And This is Why We Should Federalize Elections
Hey, they don’t even teach spelling at MIT.
A woman attempting to vote in West Boca Raton this morning was initially prohibited from entering the polling place because she was wearing a t-shirt with the letters MIT.
BocaNewsNow.com has heard from multiple sources that an election supervisor at the polling place ultimately realized that MIT stands for “Massachusetts Institute of Technology” — a school where students tend to know how to spell — and was not a campaign shirt for the Republican candidate, who spells his name MITT.
Good thing she wasn’t wearing a “I’m With Stupid” shirt because that’s a real Mitt Romney campaign shirt.
Thanks to Rick for the heads up.
She must never have heard that old joke about a young man with a car full of groceries trying to enter the 10 items or less aisle at the Cambridge grocery store. The checker told him you either went to MIT and you can’t read to Harvard and you can’t count.
1We should use mail in ballots. I’ve worked my last 14 hour voting marathon as an Alternate Judge. The paperwork has grown to the point where it takes almost two hours to close down the polls. I’m too damn old to do this anymore.
2Wait until next election when the GOP in this state will find a way, even if it means multiple extra “emergency” sessions, to require photo ID.

4There’s got to be a national standard. When I talked with friends yesterday who for whatever reason choose not to live in the Northwest about the time and hassle involved for them to vote it sounded borderline criminal. At the bare minimum polling stations need to be alotted by the number of registered voters.
Even easier was receiving my ballot a month ago and dropping it in a box at the local senior center at my leisure but I understand those who think there should be a major sacrifice for some people to vote.
5When Obama commented about the long lines some voters faced he added that we need to fix that. I suspect there will be some follow-through.
6reply to crone about the groceries– the guy must have been a repug because the rules don’t apply to them.
7Totally agree, Phoenix Justic, I hope it happens soon!
8my youngest child said she didn’t realize how worried she was, –we were all worried about Pennsylvania and Ohio, with the voting machine SNAFU–until it was over and she could breathe again—we were up at 1:30, East coast time, so excited and relieved…not gloating, angry at the waste of money, hoping that we can change the way and somehow heal the hatred, but breathing, OMG, breathing for the first time in ages–we have tons to do, all over our country, children of all colors are going to bed hungry, we need jobs, and so much to heal…I’m still in prayer for our President–there are to many wacko, angry people out there, but I am able to rest for a minute–We Won!!!
Brian, me too. I live in Washington State. Okay, maybe the rest of you think you might not like the weather, but, Lord, how I like the voting. Even before Washington went all mail voting, my husband and I always got absentee ballots. The Repuglicans just want to make it as hard to vote as possible, but the point here is that maybe when they say “No, you can’t,” it just strengthens the resolve of those people to vote, no matter how tough it is.
The Republicans lost. And that’s fair.
9Had to be Florida.
Folks who work elections there, don’t seem to be the brightest bulbs around.
BTW – did they ever figure out who won?
10@Miemaw – I don’t understand why Florida is always so screwed up when it comes to elections. You think after the international embarrassment of 2000 that they would get their crap together and do things right. In some ways, I don’t think they do.
11Y’all this is not just screwups it’s advanced cheating. I’m convinced. 2000, particularly, and 2004 did it for me on that!
