To Ron Paul, making people get a driver’s license is socialism.  Public education is socialism.  Inspecting food before putting it on the market is socialism because if enough people die from botulism, that company will go out of business and all the dead people just did their part to keep the free market functioning.  Public roads and parks are socialism.  The minimum wage is double socialism.   Suits that fit is socialism.  Inspecting nuclear facilities is socialism.  And damn Rick Perry is a socialist because he just wants to eliminate three departments of government, even if he can only remember two.

Ron Paul lives in the county next to mine and even represents part of my county in Congress.  Several years ago, one of his little consultants came up with a bright idea – they offered a free barbeque dinner to anyone who showed up to hear Ron Paul speak.  You had to sign in to get your dinner.  The next week, all of those people were listed in a brochure as “supporters” of Ron Paul.  I couldn’t help myself from publicly pointing out  that at least 4 of the names were convicted felons, and at least one was for child abuse.  That’s the cool thing about being a looneytarian – you don’t have to be bothered with details.

On the other hand, he may be a crotchety old man, but he can remember five things at once.  All of them are bad, of course, but it’s a start.
