Lawyer, Anyone?
David Shafer is the Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party. He tweets —
And which of Trump’s all-star writ twit buffet of great legal minds will handle this lawsuit?
So, you videotape me robbing a bank. I say you can’t turn the video over to the police because my lawyer was with me. That’s Trump Justice.
Anyone who has a conversation with Trump and doesn’t tape it should see a mental health professional.
As Trump Tweeted about it, did he waive any privilege? Plus, crime/fraud exception.
1Yes, they’re all shocked, shocked I tell you, that the call was recorded and leaked to the press. Which is worse: that the call was recorded or that Trump is fomenting a coup?
I long for the days when the GOP got their panties in a twist over Obama’s tan suit.
2Another perfect phone call!!
3Actually, if you listened to the call (with the very helpful Post transcript), you may remember some inconclusive exchanges about whether there was a consent decree (Trump) or a settlement agreement (Germany, I think said that).
So whatever it was, it cannot possibly have been a settlement discussion.
Shafer helpfully informed us that he is not a lawyer, but that was obvious anyway.
4I’m certainly no lawyer, but I understand that attorney client privilege doesn’t apply if you’re discussing committing an actual crime.
5lol fwiw Michael Cohen set the standard for dealing with the fu king moron – record everything he says.
6Some interesting discussions are going on about just who released the tape, with some good arguments that it was Trump himself. The Georgia GOP has far too much on its plate now with the run-off election, and are unlikely to garner any profit from this.
Trump, on the other hand, gets to continue to be an attention whore, and in his mind at least look like a victim. Plus he’s decided the Secretary of State and Governor of Georgia are his enemies and this will make them look bad – again, in his twisted warped mind.
As for the lawsuit claiming GA officials released the tape, that can be quietly dropped after the runoff and Biden’s inauguration.
The sad thing: even though this is a blatant attempt at coercion and an obvious violation of election law, his followers are probably thinking he’s right and that he won in Georgia and is a victim of massive vote fraud.
7I’m thinking that woman who listened in on the call with him will be looking for a new job soon.
8Has anyone noticed that some of the most repugnant repugnanticans are state party leaders, like this david shafer in GA and kelli ward in AZ?
9As for which attorney from the Trumpf stable of stable geniuses should argue for these new lawsuits, I’m thinking lin wood. He’s on top of his game right now. They’re getting so tired of winning.
She seems to be an ALEC activist whose pet peeve is repealing the 17th Amendment (direct election of senators). Her firm says she is not acting as a member of the firm but on her own.
She did conttadict Trump when he made an incorrect statement about what his lawyers had filed in court. So in the constellation of trump lawyers she seems to be the cream of the crop.
10El Jefe #5 – like you, I’m practicing law without a license here, but I also am assuming that committing a crime in front of your lawyer (or any lawyer), or colluding with him to commit one might be a crime. Of course I haven’t heard from some of our giant Texas legal minds, like Ted Cruz, so I might be wrong!
11The GOP has always considered “leak” to be worse than the crime committed by one of them. Remember how furious GWB was when the Abu Ghraib mess came to public knowledge? No regret that the torture was done by US troops, but enormous anger that it was “leaked.”
12I was pleasantly elucidated about music from a TV commercial: The Edith Piaf recording of “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien” (“No, I do not regret anything”)^. It was released in 1960, during the French-Algerian War. It was adopted as an anthem by the French military which failed at a putsch (1961) against De Gaulle and the civilian leadership of Algeria. The followers who were involved (not arrested like the officers) sang the song as they left their barracks to be reassigned.
For Cult 45, illegal actions to further their cause are features, not bugs…

And then there’s this:
https://www.sundaypost.com/fp/donald-trump-could-be-planning-turnberry-trip-as-scots-airport-told-to-expect-a-high-flyer-the-day-before-joe-bidens-inauguration/
Trying to escape from those pesky arrest warrants, much?
14tRump can run anywhere he wants just prior to the inaugural but he damn can’t hide. The charges and the legal papers will always be waiting. Plus we have extradition with some of the countries he just might try to use as a failsafe. I’m betting pocket lint that he does not know which is which and lands exactly where he can be arrested.
15maggie @ 15,
Maybe the pilot will do the ethical thing and make a U-turn to NYC. I can’t imagine that the abc agencies will let him leave. He knows too much and would gladly sell the info to the Russkies.
16Under Georgia law, anyone who is party to a conversation can record it without the consent of others. There are some exceptions for grand juries, certain legal matters, and so on. Suborning election fraud would not be one of them.
17Attorney Marc E. Elias has torped0ed David Shafer’s claim that the telephone call was a “confidential settlement discussion.”

18Papa@14: God, I hope Trump does fly to Scotland for the inauguration. And then Biden immediately orders the military plane back to the U.S. Let that alleged billionaire find his own transportation home.
Wasn’t there a replica of the Titanic being built, with the maiden voyage planned to follow the original’s route? I’d almost be willing to donate to a fund to buy Trump a ticket. In steerage, along with a bevy of mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, sweaty MAGATS. The kind of people Trump loves, but only at a distance.
19Marc Elias thoughtfully pointed out at the end of January 4:
Donald Trump/allies began the day 1-60 in court.
Donald Trump/allies ended the day 1-61 in court.
Georgia votes tomorrow for 2 Senate seats.
Joe Biden takes office in 16 days.
Goodnight.
20aklynne @ 8 That woman, Cleta Mitchell, has an unbelievable history, textbook case of ideological migration according to Eric Hoffer’s “The True Believer.”
And it seems her law partners are not pleased.

She is, unlike the rest, a real lawyer with talent an a track record.
Slightly OT, but one of the things that surprises me is that there has not been a boom in Eric Hoffer, given the True Believers have captured the GOP. But I have not seen even one reference to him in all the commentary I have consumed over the past 4 years.
