It’s Alabama, Y’all. What Did You Expect? A MENSA Meeting?
A herd of folks have sent me links this morning to a so-called “news” story about some white, toothless Alabama preachers holding a conference for whites only and burning a cross or some damn thing. In Alabama, that is not news. That’s Tuesday.
Residents in Guin, Alabama became outraged earlier this week after they noticed flyers posted around the town that read, “Annual Pastors Conference All White Christians Invited.” The groups Christian Identity Ministries and the Church of God’s Chosen told WIAT that they just didn’t have the “facilities” to accommodate non-whites.
“We’re seldom ever have been invited to black Muslim events and we never have been invited to NAACP events and we never have been invited to join Jewish synagogues events and stuff,” Christian Identity Ministries Pastor William J. Collier explained.
I read that a couple of times and have come to the conclusion that it’s not Seder dinner or Rosa Parks Day or “Yo, Cracker, We Have Guns, Too Black Panther Day” that they are upset about not getting an invitation to.
It’s the stuff.
Y’all are doing stuff and not inviting this fine fellow, who is touted as a member/preacher at the Church of God’s Chosen.
So, the next time you do some stuff, please make sure this guy gets invited.
He really wants to do some stuff.
And if the stuff included a haircut and a shower, I am certain that the hound dogs up under his porch would appreciate it.
Stuff could also include a toothbrush – oh, wait….too late.
1It is very simple, the location doesn’t have a 2nd latrine that can be for non-whites. Because this good ole boy requires facilities untainted by anything not bleached lily white.
2Maybe if the good “pastor” pulled off his pointy white hood and stopped sucking down fried things on sticks as he rides around with a donkey and possum, whooping out a rebel yell—somebody not his color or religion might invite him over for a salad and sweet tea . . . .
What?
Too twee?
3I’m sure that Sweet Baby Jesus loves this person as a Child of God, but I don’t know why.
4don’t forget that they’re having a sacred cross burning toward the end of the event. We wouldn’t want to miss that!
5So they are “seldom ever” invited? How often exactly is that? I’m not sure, but it does sound like more than once. So, did they accept? Did they enjoy it? Were they invited back? Inquiring minds need to know these things.
6Couldn’t we just get him a longer chain–his dogs must like him
7and just the sight of him has me scared–I promise not to come
to Alabama if he’ll stay there–I’ll send money to keep him fed and hosed down–my only cousin from that area comes to family gatherings with a pristine white collared shirt-no tie, that has embroidered flames of hell all up the back and sleeves–I make a point to stay far, far, away–that’s all I’m asking in return…
From my north east Texas vantage point..
1. It’s quite ok with me for commenters to heap humor or abuse on these people and their brethren. Their choice to return to about 1835 is theirs. I laugh at snakes when I see them too. But I never forget that snakes will always be snakes if I get too close. Reptiles out in the wild are the same.
2. News stories like this are the reason I never support one of my church’s mission trips behind the Cotton Curtain. Nothing has changed in my 58 years. I fully expect it never will.
8Nice of the “Preacher” to wear his best Klan logo hat for the picture.
9At least some residents were outraged by the flyers and the event.
So sad that any damn fool can call themselves a minister and preach hate from a base of inner hatred and lack of understanding of the faith they say they represent and want to spread.
These are dangerous fools.
10Give credit where credit is due. “The residents of Guin are outraged”. The mayor asked the police the pull down the flyers and involved the FBI and NAACP. He looked super upset about this during the interview. Maybe they are all putting up a good show for all of us but it seemed genuine.
11is star suggesting that he’s been hanging out where the kardasians get their poop chute bleached or something else? i’m confused.
12My great-grandfather was a staunch abolitionist and a soldier in the Grand Army of the Republic who was wounded at Chickamauga. He would never refer to this man, or any other of his ilk, as other than a “damned Rebel.” I think Gen. Winfield Scott was right: “Wayward sisters, depart in peace.” We would be better off without them.
13God’s Chosen? What on earth did he choose them for? Bad examples?
14Please don’t let this one incident become indicative of the state of Alabama. I was born and raised here and was always taught none of these prejudiced ideas you see on display. Certainly there are some ignorant people around in our state that display these terrible acts of stupidity. However, you see acts of that nature in every other state as well. Prejudice, stupidity, and discrimination (not to mention cleanliness) aren’t limited by geography.
15Those christian identity idiots are crazy and well-armed.
16This isn’t exactly relevant to the topic here, but I lived in Alabama for about 5 years – about 10 years ago. I knew a man who owned several fast food franchises, and his children worked for him at times. One day as he visited the store he asked about the customer traffic. They said it was OK, and that they had a bunch of hockey players come in. He was puzzled until they laughed and told him they must play hockey because they had so many teeth missing! Standard line in Alabama: Thank God for Mississippi!
17“Yes, we believe that the Europeans and their descendants are the chosen people of God,” according to the website for Christian Identity Ministries, which is holding the event with Church of God’s Chosen. “We believe this, not because we think that the white race is superior, but because there is overwhelming proof in support of this belief. We do not back down from this belief, because we are certain.”
Well, I’m certain you’re a flaming *******, and I’m not backing down from this belief. See, I didn’t actually cuss.
Long ago I accepted that there’s an overwhelming amount of evidence for evolution, but once in a while I come across something like this…. (“We are all descended from small worm-like creatures, but it shows more on some people.” — Will Cuppy)
18Sgt. Mike:
19Take a short drive North on 24, turn right, stop in just about any town between Paris and Texarkana.
That guy lives there!
Lady told my pregnant Filipino wife, “We don’t allow brown people to use our bathrooms, hon. You’ll haf to use the roadside park.”
The Southern Poverty Law Center has a “hate map” on their site that identifies hate groups all over the country by type. Check out your area, and you may be surprised (or not).

MCPO RET, sadly that may have been one of my paternal grand mother’s family. They distinguished themselves in such manner as well as other fields such as chicken theft, watermelon theft and line breeding. My dear wife had family in Lamar county as well. We are not proud.
That said, we travel US82 upon occasion cherrypicking our stops at different aging relatives. By doing so we can see the best of our families and ignore the rest.

OldMayFly, In my work life I do some gang intelligence analysis from time to time. At least one Texas jail considers some of the hate groups listed on SPLC’s site gangs for the purpose of housing segregation.
22Sgt. Mike, sounds practical to me. I guess a gang is to a hate group what a cult is to a church. When a cult gets enough members it is considered a church. When a gang gets enough members they order funny flags & stuff and print manifestos.
