Duck!
Okay, the Koch brothers, who have enough money to air condition hell but that don’t make them pretty, have made a pledge to personally donate to a Super Pac more money than John McCain spent on his entire campaign.
Republican super PACs and other outside groups shaped by a loose network of prominent conservatives – including Karl Rove, the Koch brothers and Tom Donohue of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce – plan to spend roughly $1 billion on November’s elections for the White House and control of Congress, according to officials familiar with the groups’ internal operations.
That total includes previously undisclosed plans for newly aggressive spending by the Koch brothers, who are steering funding to build sophisticated, county-by-county operations in key states. POLITICO has learned that Koch-related organizations plan to spend about $400 million ahead of the 2012 elections – twice what they had been expected to commit.
Nobody gives that kind of money expecting good government in return.
So, those friendly folks who gave you George W Bush are now trying to sell you Mitt Romney, a man who might be smarter than Bush but in a bad way.
It’s gonna get nasty. Karl Rove and his buddies can’t tell you what they really want to do with America because you’d run down the street screaming holy hell on a nickel cigar, so expect a campaign spent entirely on bashing President Barack Obama. They will invent four new boogie men, convince the entire trailer park that there’s monsters under their beds, and Photoshop pictures of Hitler and Stalin having gay hoochy koochy in the Lincoln bedroom.
Karl Rove and Grover Norquist are wicked. They once tried to sell some ideas to the nightmare machine, but got rejected for being too damn scary.
Thanks to David for the heads up.
At some point, isn’t it just going to be cheaper for them to pay the friggin taxes?!?!?
1I live in a mobilehome park aka “trailer park” and I’ll be voting … once again … for Barack Obama. I’m not a violent person and I usually do not wish harm on anyone … but something needs to be done about the Koch Bros., Karl Rove aka “Ham Rove” according to Stephen Colbert; and, yes, Grover Norquist is horribly evil … all of them are and I really hope and pray that even the idiot Republicans wake up and realize they are trying to buy this election and Washington! If the Democrats do not rally at the voting booths in November or make sure they mail in their ballots … we’ll all be in super deep, stinky poo-poo!
2@Wyatt_Earl: Here are a few better ideas: Use those millions to start new businesses, expand existing ones, or buy stocks that pay increasing dividends every year.
At least I think they are better ideas. But I agree with you.
3Dern, I think I know what happened! With all the evil people we have around, we’re not in the US of A; we’re in hell and didn’t even know we had died.
4I read recently that Rove’s outfit has the contact information for every Bible thumping church goer in the USA.
Is anybody else in Texas old enough to remember the Bill if rape is inevitable- John Hill governor’s race. Ol Karl got the thumpers all excited about some church home for errant kids in Corpus. The preacher thought beating kids was ok. John Hill said the Great State of Texas had a duty and a right to inspect church run schools. I think that is what defeated John Hill. The urban rumor mill and talk radio was stirred up for months. Get ready for all kinds of misinformation to be e-mailed out every day.
5We can’t get wingnuts to see sense. It is quite beyond them. Therefore, our best strategy is to appeal to those who do have sense and let them know how vital it is that they get out and vote. There are more of us than there are of the “low-information” voters, but it only counts if we get off our well-padded derrieres and VOTE.
6They are going to accidentally re-energize the economy that they have been sabotaging all this time.
7could not agree more Gramian…well said.
8With the Kochs, Adelstein et al throwing around such large amounts of cash to their “Boys,” looks like the President had it right “The Private Sector is doing just fine.” All those tax breaks during the Bush Years was just for this very moment, so they would have plenty of cash available to finish this country off.
9I suspect it takes a lot more that Rush’s “Mother’s Little Helpers” to get them to sleep at night.(Assuming they do sleep and don’t just take to ground.)
How to “buy” a country….. in one easy lesson.
Inherit lots of money from your daddy.
i.e. “Koch”……..”Romney”…….etc.
Maybe they think, with all the damage they are doing…. all the evil….. they can buy their way out of hell????
10Does anyone know who benefits from all this money spent? I don’t see any wardrobe upgrades over at FAUX! Methinks the bucks are either outsourced, or used for more tax writeoffs!
11Citizens United CAN be unraveled! Billboards! Yes billboards! If Dem PACs would post charts and graphs, like the “Bikini Graph”; Vulture Chart; and Presidential Spending Graph, along with the source, including a phrase like: “Explain This!”, Teabaggers would have to “think” while listening to Limbaugh! Post these beauties at all truck stops, church parking lots, and chicken coops (to ensure Repugs see them while engaging in “the Down Low”, or “Wide Stance”!). Mexico does this. Dems should try.
There needs to be an organized effort to publish and distribute the companies that Koch Bros control, or even own a tiny portion of…. and then we simply just stop buying their damned products. Eventually the market will turn around and bite them on their protuberant bellies and points south. Ditto for the casino empire in Vegas that Adelson owns… we just don’t go there… and the Hollywood entertainment crowd stops performing there… they can afford to wait for an opportunity to make big bucks at another casino, entertaining the masses. So whatever happened to principals?
I saw a piece recently on MSNBC about how Governor Chris Christy is a huge fan of The Boss… Bruce Springsteen. He is pleading with Springsteen to “please come to the grand opening of some new casino in Atlantic City, or come for Labor Day and do a big hometown boy concert.”
Springsteen won’t even remotely acknowledge Christy, speak to him, etc. The Governor, when he attends Springsteen’s concerts enters and leaves thru the same back entrance that The Boss uses, and Bruce won’t even go so far as to speak to the fat-assed Governor if they run into one another, nor shake his hand. He doesn’t exist in Bruce’s world.
It all has to do with the Governor’s positions on various issues, and in particular, the fact that Christy veto’d NJ’s gay marriage bill. If the Boss can do this in his home state, maybe it can serve as an example of the things other celebs can do in Vegas, and other places, and that we as consumers can also do.
Don’t put any more money in those assholes pockets for them to spend on wingnut politicians and their causes.
12from my heavily padded cell, uhh study, yeah that’s it “study” in north east Texas…
Got to agree with commenter 12. Not that I’m thinking boycott or such but at least knowing you just enriched the Kochs when you bought that roll of paper towels or banana would help you make purchases more in line with your politics than purchasing in blissful ignorance.
That said I suspect the money they spend once they get it from us consumers on their PACS and Institutes is the more influential spending. They spend their money with these think tanks in order to influence the thinking of the person on the street. Their logic is if they can convince me to buy a particular brand of ammunition or spring loaded pocket knife they can convince me to hate blacks, women, gays, babies, apple pie, etc. On me it rarely works, on others maybe so. In the now immoral words of Grover what’s-his-butt, let’s starve the beast.
