shortage of stupid fumigant. They just keep crawling out of the woodwork. Or from under rocks.

He’s only the fifth-ranking House Republican? I’d say he’s much ranker than that.

  13. Corinne Sabo says:

I didn’t know por people could afford assault rifles. I can’t.

    13
  14. Most of the serial shooters have been from middle class families up. Haven’t heard of a shooter on welfare yet.

    14
  15. Does he think you can pick up an assault rifle with Food Stamps??

    15
  16. Bob Boland says:

Excuse me but some of you are making the totally unsupported assumption that these clowns can think.

    16
  17. Wasn’t the shooter in Newtown the son of very rich parents? And — oh,yeah, by the way — those anti-women speakers sound just like the Taliban, don’t they?

    17
  18. The 15 yo boy who shot his parents and several siblings in New Mexico this past weekend had a preacher for a father–who taught him to shoot.

I’m sure someone has it on a database somewhere: what percentage of mass shootings are done by children of welfare mothers? Let’s see–very high percentage male, high percentage white, and the ones I can think of right off had living parents (the shooter at Virginia Tech, for instance. The shooter at Newtown–parents separated but no welfare.) Amy Bishop, who shot fellow faculty, after killing her brother years before, grew up in relative affluence with both parents. This New Mexico kid. What about the kids at Columbine (I don’t remember family details) and the Aurora Colo. shooter? And the guy in the shopping mall?

Gang initiation murders might have a higher percentage of kids of welfare (or at least poor working single) mothers.

And what about all the killers who are legally adult? Gonna blame their mothers forever? Those men “going postal” were all full-grown.

I swear, these blond blue-eyed GOP boys make me sick. Blame video games, blame movies, blame mothers…blame anything but the obvious.

    Welfare mom did that?

I tell you I have three new rules for gun ownership. You can’t have one if:

    1) You don’t know, or don’t know how to find out, how to spell amendment. Too stupid.
    2) You accidentally shoot someone. Demonstrably unable to follow basic firearms safety protocol.
    3) You have testicles. Hooter-toters rarely shoot people.

    19
  20. Clearly women are to blame for all gun violence since all shooters have mothers. It’s just cause and effect.

    20
  21. scottybeamer says:

After those comments, I’m more convinced than ever that we did NOT evolve from apes…………Apes are not that stupid!

    21
  22. The things these people say remind me of the things alcoholics and other addicts say. The addiction takes over the thought processes to protect itself. Can’t we just declare them mentally impaired and unfit to engage in the national conversation?

    22
  23. It is always the same with these bible thumpers: Women, since Eve, are the cause of all evil.

    23
  24. If he’d just listen to the Austin Lounge Lizards he’d know it is those “Teenage Immigrant Welfare Mothers on Drugs”. He is From the ‘Shallow End of the Gene Pool’ for sure.

  25. buskyandme says:

@LynnN… “Clearly women are to blame for all gun violence since all shooters have mothers. It’s just cause and effect.”

Should we suggest to them that male gay couples are the solution? Then the kids wouldn’t have mothers!

    25
  26. It all goes back to Eve. Instead of offering Adam that apple she should have presented him with an AK-15 the way Jesus wanted her to.

  27. fenway fran says:

Our Tea Party/NRA Darling congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler alluded to the same thing at her ‘town hall’ the other week when she made a comment about ‘broken families’ and ‘single mothers’ in the same breath as causes of gun violence. This guy is not alone in his beliefs. Sorry to say, there are a lot more like him.
