Good Lord, We Just Didn’t Show Up

October 07, 2012 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

There’s a restaurant in Denver called Rosa Linda Mexican Cafe.  It is owned by a  Mormon family.  They are neither neither Democrat nor Republican, but they are American.

Mitt Romney’s campaign wanted to give an event at Rosa Linda’s but the owners said no. The son of the owner said …

“It was presented to us that (Romney) wanted to do a political stump here. (He wanted to) talk about our small business (and) because we share our religious views with the candidate and are Latinos it would be great for him to do a campaign stop,” Aguire said. “We did say ‘no’ because we are not Republicans, nor are we Democrats. We will welcome any sitting President of the United States. But, we did not want to be a campaign stop.”

I get that.

Republicans didn’t.

You know how we stopped buying food at Chick-Fil-A because they supported hate groups, which they quit doing because we quit eating there.

Well, Republicans don’t boycott.  They hate.  Deeply.

“Two people ordered $150 worth of food for lunch to be picked up today. They called later and said, ‘Oh, you’re the one who doesn’t want Romney in your business’ and they canceled their orders, even though the food had been prepared,” he told 7 NEWS.

“Since the Westword article came out, hate mail has been coming in from people across the country — people sending us death threats and people calling us telling us we are racist — that they hope we go out of business,” he said.

Republicans – you need to get over yourselves.  You do not have to act like a bunch of hooligans just because somebody says no to you.

I thought you people believed in free enterprise, freedom, and Sweet Jesus.

My mistake.

Thanks to Norma for the heads up.

Be social and share!

I’m gonna have to put $10 in an envelope and send it to him. These good folks feed thousands of people every Thanksgiving and are well respected in the community. It chaps my hide that jerks would threaten them and call in bogus orders to cost them money because they don’t want to be any candidate’s backdrop.

  2. “We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone”. This is America, they can do what they want. If someone doesn’t like it, they don’t have to go there.

    Kinda like I’m doing….I miss my chick fil a though….. 🙂

  3. I’m sure the childish jerks who cheated these fine people would leap up to say that it’s a free country and they don’t have to do anything they don’t want to do– emphasis on THEY, not that anyone else is supposed to get any of their freedom.

Wonder what the world would be like if everyone supposed to be adult would just grow up….

My $10 is right behind yours. How do you say bastards in Spanish?

  5. I have to wonder who blabbed to the press to cause them problems? Do y’all remember Obama stopping at the State Fair and buying beer, and then afterwards the republicans trying to stir up trouble? Did you see any Dems, Independents, Greens threatening to shred his tent? I didn’t think so.

It seems like all Republicans know how to do anymore hate. Why shouldn’t this family decide not to become part of a political campaign? I know I would not want to, regardless of who asked. And the owner did say they would welcome any sitting President and did not say what party they had to represent.

James, like you, I miss my chick full of hate, so I googled for knockoff recipes. Here’s a link to the one I think comes closest and it is not difficult to prepare.

  9. Actually I hear that Chick Fil A has announced they will no longer donate to anti-gay groups and issued a public statement about being inclusive, etc; at least that’s what I heard on WPRR’s show “Reality Check” that I listen to via podcast.

Count that one as a win, folks. I may actually eat there again.

  10. This should convince eventhe hold-outs that Repubs eat their own in public!

  11. Had the best fried chicken this past weekend. My hubby made some with buttermilk. We had the best pancakes yesterday with the leftover buttermilk.

Never was in a chick fil a and never will be.
If anybody wants the recipe for Joe’s chicken let me know!

  12. I saw this the other day on Raw Story – the restaurant has Gift Certificates. Many people are purchasing those and mailing them back because these lovely folks also do a Thanksgiving Dinner for the needy.

    Just sayin’.

Dimes to donuts this was leaked by the Romney campaign to get back at those good people. If “you’re either with us or against us” is Mitt’s theme we’ll be in for a hell (literally) of a time if he wins. The man is just a rich, entitled bully boy.

  14. Dan Cathy (Chick-fil-A) recently began saying he and his organization support “Biblical marriage”. I’m not sure he understands that concept and am pretty sure he doesn’t have enough wives to qualify.

If you haven’t had your laughter for the day, be sure to visit Betty Bowers, the World’s Best Christian, who will explain marriage for you. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=OFkeKKszXTw&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DOFkeKKszXTw

  15. I’ve eaten in this restaurant numerous times. It is in the neighborhood just west, across I-25 from downtown Denver, not far from Mile High Stadium. It was a very transitional neighborhood when they opened 20 years ago, that has improved substantially over the years with the influx of yuppies and urban-chic types who want to live close to Downtown Denver, but not in a high rise or the over-priced Victorians close to the Capitol…. Of course now, the old houses in that part of town are very expensive, too, but sadly, sometimes only as “scrapers”, with a condo development being put onto a lot with a shoehorn. Zero lot lines, underground parking garage. A friend of mine lives within walking distance of that restaurant; we laughingly referred to the neighborhood grocery store when they bought their home about 18 years ago as “the Scarey Safeway”… but a Whole Foods also was built a few years ago just down the street. Federico Pena lived in that neighborhood when he ran for State Rep, then Mayor. Pena was far from the only notable politician from what is referred to as “North Denver”….99% of whom were Democrats. It was initially a neighborhood of Italian immigrants, then primarily Hispanics…. and still is, but less so. It is all a function of real estate prices, historically. Now it is very diverse, with lots of upper income white folks who love that neighborhood, its lifestyle, despite battles with graffiti and now a medical marijuana shop on every corner. Parking on Bronco Game Days is simply gross, with neighborhood entrepreneurs charging $20 for people to park on their front yards…. (!) LOL

Denver’s Hispanic Chamber rocks, and many of their membership businesses are from that area. That restaurant was one of the first anchors in that neighborhood, frequented by business folks at lunch, at happy hour…neighbors at dinner. The owners never forgot the residents of their neighborhood, either. It historically has been a magnet for undocumented immigrants, although in many instances now, the undocumented folks are being priced out of the neighborhood. There are numerous Catholic Churches in the area, the political anchor being Our Lady of Guadaloupe Catholic Church. It has been an interesting dance to watch, to occasionally participate in over the years. I was a resident of Southeast Denver near the Tech Center; I liked living on my cul de sac with a two car garage and 2700 sq ft. of urban convenience…. having to deal with painting over graffiti and getting a car stolen from in front of your house, or enduring drug bust sirens at 3am, complete with gunfire… no, I wasn’t that tough. Karen was… and now her lot alone is worth 4 or 5 times what she paid for her house. But who cares? The reality for this restaurant is that their food is wonderful. They are strongly supported by a very diverse community, who wouldn’t care about them if their food sucked. Kudos for realizing they didn’t need to be used for propaganda purposes. The City and County of Denver is heavily Democratic, as is their neighborhood. In Colorado, you declare your party affiliation when you register to vote. Dems, Repubs, and Independents all hit around the 30% level, but Independents are the biggest group. The only benefit for declaring a preference is so you can participate in Caucus Night for the primaries. That’s why Colorado is a battleground state now. All 3 entities are roughly equal in registration statistics… Denver is very Democratic, the suburbs less so, the rural areas lean Republican. Then there is the People’s Republic of Boulder, Aspen, and labor union heavy Pueblo…. donut holes of blue state bliss.
