Slooooooow Thinkers

Good grief.  So are you trying to tell me that Peter King and Chris Christie are just now noticing that the political party they salute is a bunch of mean, uncaring, callous hacks who would sell their grandma for three minutes of airtime and an hour of power?

Peter King - Got a kink in his thinking mechanism

Did Peter and Chris harbor – and dock – under the misconception that their party defines “conservative” as John Boehner so elegantly put it, “go f*** yourself”?  That’s their Party philosophy in three words.

Peter King says he may join the Democratic Party.  I dunno.  Anybody who is that completely unaware of what their party stands for might not know that we favor the United part of the United States.

I have one thing to say to these guys – Honey, ya lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas.  You boys built this snake and then you want to holler when it bites you.

Thanks to Rick for the heads up.

  1. Somehow, it was locked into my pea brain, that the approval rating for the Republican House of Representatives was at 18%.

    Obviously, that’s old news.

The approval rating for the Republican House of Representatives is actually 12%.

And, from what I read…… and I apologize. I haven’t figured out how to copy and paste links with whatever browser it is that I currently have….

But from what I read on other websites…….. they (meaning Boehner et al) just don’t really give a damn.

I guess they have the same sentiments toward the whole country that he expressed to Harry Reid. We can all…… just…… go…… (you know.)

    1
  2. Well, duh! These guys weren’t so vocal when their party was screwing everybody else. And these guys are from solidly blue states. They can’t do a damn thing for the Republicans in congress. Republican formula for governing: Get elected and spend all your time, energy , and resources getting reelected. And if you can get just enough people in your district to secure your continued reelection, screw everybody else. BTW, hasn’t Boehner shown himself for the class act that he is? I had such high hopes for him what with him being the first orange elected to congress.

  3. As for Peter King and Chris Christie……

You would think…… that they would have gotten a clue….. from the way people in New Orleans were treated.

    Or, maybe not.

  4. Republicans in this part of the country are different than much of the rest. (Note that I can not speak for upstate NY GOP). The inheritance is Rockefeller not Goldwater, a significant difference.

If I was in NJ I doubt I would have voted for Christie, but I don’t think he is personally worse than Corzine. And this King is not the crazy Rep. King, he is Iowa.

    4
  5. No thanks—Peter King is a serious wingnut and would only lower democratic IQs if allowed to get too close. And even though he didn’t offer CC is fine where he is in the gop.

They are just po’d—now. In a few days Boehner will weep and blame the President for the mix up and all will be as it was.

    5
  6. “…this King is not the crazy Rep. King, he is Iowa.” I agree that Peter King isn’t as wacko as Steve King of Iowa, but there is sufficient info to make me believe he could never be a good Democrat. Just check into his Muslim demonization (is that a real word?) over the mosque in Lower Manhattan.

  7. Speaking of slow thinkers, the Rethugs have been waging a War on Women and were shocked, SHOCKED, I tell ya when we voting overwhelming for BO and the Dems. So, what is their strategy going forward? :

  10. Marge Wood says:

Hey, I like Chris Christie. And Peter King at least had the nerve to step outside the GOP safety zone. I thought that took a lot of courage. You know that the loyalty thing runs deep. Imagine if word got out that you were mad at the GOP. What if your favorite mechanic all of a sudden didn’t have time to fix your car because of your being mad at the GOP. Word gets around.

    10
  11. Uh, I know the Democratic party is a “big tent” party but based on their recent past positions, the tent is either not big enough or would have an annex.

    11
  12. @Jim in Laredo – best comment yet.

    12
  13. Their outrage is simply to appease their voters – they are tired of being called, written, stopped on the street with people they know they must “appear” to care about. Before Sandy they could pat them on the arm and ignore their needs 2 seconds later – now it’s non-stop and they are getting worried about their futures. Christie is prime example — he was a jerk before, he’s a jerk now and will continue that in the future – he is a bully.

I would like to believe Peter King (Steve King is better off in a padded room somewhere, he is too whacked for help) and other GOPers can change but once the money is funded and a disaster occurs elsewhere they will be standing by Eric Cantor insisting any emergency funding be offset by cuts to the middle class and poor as they have in the past.

I’m getting cynical in my old age but I wouldn’t trust these guys’ commitment to the good of the people for any length of time farther than I could throw Chris Christie. Let’s see Christie start undoing some of the damage he’s done to NJ and then maybe there’s been a conversion on the road to Damascus.

  18. As @Jim in Laredo says, it’s a feature, noted by Michael Moore in his book, “Stupid White Men.” In the chapter “The People’s Prayer,” he posits that “There’s nothing like your own shit to make you realize how much you stink.” He discusses how Reagan’s Alzheimer’s spurred Nancy (and some repugs) to support stem cell research, and how Dick Cheney halted any WH antigay initiatives because his daughter is a lesbian. “When it hits home, it’s very hard to keep acting like an asshole…. [T]he only hope we have in this country to bring aid to the sick, protection to the victims of discrimination, and a better life to those who suffer is to pray like crazy that those in power are afflicted with the worst possible diseases, tragedies, and circumstances in life. Because… as soon as it’s their ass on the line, we’re all on the way to being saved.”

    18
  19. It’s all fun and games for Christie and King until they got to be the ones on the receiving end of the meanness.

    19
  20. I think it’s displaced aggression, in this case. They just got beat up bad by the better opponent. So the next step is to go beat up on somebody weaker.

And there’s no way King wouldn’t be more of a liability than a plus. The crazy hate leaks out of his pores and eyes, right on camera. And the stoopid, it burns….

    20
  21. Olden Grey says:

    It’s all posturing.

    21
  22. Actually I think King has just reaffirmed his position as a true-blue Republican. He fervently believes that cutting government spending for programs that help people is absolutely wonderful right up till it takes a penny out of his own pocket.

It is going to be interesting watching the Repubs argue for cuts in SS and Medicare given that demographically Repub voters are more likely to be on those programs.

    it was gamey:

(CNN) – Republican Rep. Peter King of New York said Wednesday that House Speaker John Boehner has promised a vote Friday on $9 billion in disaster aid for Superstorm Sandy and then another vote on $51 billion in aid on January 15.

    23
  24. Marge Wood says:

Glad Boehner finally got a little bit smart. But a VOTE? Don’t he do no more than promise a vote? And y’all obviously know more about Christie and King than I do.

    24
  25. Ari Fleischer: “I increased donations to charity in 2012. This deal limits my deductions so I, & many others, will likely donate less in 2013.

Then: “For those having a fit re my charity tweet, when gvt reduces ppl’s take home pay, ppl have less $ to donate/spend. It’s math.”

  26. Bonehead got re-elected Speaker.

I can’t figure out the links thing. But I can do this:

    From MSNBC.com

“Experts say that because the ratings have been so poor for so long, members are no longer fazed by the public’s overall disapproval. They note that the lambasting of Congress as a whole has minimal effects on individual races, especially when candidates run against the status quo of the very body they’re trying to join.

Some 90 percent of lawmakers who ran for re-election in 2012 will be coming right back to Capitol Hill for the 113th Congress.”

Gerry mandering. The gift that keeps on giving.

    26
  27. In one of the video’s of Chris Christie speaking, he talks about how aid to victims of natural disasters should not be political. It is the responsibility of the government to help the victims. What is the difference between natural disasters and illness? Innocent people are afflicted with illness and it is a disaster for them also. What is the problem with the government stepping in with aid (insurance) in that case?

    27
  28. Christie and King are Rethugs from blue states. They want to keep their jobs, maybe move up, but they won’t be covering their mean streaks when the pressure is off. Dems and Progs need to remember how we got into this mess and aim our strategy at House races.

  30. Guess all the RWNJs forgot that mittless was all set to disband FEMA, and put disaster relief back on the states???
Now, they’re stuck with having to pay!!!

    30
  31. @Jo, I agree and don’t see the difference for the families and loved ones. I’ve always thought that the loss of one person, one house, or whatever, it just as devastating to their family and loved ones, as it is to all the families and loved ones over the loss of a number of people, etc.

    31
  32. Interesting that Christie is outraged at having aid held up for victims of Sandy but wasn’t feeling the same way about victims of Katrina. Guess it depends on whose ox is being gored.

    32
  33. I think Boehner was tired of keeping it all together for the last few days and couldn’t stand one more minute of Congress without a stiff drink. He just left to get a bottle. Ny and NJ be damned. We’ll worry about them tomorrow.

    33
  34. The most hated person in the NJ delegation(D or R) is Scott Garrett. Unfortuantely, he is the Rep in my district. He is not crazy–just pompous and MEAN. He not only voted against funding for Katrina, but plans to vote against any funding for Sandy.

    34
  35. TexasEllen says:

Scott Garrett sounds like a selfish sumbitch.
