Yeah, Because God Is Mean as Hell
It is difficult to insult women, people with disabilities, God, and my intelligence all in one sentence, but if it can be done, you know that it’s going to be a Republican who can do it.
His name is Bob Marshall and he’s a Republican delegate from Virginia.
“The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children,” while speaking at a press conference about cutting funding for Planned Parenthood.
Okay, now I want you to read that sentence again and keep it tucked in your head because the next day, he sobered up and said this:
A story by Capital News Service regarding my remarks at a recent press conference opposing taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood conveyed the impression that I believe disabled children are a punishment for prior abortions.
No one who knows me or my record would imagine that I believe or intended to communicate such an offensive notion. I have devoted a generation of work to defending disabled and unwanted children, and have always maintained that they are special blessings to their parents.
So, what’s the deal, Bob? You were speaking in tongues the day before because, Dude, that’s exactly what you said.
I’m laughing, but the last I heard, God is royally pissed off and she’s not speaking to you.
Thanks to Stephen for the heads up.
If not speaking now, she(God) has said plenty to him he is just too d*&% to listen.
Bob just needs to learn the first Rule of Holes- when you realize you are digging yourself into a hole, stop digging.
1Bob,
Not only do they forget the first rule of holes but they break out the power shovel
2Are they deliberatly trying to piss (sorry Momma) everybody off? because the list of who they left out gets shorter and shorter.
3Why, thank you, sir! I knew my body was a mysterious and holy temple before you decided to enlighten me. Oh, and by the way, I just conferred with God. She says, ” You boys need to take care of your own bodies and leave the women alone. We’ve got this reproduction thing covered.”
4There are no words . . . .
5“I’m sorry I got caught but I got my message through to the mean-spirited bigots I pander to” is a more accurate representation of his apology.
6Yes, yes, I know, he tried to walk this back when sane people told him that they would neither give him money nor vote for anyone who was this bat-shit crazy. Robert was absolutely correct, about his less than an apology, apology.
Ya’ll do know the difference between, “I am sorry, I am an idiot.” and “I am sorry I got caught!” don’t you? Let’s just hope the voters of Virginia do.
7What ole Bob said was as plain as the ugly on his face. That was no misspeak or gaffe; he said it because it sounded good to him and he thought his fellow stupid Repukes would believe it. I’m sure he also told them what a good Christian he is.
8I understand Todd Akin has sent him a thank you letter.
Just kidding…….
9Well, at least this one time we can agree with Santorum: “The smart people will never be on our side”.
DUH~
10Sure looks like those folks in Virginia elected the village idiot.
11So Akin’s magic uterus–you know, the one that shuts down and prevents pregnancy after “legitimate” rapes–can also judge and pronounce sentence on an abortion-having woman by mutilating her next born? That’s one mean and clever uterus. Oddly, these guys seem to think that women’s uteruses are more intelligent than women’s brains since they don’t think women are fit to make important personal decisions about child bearing.
12If Republicans spent a little more time on candidate IQ, they could spend a lot less time on voter ID.
13I know 3 women who have had abortions due to fetus anomalies that were incompatible with life. All 3 went on to have healthy, beautiful children.
I know 2 women who had abortions due to tubal pregnancies and they too were blessed with children.
I am sick of these republican men making up ‘facts’ to fit their agenda.
14They really are the party of the stupid.
Even the best teachers I know can’t fix stupid.
I sent this to my Facebook page in the hopes that some of the Republican women will take the time and energy to read it. But they probably won’t … sad, so sad, indeed!
15He speaks to those that hear… And they love this slut-shaming.
Also, they believe this to be a winning strategy and since he is in Virginia, there are a large percentage of women who will vote for him because their power is tied into the Patriarchy. Which Bob Marshall represents…
16He also uses bad grammar.
17Hey Bob: Have you noticed that the number of children born with handicaps to working mothers has increased exponentially since the 1980’s? Try that one out next and see how it flies.
18Just another Red Flag for the folks who are thinking about Not Voting or voting Republican
19OK, that’s it. I am so mad, I can’t see straight. My husband and I were foster parents for 7 years and, during that time, we had 15 babies who were NOT “blessings to their parents” as Blankety-Blank Bob says. They were PREY – sexual, emotional, physical – to their (biological) parents. This knuckle-dragger doesn’t know anything about unwanted children. And another thing – the next time somebody challenges me about being pro-choice, I’m going to ask this person how many of these “unwanted” children he or she has adopted. How many? None? OK, then shut the hell up. We have adopted 2 precious little girls, one of whom has a significant developmental delay. She lights up a room, let me tell ya.
20If what he says is true, then that explains why he’s mentally handicapped.
21Vintage Momma, I second your anger and disgust. These dim bulbs attempting to practice medicine and genetics without a glimmer or a clue make me furious. All their pronunciations have no regard for real people, only their own self promotion. GRRRR
22VintageMomma, I hope God blesses you richly. Repugs want to control women, but what do they care about children?!? And the answer is: They don’t give a damn. VOTE AND GET EVERYONE TO VOTE.
23Rick @13
Love the statement. Would make a great sound bite.
I’m gonna steal it for a signature line.
24Is this guy a second-born, after abortion kid himself? Looks a like there’s evidence of birth defect in his pic. Mayhaps, he speaks from experience?!
25VintageMomma,may there be massive truckoads of blessings coming your family’s way. You’re my kinda gal, the one who walks her talk.
26@ VintageMomma. The special children truely are special. Their innocence, trust and joy of life are examples of God’s grace. We should all be so lucky to see life though their eyes. No hate, no wars, no judgements. Only life, love and laughter. Oh, there are challenges, but nothing that surpasses the gifts these children bring us.
And there’s this: You’ve been given a gift that people like Liz Cheney could never appreciate – the ability to live God’s grace daily. You get to focus on love and life while she focuses on hate & wars. I say you got the better deal.
Thank you for what you do. These special little angels are very lucky you have so much love to share.
Best,
27Lorraine in Spring
VintageMomma. If I didn’t think too many of these anti-choice people were mean as snakes anyway, and esp. if we ever get uterine transplants worked out, I’d force them to be paired with women who want an abortion–either you take this little clump of cells into your own body, right this minute, or you shut up and let this woman alone. Bet that would slow down the “God’s blessing” thing in a New York minute.
I long for the day when men can have transplanted uteruses and be made pregnant. I’ll buy the popcorn for the ensuing performances.
28Elizabeth Moon, my late momma (no fan of abortion herself) used to talk about what would happen if someday doctors figured out how to transplant a human embryo from one woman to another. Then all those anti-abortion people would have to put up or shut up, she said.
Momma had her issues, but God love her, she respected people who walked their talk. I’ll bring salt for that popcorn.
29Thank you for the kind words and solidarity with these Little Ones who have no voice in laws and public policies which directly affect them. All children have nightmares. Some children LIVE them.
