Headed Home

September 07, 2012 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I’m spending the night in Tennessee tonight and tomorrow night I’ll spend the night on the other side of Tennessee.

However, I want to show you something. Look right here.. This is the most perfect set of pictures from the convention that I’ve seen.

Picture # 20 and # 21 are of the Texas delegation. The “old man” is Glen Maxey, who occasionally posts here and is one of my most favorite Texas Democrats. Glen was our delegation goat herder. As the story explains, every email we got from Glen said, “No freekin’ big hats.”

So, a delegate from Houston named Mary Luckey who is totally adorable made these little hats for everyone.

Here’s mine.

Mary’s hats got national attention and Glen Maxey got called old. That, in my book, is a perfect day.

And, those of you who went to all the trouble to like Juanita Jean on Facebook now understand why I could not post from the convention floor after about 5:00. Every freekin body was attached to their cell phones and the Internet tubes got clogged up.

Be social and share!

She’s telling the truth. I had wifi on my tablet until about 5-6 pm. Then nothing. Except on Roll call night. Being A WA, we had wifi after about 11~ SO much catching up to do. I read M to F papers on the plane to Boston to see what the reaction was. When you’re IN it, you don’t get to know that! Wouldn’t trade a minute, and if I ever get to do it again, I’ll know some things I should do. Like getting a bigger suitcase to haul all the swag and signs home. PS Donkey made it fine to Boston.

  2. The WaPo had a picture of one of your delegates wearing that little bitty hat on top of his huge head. Unfortunately, I can’t find the picture to post here.

Still, looks like y’all had a mighty fine time!

Miss Juanita Jean, you take care going across TN. Watch out for the bears in East TN and the other stuff on the roads after you get out of the mountains. And, if you can find some cider in those mountain apple farms, take some home…it sure is tasty….

The offer for a stopover in Nashville still stands. If for no other reason than to get a load of the yard signs of our resident right wing nut three doors down.

I think he gets them made by a circa 1980s sign maker. “VOLUNTARY SUPPORT FOR A TYRANNICAL DICTATOR? BRILLANT!”

The misspelling is his. You’re probably FAMILAR with the type. He’s a GENUS.

Oh, and the best part is he’s had that sign in his yard for several months. We’re not going to tell him.

Y’all from central Texas/Austin area, there’s a photo among the long group of photos of Bruce Elfant and Elliott Naishtat standing on a street corner. There’s also a photo of Glenn Maxey who mandated NO FREAKIN’ BIG HATS to Texas delegates.

  7. I saw the photos that made it online earlier today. I called them Texas Fascinators.

Did you see any of those buttons the Tundra Turd mentioned? Something like “vote black and you’ll never go back”?

  9. Doesn’t Glenn Maxey realize that the tv networks don’t want to put relatively “normal” looking Democrats on camera? They want to show the folks who have the “big hats”.and may look kinda silly…… I looked, and looked, for even the “Texas” sign… never saw it.

I read on the intertubes this morning that someone has suggested a new Cabinet position to Obama. They think he should make Bill Clinton “The Secretary of Explaining Things”.
    They have my vote.

You guys, one and all, did a beautiful job.

Can’t wait to read all about it.

  11. Juanita,

Guess you got to experience the storms last night. One of the more amazing things I’ve seen these past 12 years living in Middle TN is the VAST number of trees that uproot each and every time we have a big thunderstorm. Dunno why, but I am always “shocked” the morning after. You undoubtedly saw this phenomenon on your drive back to Texas.

Glad you had SUPERB time. The photos on BuzzFeed are great – it looked like the fun we used to have on “Fair Day” when we got free tickets and a day off school to go “The Fair”. “Fair Day” is a Dallas (State Fair of Texas) thang and about the only time we ever got to ride the “City Bus” at all, much less with a bunch of schoolkids let loose all day with a couple of bucks for the Midway and Corndogs. Every October I still miss Big Tex. Anybody in the Metroplex this year during Fair time, please take photos, it should be fun with the election around the corner.

  12. One of my coworkers was a volunteer in charge of VIPs. I’m very jealous.

I like the ‘goat herder’ remark. Another expression I have heard lately that might apply to him is “aquatic waterfowl aligner”.

  14. OK tell us you are safely on the other side of TN. We worry, you know.

Donna, I am in Memphis getting ready to go dancin’ on Beale Street. Tomorrow is the Clinton Library and Monday is Texas. Then no vacation until Thanksgiving!

  16. I loved the Clinton Library. When I was there, they had a special Elvis exhibit. My kind of library.
