Keep It Classy, GOP

January 08, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

DebraLee Hovey, Republican State Representative in Newtown, Conn. is such a charmer.

The Republican lawmaker who represents Newtown in the Connecticut House of Representatives had some less than cordial words for former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who came to meet with grieving families last Friday.

“Gabby Gifford (sic) stay out of my towns!!” DebraLee Hovey wrote in a now-deleted Facebook post, which she filed while on vacation in St. Pete Beach.

She later apologized (kinda) . It should be noted that Giffords met privately with family members. But,of course, Hovey’s snit was very public.

  1. YOUR towns?

    1
  2. And she gave the old “if I offended anyone” non-apology. Bless her heart, she really is a bit shy of class, manners, taste, good sense, and Christian charity.

  3. I am sure the NRA is very proud of her…. and a generous campaign donation will be made when the time comes.

  4. What the heck is a bitchy little middle school girl doing in Congress let alone in St. Petersburg, that den of Spring Break iniquity?

  5. People like her inspire me to contribute too. Gabby and Mark’s organization will definitely find donations from me.

Keep it up, dumb DebraLee. Every time you open your hateful mouth, it will be the sound of more money for gun control legislation.

I cannot believe anyone from Connecticut would say something so horrible after what those poor people have been through. I hope they dump her in the next election. She’s not worthy to represent them.

  6. Gabby Giffords, a survivor of one mass shooting in Arizona, comes to comfort the recent survivors of another mass shooting in Sandy Hook. She is there to offer them comfort, hope, and encouragement. And to let them know that it may be difficult at first, and for a while, but they can get through it like she did. Rep DebraLee Hovey sure knows how to put out the welcome mat. I guess her constituents know now how much help they can expect to get from her.

As soon as we know which Democrat is going to oppose DebraLee, let’s send a few Beauty Salon bucks to support them. The lack of class being sent forth from Florida (?) by DebraLee is more than those folks in her district should have to endure.

  8. Unbelievable! honestly! Some of the the behavior of Republicans and I swear the women are as bad as the men–especially when it comes to guns and dog whistle messages to shoot their opponents.

Remember Palin and her map of the USA where she used gun sights as markers on a USA map to pinpoint locations of Democrats up for election? Ironically, one of the people on her map was Gabriella Gifford.

On June 12, 2010, one of the events in Giffords district was this invitation from her Republican opponent: “Get on Target for Victory in November. Help remove Gabrielle Giffords from office. Shoot a fully automatic M16 with Jesse Kelly. Giffords was shot on January 8, 2011.

  9. I feel confident that the survivors and parents of the children appreciate receiving the attention of Gabby and her husband much more than they would hearing from DebraLee, who represents only a small portion of Newtown. Hopefully DebraLee wrote just what is needed to ruin her reelection.

Added proof that their are marginal legislative thinkers in every state. Michael Bachmann is still the #1 misfit.

  11. Good hens and chicks that woman is a moron! Why do the first thoughts and actions of republicans always have to be deleted, apologized for, or explained away? I say the twitter and Facebook should be taken away from them.

I trust the judgement of my teenaged nephew after a sugar binge, too many video games and no sleep with social media more than the gop’ers.

  12. OldMayfly says:

angela, oh I’m glad the GOPers have twitter and Facebook–and I’m sure The Daily Show and Stephen Colbert are glad, too.

Don’t be shy, hateful Right-Wingers! Go ahead and tell us all what you really think.

    12
  13. Two words for what she needs: B**** slap.

  14. VintageMomma says:

Jaw-dropping idiocy from a state rep. Texans can totally relate. Does she assume (and ya know making an assumption makes you the first 3 letters of the word) that she has a corner on the market of compassion? That grief care has territories? That she has a brain in her head?

    14
  15. I’ll also contribute to Gabby & Marks’s efforts.

  16. Don A in Pennsyltucky says:

She’s a Republican and people are surprised that she’s insensitive? She was just toeing the Grand Old Party line.

    16
  17. I wonder if she bothered to visit or even commiserate with the victims’ families after the shooting? Maybe Giffords, by visiting the families, showed Hovey how classless, pathetic, and apathetic she is and that’s why she lashed out (and she proved her own point by doing so).

    17
  18. Yes, bless her heart (a southern put-down), she is totally devoid of any qualities which would compel me to vote for her. After having read that, “My towns” comment, I put her in the same category as all of the other politicians who have nothing to contribute to their constituents. I would vote against her, next time around, on the basis of that comment alone.

    18
  19. One can only hope that Karma finds her fast.
