Here The Deal, Part Two
Okay, so the little Democratic club I belong to in Fort Bend County decided to raise the money to send the first ballot by mail requests to Democrats that had ever been sent.
Then blondie over here volunteers to be on the Ballot Board because no well – known Democrats have ever been on that board. I worked all day today and I will have to work all day tomorrow. Do you want to know why? A freekin’ record number of ballots by mail.
That is very cool.
So, I will try to break away on my breaks and at lunch and play here. But, feel free to chat amongst yourself.
I posted this on another thread but it is just to delightful not to note again. I believe we are making headway against Akin, they brought in Newt Gingrich to speak at his rally yesterday. I am thinking that this may be the very definition of desperate.

The local press did not even mention Gingrich – ouch (I wonder how much Akin had to pay him? We do have aTiffany’s in KC…..).
The GOP is dumping in over $700,000 in ads for this guy in the next 6 days – they are not telling anyone where they are getting the money from. Everyone on the right is pretending they do not suport this guy and all of them are slipping him money under the table. I know you Texans will be shocked to know that this marks another stunning reversal by Texas Sen. John Cornyn and other Senate GOP leaders.
1Good on you. Good ballot boards can have a dramatic effect on the quantity of accepted ballots (and bad boards can skew the direction those ballots lean–that’s why the R’s have always been extremely careful to fill up the BB’s where they have strong organizations). Typically, R-dominated boards accept outright any ballots they know came from R voters, and do their damnedest to kick out any ballot whose vote they can’t guarantee will go their way.
2I have mixed feelings about all the money pouring into various long-shot, radical right campaigns. If their candidates lose then it’s all gravy: good for the economy, plus it keeps that money from going to campaigns that have a chance. The scary part is that sometimes people like Akin win.
3Deb, here’s hoping this money bomb y’all are living thru has no effect other than to goose your economy. Otherwise, may they spend it all on lost causes.
First day on Ballot Board. Except for the silly person who didn’t sign their request or envelope, all of ours were good to count. Much opening of envelopes, extracting privacy envelopes, and recycling. Then opening batches of privacy envelopes, smoothing folds from ballots, and counting into batches of 100.
4Proud of you Miss JJ.
5Gold stars to those who got on the Ballot Boards and are keeping things fair and aboveboard.
6Good for you. I’m enjoying your site. I think I may have said that before.
