Oh Good Lord (And the Emphasis Here Is On Good and Lord)
Leakey, Texas is a beautiful little Texas Hill Country town. I’ve been there a time or three myself and enjoyed my visit. Not so much right now.
There’s a small church there, and I use the term church loosely, called The Church in the Valley and it is run by Pastor Ray Miller. Ray got a tad juiced up on the holy water and decided to use the church marque as a fist fight provoker. It doesn’t take much to provoke a fist fight in Leakey but calling a man a communist is a good starting point.
The Rev. Sam Hunnicut, pastor at nearby Hunt United Methodist Church, was not amused and pastored thusly, “it is my opinion that a sign of this nature, and the underlying theology which motivates it is perhaps not that dissimilar from Westboro Baptist; or any of a number of fundamentalist groups who have chosen to identify themselves as ‘Christian.'”
Hummm …
Thems fightin’ words because he said Baptist. So out crusades the local Baptist brethren …..
Mark Spaniel, pastor at First Baptist Church of Leakey, told The Christian Post that he has known the congregation of Church in the Valley and its head pastor Ray Miller for over two decades.
“They are among the best people and most conscientious believers I’ve ever known … Many will likely demonize him and his congregation because of the quote on the sign,” said Spaniel.
Okay, let’s take a thinkin’ break, Rev. Spaniel. Who exactly here is doing the demonizing? If calling a man a communist ain’t demonizing him, then you’ve been to way too many KKK meetings.
It is my belief that Rev. Ray Bob Miller knows for a dead solid hard down certain fact that President Barack Obama is not a communist. But, he had to use the “c” word because he couldn’t use the “n” word.

I have tweeted this out. I am going to let the good preacher KNOW that we are truly sick and tired of this garbage. Good Xtians, my big toe. Like saying Randall Terry is a good Xtian and Samuel L. Jackson is being tortured by this PIG and cannot sue under election rules. There should have to be TRUTH in elections.
1Isn’t there a law about tax exempt status and politicking at the pulpit? Surely this is the kind of thing that law is about. Send it to the IRS!

7There’s a huge yard sign that’s similar to this in Fredericksburg–except he left out the capitalist/communist part. This same house has had a sign with Obama’s picture and “Did you vote for Obama? Aren’t you ashamed? You should be!” in the yard for the whole four years since the last election. This “Mormon/Muslim” one supplanted the ubiquitous “Miss Us Yet” sign that was its companion.

8For even more fun, Tim Tebow has trademarked his Xtian nonsense – making money for Tebow, now is everyone supposed to pay this second stringer before they pray? They just never stop with the Xtian garbage.
They wear it draped all over themselves here in Tennessee as well. I’m disgusted.
9Apparently the IRS is ignoring this sort of thing, even the loudly-publicized “endorse-in” a bunch of rightwing churches had recently.
Keep up the pressure on them to enforce the law!
It’s not “government censorship of religion”– they can say any damfool thing they want, but if they get into government, they can’t expect to remain tax-exempt. That’s true of some groups I contribute to, and it bloody well is true of those who want to wave their religion too.

11Like most fungal things this will just grow exponentially – count on the idea that if Rmoney wins these types will feel embolden to “speak out” even more. After all, just who (tax man, media,old or new, etc) will ever go after them? I had once hoped this country could rise above this. Guess not.

If they lose their tax status the contributions are no longer deductible. Pretty sure that won’t happen, IRS is notoriously lazy on compliance and these people know that.
16The inate ability to yet devise even more outrageous “malarkey” to depict on signs in Texas doesn’t quite amaze me any longer. I saw a bumper sticker on a truck in town the other day that said “OBAMA IS THE ENEMY NOT AL QAEDA”. I guess that’s just one of those American Taliban driving that truck on his way to the local beer barn for another 30-pack.
17I went to the site Juanita Jean linked to above the sign photo. A number of commenters are saying that Obama is TOO a Muslim, though at least some others are trying to point out the truth.
I tried to leave a (polite, honestly) comment there about this church no longer being entitled to tax-exempt status, but you have to be a member of Facebook or Twitter to comment.

19That whole Victim thing that has become “Christianity” is just getting so tired – but boy, for a bunch of heathens, they certainly know how to play it. If the “Revenuers” come down on them, they are being persecuted “JUST LIKE SWEET JESUS” and even more Lost Victims will flock to them, finding solace in the company of “The Oppressed.”
20I often think we HAVE witnessed the coming of the Anti-Christ, and it is Modern day Religion. This twisting and turning of every little phrase in the Bible to be used for Power over others is Just disgusting and I have to say, I have hit my knees to pray for these lost souls more than once.
I am soo grateful for the Amazingly smart, Baptist Preacher who leads our flock at Antioch baptist church in Bedford Hills NY, the Rev. Dr Paul S Briggs….We are not Victims, we are taught to be the Hands and heart of God, to help the poor, the widowed, the Imprisoned….and to see God in the eyes of everyone we meet, and to meet their eyes without judgement but with Love…..Prolly a good think I won’t be venturing through Healey anytime soon…..
Ninth Commandment is what this guy broke: “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” Calling Obama a Muslim and a Communist is exactly that, and God will lay a whompin’ lick on this preacher that he won’t forget, come the day. (Hey, it’s in his own theology…”As ye judge, so shall ye be judged…”)
