Welcome to The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc.
My name is Susan DuQuesnay Bankston. I live in Richmond, Texas, in the heart of Tom DeLay's old district. It's nuttier than squirrel poop here.
I am honored and privileged to know Miss Juanita Jean Herownself, hairdresser extraordinary and political maven. Since she does not have time to fiddle with this internet stuff, I type her website for her and you can read it if you want to. If you don't, she truly does not give a big bear's butt.
A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.
This ain't a blog. Blogs are way too trendy for me. This is a professional political organization.
I love Texas. I love every gravel ravine, prickly pear, mesquite, and coyote on the place where I live, land my great-great grandfather homesteaded in 1835. What I hate are the low-life, small-minded, hateful bigots who have made this state a laughing stock. Let them find someplace else to go. We are keeping Texas right where it is in the USA.
1Maybe you guys could just draw a circle around the state government buildings and make that its own state.
2You know Glyn you are right. I do love this place even when I want to slap down the “low-life, small-minded, hateful bigots who have made this state a laughing stock.” It makes me get teary eyed to think of how much my “home” means to me. I’m sticking with the USA and I’m going to work actively to de-elect Rick Perry and his whole posse of shysters and crooks. Molly Ivans, Ann Richards, John Howard Griffin, John Henry Faulk and countless others would expect no less of me and all the rest of us who call this place home.
3I’ve done a lot of research on Sam Rayburn and Ima Hogg. We can’t let the Rethuglican swindlers dishonor so many good people who have come before, who are present with us now, and who will come after we are gone.
With grateful thanks to my beloved JJ who keeps the air condition turned on in a place for us to meet.
When I heard that there were some type of see-sech critter who wanted to carve TX up into about 5 pieces, I thought to myself, “self, they are not bright. not even a tiddly bit. hell, have they given a thought as to who gets the Alamo?”
4The name “Forget the Alamo” is particularly interesting when viewed in the light of the many Steven Seagal movies which, when shown on AMC, are dubbed so that he utters “Forget YOU!”
5I would miss being able to vist everyone–assuming the new Texas would put up a skywall and not let anyone’s thoughts out into the ether or their bodies go anywhere and if my grand daughter (19 months) and her parents move there–(x fingers for the JOB!) then I do not, repeat, am not, will not be, willing to jump the crazy hoops that the Texas ledge will put in place to let me come visit (Perry’s plans to increase the population–me smuggling birth control to my child–that under eye dark stuff that you have to use to disquise your face when you crawl under the barbed wire–doesn’t go well with my blonde hair or my pearls, for that matter) so send the 10,000 crazies away for an education –(not sure what to do with stupid)(FEMA camps–that would get them–sorry–conspiracies inside of conspiracies–giggle) and the rest of you come to the new housewarming outside of Dallas in the New Year-(-if he gets the job-) and then come spring, I’ll visit them again and see the infamous bluebonnets..otherwise, I’m afraid for them, as I am for any other young family that would be caught in Perry’s forced breeding programs…and all those unwanted children…
6Cindy D., Sam Rayburn’s statue is prominent here in Commerce, his Alma Mater when it was East Texas State. As an alumni, I’d like to learn more.
There’s also Cactus Jack Garner born not far away in Bogata (say Bo-GO-da) who got good and tired of being FDR’s Vice President. The problem might have been that he left lovely, fertile blackland Red River County for a much drier climate and that’s what spoiled him. Or that he gave up the Speaker of the House position to become “not worth a bucket of warm piss.”
There have been a bunch of interesting politicians here!
7I sure do miss reading Molly. I’m from the great state of Nebraska, home of Senator Exxon who made electricity possible throughout rural America with passage of the Rural Electrification Act in the 30’s. I as a young woman moved to a progressive Midwest state where I went to college while raising my kids until they were educated. Now I live in a bigoted backward state in the Deep South, and could just cry being such a duck out of water here. Reading JJ’s posts & your comments are the highlight of my day. 😉
8Oops.. I’m sorry, that was Senator Norris who was instrumental in passing the REA and funding it to pay for electricians to wire up the rural areas of the country. He was unique & a very independent Senator – a leader among progressives in the GOP. He also pushed states to convert to unicameral legislatures, but Nebraska is the only state that converted.

9Never understood why Texans, especially the big-hat blowhards, make such a big deal out of the Alamo. That’s where they all died, right? Seems like the blowhards would want to puff up a victory…. (Here in Maryland we talk about Fort McHenry and the Star-Spangled Banner that was Still There.)
10Hummm… in Nebraska, they talk about drought conditions & how to stop TransCanada from getting approval to build its KeystoneXL pipeline anywhere NEAR the Ogallala Aquifer, its only source of fresh water. To quote Rachel Maddow: “You can’t build water!” I think the US should get Canada to let us build a huge pipeline to bring down all that excess water from melting ice. Can someone tell me if salinization plants are hell on the environment like Canadian tar sands are?
11Julian Castro is Mayor of San Antonio. I think the Alamo is safe!
12Mom’s Hugs aka Eve, I lived in Omaha for over 30 years and was privileged to work with politicians like Bob Kerrey, Jim Exxon, Ed Zorinsky, and John Cavanaugh. Even Ben Nelson was a good governor. As Senator? Not so much. Nebraska’s legacy was destroyed by right wing religious fanatics who did battle beginning with shoving their beliefs down the throats of
13everybody else. By the time I left the state permanently in 2003, I knew it would never be home to me again. These “my way or the highway” Christians will be the death of our democracy unless we call them to account. I prefer to call them Christianists, because their behavior bears no resemblance to the Christian principles I was raised to practice
Down this way, we do remember the Alamo… that’s when General Santa Ana wiped out a nest of secessionists.
