And the Nobel Prize for Medicine Goes To ….

August 19, 2012 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

The Republican Party doesn’t feel that they’ve spent enough time in women’s vaginas, so now comes some startling new information on the exact same scientific level as witch dunking.

Rep. Todd Akin, the Republican nominee for Senate in Missouri who is running against Sen. Claire McCaskill, justified his opposition to abortion rights even in case of rape with a claim that victims of “legitimate rape” have unnamed biological defenses that prevent pregnancy.

Republican Rep. Todd Akin. Never been raped.

I checked available records, and while I will freely admit that not all criminal records can be obtained online, but the best I can tell, Rep. Todd Akin has never been raped.  I could be wrong through, because he seems to knows just a tad too much about the secret functions of female anatomy. And he certainly is a little floozy-looking himself.

This bit of information could also be used in trials.  If a woman gets pregnant from the so-called rape, then she hasn’t been legitimately raped, you know, as opposed to illegitimately raped.

Just in case there were eyewitnesses and the rapist confesses and Akin’s biochemistry theory doesn’t work, then he has a Plan B.

Akin said that even in the worst-case scenario — when the supposed natural protections against unwanted pregnancy fail — abortion should still not be a legal option for the rape victim.

Because Todd Akin loves your uterus.

Thanks to Deb for the heads up.

  1. I’d file this under:
You Can’t Make This Stuff Up, But Republicans Can.
If he loses the election, he can always try his hand at writing scifi or horror movie scripts.

    1
  2. Lorraine in Spring says:

First of all, this idiot doesn’t understand that rape is about power, not sex.

Second, if someone tied him up, shoved a live mouse up his butt, and he couldn’t remove it himself, should he be allowed to go to a doctor and have it removed immediatly? Or should he have to wait 9 months to have it removed?

Good Grief. These people have no business appearing in public without a warning sign attached to their foreheads.

    2
  3. Armadillos can do that: turn off the development of a litter if she can’t find a proper den or the environment is wrong. She can turn it back on when circumstances right themselves.

But a traumatized woman? She surely would be, if it were a “real” rape. All those other women who cry rape must be lying.

I have never heard such misogynistic bull**** put out over the public airwaves. Senator McCaskell is all over this, I hope. And none of my many Missouri relatives would ever vote for such a flat-out creep as Akins.

    3
  4. Sam in Kyle says:

Put him in a cell with a biker so he can learn more about “legitimate rape” Those are two terms that should never be used together, kind of like GOP and decency.

    4
  5. So he can name the unnamed biological defenses, or will he just claim that rapists can [ ] ’em all and let God sort ’em out?

And to think he still has a big lead on our Republicrat female blue dog Claire McCaskill.

    5
  6. I heard the same sentiment 35 years ago in VT lege.

the guy speaking was a cattle inseminator and he said that cows don’t get pregnant unless they want to. (He never said if the cows told him this) and then he used that as an example for the reproduction in Women.

Also I went to a GYN in the 70s when my IUD was self expelling and he told me it was because I wanted to get pregnant, I told him as I was taking and had never stopped taking birth control pills when I had the IUD inserted and didn’t get off them until I was sure the IUD was working, his theory didn’t hold.

Bottom line is it wouldn’t suprise me if he did hear that from a Doctor, but somehow I doubt if it was from a woman doctor who was engaged in family planning for her own self.

this was in Vermont a pretty Progressive State but there are still some who abide by the myths.
A woman GYN was there and when they asked her why
young girls were getting pregnant she said they (the girls) didn’t know why she explained they were ignorant of the facts of life and myths, like “you don’t get pregnant the first time” and others like that.

BTW the lege didn’t fall for his argument. None the less don’t be suprised if people defend his position, I’m just sayin’.
Makes a good case for providing the right kind of sex education.

  7. Katherine Baldwin says:

He might want to review a couple of copies of Time magazine from the 90s when rape camps were set up during the war in Bosnia/Croatia/Yugoslavia etc. I seem to recall a lot of very unwanted pregnancies resulting from that.

    7
  8. I am so embarrassed by this man, and I use that term loosely. I am from Missouri and he is leading McCaskill in the polls, largely as a result of a multimillion dollar negative add campaign by the Koch brothers who hate Claire.

Last week, when giving an interview to Greg Knapp on KCMO, this moron stated that he would ban emergency contraception for rape victims because he “believes it is abortion,” and he would ban it for everyone, with no exceptions.

    Listen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=APzrcpetPSA

No school lunches for little kids, no sex offender registry, no emergency contraception for rape victims, anti medicare and social security – how in the heck dis this guy become a US Congress Varmint? As to his comments regarding legitimate rape – back in 1991, as a state legislator, Akin voted for an anti-marital-rape law, but only after questioning whether it might be misused “in a real messy divorce as a tool and a legal weapon to beat up on the husband,” according to a May 1 article that year in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

In the August 7th edition of the Washington Post, Greg Sargent noted that Akin isn’t just another republican, he is so extreme that he’s out of the mainstream GOP, and you have to ask yourself, just how nuts you have to be to be considered too extreme for the current GOP?

    8
  9. Are Republicans with this kind of view on women’s health issues just daring women in their state to vote for them?

    9
  10. I really wanted to ask the honorable congressman from Missouri how he arrived at his conclusion, but Mama would wash my mouth out with soap. Instead I just sent Claire McClaskell a donation at:

    http://clairemccaskill.com/

    10
  11. I’m sending a donation to Claire – hope you will too!

All i can think about today after reading this is a girl working in my college dining hall in 1957 who became pregnant by her father and had to return home because he threatened to kill her mother if she did not. I guess it wasn’t legitimate “rape” since it was her father.

Did this idiot say where this “shut down button is located”? We need to ensure that info is included sex education classes.

Let me guess. Aiken’s a Bible Thumper and Eve and her apple are the beginning of all sin in the world. All parsons wearing pants and long dress are the root of so much hate in this world, I would like to round them up and put them some place where they could preach their %^#*&! only to each other. I’m beginning to think that a Pussy Possee is just what we need to round ’em up.

I have 4 beautiful granddaughters. I’m stalled between crying and screaming – WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY COUNTRY? Have to go lie down now – just after I take my gun, go outside and shoot at the sky god.

    11
  12. @Deb, apparently, he is not extreme enough for the GOP because he sits on the Science and Technology Committee.

    12
  13. Women do have one power to protect against ‘legitimate rape’ by the misogynistic SOB’s. The can join together and vote them all out of office.

    13
  14. It is a (Republican) fact that women cannot get pregnant unless you buy them flowers and chocolates first.

    14
  15. TexasEllen says:

Somebody needs to slap “Pro-Rape” on every one of his stupid campaign signs. I need to send Claire some money.

    15
  16. When one of these idiots says this crap what comes to mind is that he hates women, resents the hell out of them having any rights because no caring human would inflict on someone having to relive a rape every day for nine months. Then again Missouri is on my list right now having followed one up back country to Ramona with him flicking his cig. out his window. Then when I get to a place that I can pull up and talk to him he blows me off with that hand waving, don’t be a silly woman, nothing’s going to happen. I should have told him to go back and burn his own state down and then called 911 and let the sheriffs deal with him but his stupidity just boggled my mind.

    17
  17. Unfortunately, I’m old enough to remember the myth this springs out of.

Some ignoramuses still believe the woman can’t get pregnant unless she has an orgasm. If she had an orgasm, she must have enjoyed it. If she enjoyed it – no rape.

Real schoolyard stuff, right up there with all the other weird stories small boys tell each other. Some kids even hear it from their fathers and pass it along.

This is what happens when you take sex ed and science out of the classroom. I’ve stopped wondering WTH they’re thinking. They’re not. They’re against thinkin’ on general principles. It might lead to knowledge that makes them uncomfortable.

And that’s the real sin. Far better that some poor woman bear her rapist’s baby, than that they should be uncomfortable.

    18
  18. Ok, this one was the tipping point. I have stopped entertaining any validity to the mindset that says it’s ok to legislate our bodies. That’s it. No more negotiating, no more compromises. This one has sent me straight over the edge.

    19
  19. I knew it!! Ole Parson Huckabee is supporting him.
Now Aiken says he “misspoke”. I’d like to poke him in his essentials. Believe me I wouldn’t miss.

Iris, I’m right behind you —over the edge. I’ve never been so pissed off.(sorry Mama)

    20
  20. June Bug and Iris, I’m right there with you. I just thought I was a non-violent person. Stuff like this has making me realize maybe I’m not as against violence as I thought.

Is there not one reputable medical school in Missouri willing to stand up and say this is a lie? Is there not one reputable medical school in all of the US of A willing to refute all these RWNJ spewings? Are they afraid of losing their funding?

Not content with running and ducking for cover, Akin tried to clarify his remarks in a Facebook post and only succeeded in pouring more gasoline on his own bonfire.

    Inside Todd Akin’s fantasy world:

“..but once we pass this here personhood amendment, any woman exercising her secret superpower to rid herself of a rapist’s get will ALSO be charged with murder.”

    23
  23. Now that the Rmoney/Ryan figureheads have spoken, I think I understand why this awful bonehead was encouraged to say what he said. Does anyone else remember the old western movies? The good guys are under siege, but the bad guys are all hiding behind rocks: so one of the good guys puts a hat on the end of a stick and inches it up into view. POW! Hole in hat, and now we know where to shoot. I think Mr. Akin and his insane statement are the hat on the stick. Those who hate misogyny are wasting ammunition on him, while the crazies who lust after the White House are looking at where our guns are.

    24
  24. Lets take another instance, if someone is shot and killed by a gun then they had lost the “will to live” and therefore it is a suicide.
I don’t know where the legit part comes in here, but clearly no one should be excecuted (again only those who lose the will to live will die) ever again for murder.

    25
  25. daChipster says:

dayumm, grammy97 – that was some trenchant political analysis! The lesson is clear for all of us: keep your powder dry and your eyes on the prize!

    26
  26. As we used to say, when I did clinic defense in the 80’s and 90’s “he need’s of a ‘back alley vasectomy’.”

    27
  27. daChipster says:

Also, I have a question for all you ladies: what other secret super-powers are you keeping hidden from us? Do you have a stupid ray? I’ll bet you have a stupid ray. It seems like the women in his life have been using it on ol’ Todd: deeply, intensely, repeatedly.

How an anti-coherence force field? It seems like, whenever I get around y’all, I lose the ability to speak coherently. There’s a million smart, suave things I can say, but they all come out like lumpy verbal porridge. And the force field intensifies when you’re in groups. It’s why we threw rocks at you in 2nd grade. Because “I like you,” couldn’t get past the force field.

Clearly, we are the weaker sex, we men. Women are beautiful, desirable, mysterious, powerful…in a word: awe-inspring! Whole persons come out from inside them. They bleed for a week each month and only get stronger. They can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, and never never never never let me forget I’m a man.

Secure in my own manhood, I love it! But there are guys like Todd who feel emasculated in the face of such awesome wonder. So they invent religions that equate women with chattel, starring a very male God who made these third class citizens just to wash man’s drawers.

I wake up each morning amazed and thankful y’all haven’t just brained us in our sleep.

    28
  28. Does this bring back memories of Clayton’s “just lay back and enjoy it” comment? It does to me but then again I am old enough to remember. ps. it didn’t end well for Clayton.

    29
  29. Y’all do what I did a while back..sign up for an automatic donation every month to Claire. This ain’t over yet and Claire’s gonna need all the help we can give her!

  30. gidget commando says:

Who knew my ladybits were so damned powerful? They can pull a righteous man’s Staff of Life right outta his pants and make it commit a felony against me (except if Akin et. al. declare it an “illegitimate” assault)! They can turn conception on and off at will! Whaddya know? I’m some kind of force of nature!

Then how come I’m not Angelina Jolie, making $10 mil a picture and going home to make more babies with Brad Pitt every night, if my ladyness is so damned powerful?

    31
  31. Elise Von Holden says:

The 10 year old who was raped by her relative according to addictive info on the 9 of August this month, must have wanted a baby to play with– too bad no one told her it would kill her..luckily (it being Kansas and all) a kindly doctor helped her, at the cost of her license to practice medicine…I am seriously tired of this, thank goodness with a medical degree we can be welcome in another country–because it may get that bad…

  32. aggieland liz says:

@ Iris, I have just joined you. No man is going to tell me what decision I am going to make about the care of this incredibly wonderful machine I inhabit. If he is a DOCTOR I may ask him for his recommendation, provided I trust him enough.

Priests and politicians need no longer apply. I’ll take my chances with God when I meet Her/Him/FSM!

    33
  33. @daChipster: Speaking for myself, I don’t want super powers over you men. I don’t have a stupid ray or any other sort of ray. I don’t want you throwing rocks at me because you get all tongue-tied. I am beyond tired of the body check look and accompanying remarks. Hopefully, you can understand that this is a male problem. All I want is to be treated like a full-fledged human being. You know, one that isn’t subject to legislation over her body.

    34
  34. It appears that Akin is drawing fire from his own team: http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/08/19/712151/growing-number-of-conservative-call-on-akin-to-withdraw-after-legitimate-rape-comments/

Skim over the comments if you have time.

    35
  35. Rep. Akin is so weak-brained he could not even remember the name of the pro-life community’s excuse for trying to outlaw abortion for rape victims: “stress hormones.” I have heard pro-life people talk about this on numerous occasions over the last couple of decades.

    36
  36. Uncle Dave says:

Do you suppose that if Akin were raped he would not have to worry about getting AIDs so long as the rape was legitimate?

    37
  37. Big Bad John Cornyn and Karl Rove are pulling the funding for this idiot. Akin has until 5 tomorrow to withdraw and the GOP can replace him with a less insane candidate but risk pissing off Tony Perkins and the right wing nut cases who make up the base.

I expect this idot will drop out just before the deadline
