Rumor has it he paid a whopping 14% in 2012!

And thanks for the convention card 🙂

  2. I knew it was going to be bad, just watching the R primaries/debates. Huntsman was the only sane one and he got kicked aside early. The party has veered off so far to the crazy right that the candidate pool could only serve up a turd(sorry).
….and there it sits in the middle of the punchbowl.

  3. Evidently he finally released his 2011 tax papers but continues to refuse to show any more … hell, he’s gonna lose anyway, so why bother!! I’m thinking he just likes all the attention with people hounding him for more taxes, more … oh wait … that’s not right! More tax returns, more tax returns! I’ve always said that even negative attention may be better for some folks then positive attention … I think that works in Mitt’s case.

  4. I don’t car about 2011″s returns. He just had them prepared after the hounding – and no doubt cleaned up quite a bit from what he would have done normally. I want to see what was done prior – the last 6 years will be fine. Heck, even 2009.

  5. This better not be the short form. I want the long form. And I’ve already got my posse and Photoshop all fired up to take apart the layers on the PDF to see anything has been replaced or altered. I’m pretty sure Mitt’s accountant also did the returns for some gay taxpayers who died under mysterious circumstances, which leads to no other conclusion than…

  6. Rick I did hear that in 2011 he has “deferred” charity contributions so while he might pay 14% right now — as soon as November is over he will amend that to bring that rate down. As for 2011 — I want to see 2007, 2008 & 2009 – he won’t release because those will bear out Harry Reid’s statement and while he released 20+ years to McCain 2007 should show why Sister Sarah was picked as VP candidate. Up to that time he probably thought everyone would think he was just being smart and clever hiring a big time accounting firm to do his taxes — no H&R Block for him.

  7. JJ – you are so right, you know it is a bad day when….

Romney earned $6.8 million from capital gains and another $3.6 million in interest, according to his tax return. None of his income came from wages (capital gains are taxed at a substantially lower rate than wages and salaries for high-earners). Do we actually want a President who doesn’t work for a living? Oh yeah, we did that once, Bush. That turned out so well.

Romney and his wife, Ann, donated $4.02 million to charity in 2011, nearly 30 percent of their income, helping to reduce their tax obligation, the campaign said.

I also read that the Romneys only claimed a tax deduction for $2.25 million of those charitable contributions to engineer a higher tax rate than they otherwise would have paid. This move was to “conform” to the candidate’s statement in August that he paid a federal income tax rate of at least 13 percent of his income in each of the last 10 years. Rick you are so right, wait for the amended return followingthe election – Oh wait we won’t get to see that one will we?

One other thing, Campaign spokeswoman Michele Davis said in a statement that Romney “….was in the unique position of having made a commitment to the public that his tax rate would be above 13 percent. In order to be consistent with that statement, the Romneys limited their deduction of charitable contributions.”

I think it is important to note that most of the Romneys’ charitable contributions went to their own foundation, the Tyler Charitable Foundation — which contributed much of those contributions to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

  8. It just torches my socks no end that money from interest, dividends, capital gains and the like are taxed so much less the money earned by the sweat of one’s brow. And this is from somebody who’s living is made on just those things. The only jobs my husband and I have “created” are those we haven’t occuped our very own selves.

    8
  9. Making a “commitment to the public that his tax rate would be above 13 percent” only counts if he provides the tax returns as proof. Otherwise it’s just a twisty politician saying something self-serving.

    9
  10. I’d just like to see an accounting for Mitt’s expenses to the U.S. government. How much did the PBGC (Pension Benefit Guarantee Corp.) have to cough up after he raided those pensions? How much did the FDIC and the government lose in the bankruptcies? How much tax revenue was lost by laying off all those workers?

I’d bet that it isn’t nearly made up for by Mitt’s taxes. Even a 90% tax rate probably wouldn’t cover it.

  11. I keep hearing the Romney is in denial about his poor polling and says his campaign is doing fine. I do not believe it for one minute.
My take on it is that he knows, he does not care, he is counting on the voter suppression, also the millions of negative attacks we are going to see on the president & his money, I heard that he gave a massive bonus to all his
election team for getting him the nomination, but with a claw back clause if he does not get the presidency.
He is a ruthless businessman and is paying his way into the White House, he also appears to me to be lazy, he will let the peons do it for him.
