Ariiiiii-zona, Where The Wind Comes Sweeping Through Their Brain
Arizona wants to replace the Supreme Court with …. you got it, Arizona!
A guy in Arizona collected 320,000 signatures on a petition to …..
… allow Arizonans “to reject any federal action that they determine violates the United States Constitution.”
That could occur through a vote of the state House and Senate with consent of the governor.
But that also could occur through a popular vote on a ballot measure, effectively allowing voters to decide which federal laws they feel infringe on Arizona’s rights as a sovereign state.
Now, if I were to make a list of places on earth where I believe they were educationally, emotionally, and stable enough to interpret and uphold the United States Constitution, Arizona would come after Cuba but a little above Iran. Just a little.
Y’all, Arizona is proof of what happens when you spent too much time in the sun.
Thanks to Ralph for the heads-up.
Can’t we just let Arizona secede? Then, when they inbreed themselves to death, we can use the state as a toxic waste dump. Or a giant retirement community for ex-TeaPub Congresscritters, their lobbyists and staff. Same difference.
1Rather then allow Arizona to secede, I think it would be in the best interest of everyone to slap an eviction notice on Jan Brewer and anyone else who believes they are in a position of power and the entire State of Arizona and, if there is to be a fence built, it should be built high and strong and complete with razor-wire so as to keep the “inmates” inside! Arizona is definitely the lunatic fringe along with some of the Southern states who are doing dispicable things!!
2I really had no idea that some in AZ are so bat sh*t crazy! Have only driven through there on my way to someplace else. Old nemesis moved there and I can’t help but think, ahhhh so! Priceless.
3I thought we worked this out back in 1865?
4Here’s an idea, maybe one whose time has come, concerning readin’ and interpretin’ the Constitution, We get the Prex to appoint, til they die mindja, a whole herd of attorneys, to read and interpret the Constitution for us. Sorta like outsourcin’. OK and the Senate (or House a Lords, if you prefer), can sorta agree or disagree on each appointment. Probably need to appoint an odd number so there will always be a majority. Maybe 7 or even 11. OK 9. Then make one ovem a sorta foreman.
Oh never midn. Probably wouldnt work anyways.
5As a second generation Zonie – transplanted thankfully to NM, it breaks my heart to see what has happened to where I grew up. Aren’t there any old abandoned oil rigs that we could use to help these idiots form their own insane countries and leave ours alone? They don’t call the AZ Legislature the 90 Wizards for nothing.
6First, Mike, get some rest and let that last gallon of beer wear off. calm down. then write it again!!!
the people of arizona are bat shite crazy as a group, but some of us are not.
rather than letting az seceede, i prefer partition. let us progressives have the eastern half and the BSCs have the western half. make that a toxic dump. And the east can write a law that no govt/military/congresseional retirees can settle here. It would at the very least guarantee that the democratic candidate for president will get half of the former Arizona’s electorial votes.
7oh, and e/w partition of arizona will leave the BSC polygamists in the western part of the state where the BSC’s can worry about their sex lives while East Arizona gets on with rebuilding the economy. We still have a courthouse and govt buildings in Tombstone and Bisbee and they haven’t been sold yet.
8Okay, everybody! hold on to your hats, because this Arizonan is about to rant! I am sick and tired of everybody assuming that the entire state is bat guano crazy, because of the current crop of loonies who are badly running things. There are many of us sane folks who live here and we are working our butts off to change things. We have an awesome candidate to take the Senate seat being vacated by Jon (“that is not a factual statement”) Kyl, a former Surgeon General appointed by Bush, who resigned and testified before the House how the administration was demanding that he restrict his mission to conform to political and ideological norms of the Administration. He is currently in a statistical tie with the presumptive GOP candidate, Jeff Flake. We received a new Congressional District (District 9) which is heavily Democratic. We have a strong grass roots group and we are bound and determined to get out the vote…all of it!
9In short, we may be collectively a crazy group, but like in Texas, we have many folks out there just itching to make changes and smack down the less rational citizens in the state. Do us a favor and cut us a little slack here, will you?
Ouch! It hurts but I’m laughing. Living in Arizona gives a whole new meaning to ‘foreign state’. We also have a measure to declare State sovereignty over our natural resources…you know like Grand Canyon National Park. What could possibly go wrong there. Oh, I know…the State would probably allow mining around the Canyon unlike that pesky Obama administration. Believe it or not, I don’t think either of these will pass. However, our capacity to embarrass ourselves seems endless so who knows.
10@Gramiam: Please continue to rant. Otherwise we will continue to have a lopsided view of your great state. Media only reports on what sells the most ads, so we need another viewpoint. Take all the slack you need, shug. Nothing fires up a base like whackadoodles across the aisle. I’m rooting for you.
11Gramiam, I hope there are a lot more like you there. You need all the reinforcements you can get.
12I know people in AZ who are not bat-guano crazy. However, they are outnumbered (at least at election time) by people who want either a la carte federal government, or secession. I am starting to think that the best approach is for people who are out of step with local values to move to another state. After 10-15 years of that, the states dominated by wackaloons will be bereft of modern industry, since all of the creative people will have left. Then those wackaloon states will implode.
13yes, gramiam. and the new district 2 (formerly 8) put Gabbi Gifford’s right hand man into congress and we’ll return him in November.
I still like partition. it worked for Virginia…for a while anyway.
14OK, I have an idea (who doesn’t?)—I say we ship Gov Goodhair to Arizona to let him co-operate with Brewer as governor of the Republic of Arizona. Let them ignore the Supreme Court, Obamacare, etc and dream up their own system of governing and insurance and commerce and taxes and bidness. Invite all Arizonans (like Gramiam & Penelope) who have a better idea migrate to Texas, and encourage all the secession minded Texans move to AZ—and knock themselves out. A little musical chairs wouldn’t hurt a thing. Who would be in charge of progressive new Texas? I would nominate Julian Castro of San Antonio and let the rest of the details get worked out from there……just an idea.
15I spent a lot of time in Arizona as a kid (50s and 60s) and have warm and fuzzy feelings for things in my past. For instance I lived in Bisbee when it was about the size of Manchaca, Tex. (pop. 500 give or take). My first grade teacher Virginia Swenson, Mayor, Arizona is a saint. She is the reason I became a teacher. Virginia Harris, one of the first women lawyers in Arizona, helped my mother get a divorce from my abusive father. When I was a little girl, I asked my mother what people looked at when they ate breakfast if they didn’t look out and see mountains. My brother was born in Cottonwood. It was a step up from Mayor because it had a movie theater. It pains me to think about such a beautiful state having such kooks but hell, I live in Texas. I have no right to call any other state’s citizens anything but lucky not to live in Texas. In both places there are those of us working our hearts out and our butts off to make our place in these United States a better place to live. So Gramian, let’s drink a glass of wine and ask the good Lord to let people like JJ keep inspiring us to do good when it would be so much easier to climb into the bed and cover our heads up with a good quilt.
16MY BAD: It’s Mayer, not Mayor Arizona. It’s been a long time since I’ve been back.
17@penelope, “sober up” eh? Nahw I was aiming for sarcastic irony. or Ironic sarcasm.
I’m disappointed in Arizona for personal reasons. Until recently I saw Az as a retirement destination. Maybe, Lukeville for that quick fishing trip to Puerto Penasco, where a friend from work has retired. Or, maybe Kingman.
But not anymore. I’m too fat to goosestep, no matter how fast you play Deutschland über alles.
18Cindy, Cottonwood is the last place in Arizona we lived before returning to Texas 5 years ago. I loved it. The old movie theater stopped playing long ago, but Old Town (as opposed to the McDisneyfied expansion of town) is resurging nicely. I rode my horse right down the main street, where she was afraid of her reflection in the big windows; it was a back way to the trails along the Verde River. Three of my grown children and both my grandsons still live there, two in Show Low, where they call it “The Mountain.” I played music everywhere around there over several decades. Thinking about all those years, it’s hard to hear about how crazy it’s become. I got out just in time.
19@Gramiam, I hear ya!!! I live in the new CD9 and I am EXCITED to see what’s going on!! First LD18 recalled Pearce and LD25 doesn’t seem too keen on sending him back to the State Lege. We have Randy Parraz and CBA to bring attention to the lawlessness that is the MCSO and, hopefully, come November, we’ll have a new Sheriff in town (Stauffer). With Brewer unable to run for re-election in 2014, we’ll have another chance to bring the sanity back to this great state I’ve called home for the past 3 years. I fell in love with Arizona upon arrival, sight unseen. It’s just the BSC crew that has left me feeling out of sorts and adrift in a sea of bat guano. But as I’ve spent time out and about and reading alternative news sites, I’ve met more people like you & I (you know, sane!) than the BSC crew that run our state. There are many more people who are fed up with the Arizona Tealiban than there are supporters; we just need to get them fired up and registered to vote so we can take our state back!
Carmona 2012!!!
20This one goes further back than 1865 — all the way back to 1803 when Marbury v. Madison formed the basis of modern judicial review. This means that what Arizona is trying to do is one of those things which are prohibited to the states. But then, no one ever said Arizona was a place for sane people to live.
I believe it was Robert Earl Keen who wrote the epic couplet:
“I understand why lizards live in sunny Arizona,
21Why people do, and call it home, I’ll never understand.”
Why are we talking about people in Arizona being BSC when Texans keep exlecting Rick Perry?
22As long as the Arizona state legislators also require several years of Constitutional Law added to their high school curriculum, it shouldn’t be a problem. So that, you know, their citizens are properly educated to make these kind of decisions.
23I will survive the BSC contingent in Arizona as long as I can hop on a bus and ride past John McCain’s office and flip him off when the mood strikes me. LOL!
24Well, it’s good to know there really are some SANE Democrats in AZ.
Gramiam … you make me laugh … I don’t know you, but I can only imagine you giving the “bird” to John McCain’s office and hoping someone actually sees you doing so! I think that would be a total hoot!!!
25There is hope for arizona! Gabbi will be gov and we’ll turn out the vote for sanity!
Mike, don’t give up on retiring to AZ. The places you listed are not that great. Go for the mountains where it is cool and dry.
I love this state and i’ve lived in illinois, maine, virginia, germany, italy, and england.
there is sanity. the pool is widening. don’t give up hope.
26That hot sun really does bake brains.
27Why is it that the people who claim to be the most patriotic are working their butts off to dissolve the Union. Do they want us to be more like Europe?
28Next time I’ll take my digital camera, do a video and post it to YouTube. Problem is McCain just trashed Romney. I may have to give him a week off for good behavior. He said this of Mitt Romney.
” As the liberal Governor of Massachusetts, he raised taxes $750 billion. He is involved in a wholesale deception of voters. He has been entirely consistent. He has consistently taken two sides on every issue, sometimes more than two. So congratulations.”
