36 Hours Cold Turkey
I have decided not to play nice.
I had dinner last night with one of my favorite people for times like these and by the time we finished half the shrimp and crabs, we decided screw it, two more days of resting and healing up and then let’s do this thing.
Late last night, as I watching Goliath (which she semi-recommended) she texted me Michael Moore’s thing about what we need to do.
I texted back, “Let’s go burn something, dammit.”
“Ok,” she responded, “but not my bra. I need my bra.”
I am blessed to have a friend so grounded in reality.
At this point, I am mad at both political parties. I admit I am less mad at Democrats but not by much. Plus, I termed-out of the State Democratic Executive Committee so I don’t have to be loyal to them anymore. I’m gonna have plenty more to say about them once I heal up so prepare yourself for a hissy damn fit about Texas Democrats.
I’m headed to the beach to get sandy and wet. Gorgeous day on the Texas Gulf Coast.
I read that ‘Michael Moore thing’ too. Very much to the point, also nicely uplifting (especially #5). Needed it BADLY.
1It’s here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/michael-moore-morning-after-to-do-list_us_5823ab47e4b0aac62489134f
I had no idea of the extent of the rage in middle America, I was stunned by the results. At the same time, I feel little sympathy for those who blamed their problems on Democrats. Every effort under Obama to pass infrastructure or education projects has been thwarted.
I saw the industry I worked in for 30+ years was downsizing and started back to school in 2010. I graduate next month with an MSIT in Cybersecurity that will allow me to do what I want while earning a good living. Many of these disaffected workers feel they are entitled to a good living with no career development. I think they’ll find out they’re chasing a pipe dream soon.
2I’ve got some problems with the Democrats too, but since I’m one of them, I have to accept some blame for myself.
I/We picked a very bad candidate with very high negatives and low approval rating. She would have been a great President, but first you have to get elected. She was never more than barely electable and when the FBI and the KGB got on her case, she was doomed. It doesn’t matter that she was falsely accused (over and over). It only matters that 25 years of the vast right wing conspiracy effectively destroyed her politically.
She earned the nomination by years of loyal service to the party. But her nomination was not what the party needed. We had better options. It was not our finest hour.
3I did not vote for Hillary Clinton, I voted for the Democratic nominee. She would have made a good President, but the primary polls showed her losing in a straight match-up with Donald Trump and others. This is what happened.
What will be intriguing will be how well Trump gets along with Congress. He’s lied constantly since starting his run, I have no doubt many of the ideas he espoused while running were also lies. If he refuses to give Congress what they demand, what will they do?
4Enjoy that beautiful day, Mrs. DuQuesnay Bankston! *
* If it annoys the snacilbupeR that Hilz was Hillary Rodham, then Hillary Rodham Clinton while married to the Big Dawg in Arkansas, ladies hyphenate your names or keep your maiden names. I can handle the extra typing and cut & paste that would require. However, come January Donnie will still be Donnie; there are limits to my typing skills and patience.
As we process the cycles of grief regarding the election results, I am ready to hold on to the anger. Anger is a good thing, if it’s a healthy focused anger that keeps us energized.
What’s that word? 1812. No. 2018! Let’s bury that mutha.
5Some how I don’t think DT will be a good model for the GOP. I hope all of them have to eat the sh!t stew that DT will create. I am deeply disturbed that 500 electoral voters knowingly elected this ignorant, bigotted (sp?) POS. I believe that a candidate needs to be chosen by the votes of the national population, not an unknown college of 500 people. SMH!!
6538, Papa.
7Sam in San Antone, those people you’re talking about were driven over by trade deals that fattened Trump, among others, but took money out of the country for good. The average worker making an average wage hasn’t the skill, nor the assets needed to step up to the next level.
And that’s what we’re looking at. They now have to “pay it forward” as opportunity for their children. Guess what? That ain’t happening, either. Everything is out of their control, at least for the average worker, and they hate that. Tuesday they rebelled against that. Only time and knowledge will turn that around.
8I understand the rage, the disappointment, the loss of jobs, the fear of becoming a minority, I do. What I do not understand is why they think this man who has never done anything for anyone else in his life is going to help them. He thinks they are losers. If you do not make money for him or are willing to be sexually available to him, he does not care.
When I woke up Wednesday morning, this 67 yo white southern female felt very much like a minority, then I realized he did not win the popular vote and I felt a tiny bit better.
9Let’s assume we had a straight match between HRC and Comrade Drumpf. How much weight does a person give the illegal intervention of the FBI into the election-apparently with out any repercussions. It was right at the time Comey made his first announcement that the polls started to swing in Drumpf’s favor.
Remember this guy has a court case about fraud coming up this month and a rape trial next month. Crooked HRC had a list of crimes about…. that doesn’t exist because all the charges were/are BOGUS!
Primo may have been wrong, bit he is not to blame and has nothing to be ashamed of. Like I heard in a baseball game one time- if you have four balls walk with pride, Man.
10Can anyone tell me how Obama was a failure? How did his policies hurt America after the frigging nightmare of dumbass dubya? Why didn’t Dems refute every Fake Noize lie and every Drumpf lie?
11This 64 year old news junkie has not listened to any talking heads since I hit the mute button about 8:30 on Tuesday night. It will be a while before I can go there again.
I am so disgusted with so called ‘news’. Imagine if they really were journalists. Where the story of the moment was a problem in our country followed by objective coverage of both candidates thoughts and possible solutions instead of constant bloviating about TDs latest word vomit, and repeating untrue crap about Hillary’s emails. Where honest conversation with the discouraged people who work in jobs that are disappearing and will never come back. Think COAL MINERS. Where the discussion would be we want good solid education for our children who will not follow in their parents’ footsteps into the mine, into the factory, into the mill. I am disgusted on so many levels, I’m not sure how long it will take to get my mojo back.
12Heh, my wonderful wife keeps saying “there are protests going on downtown”, but saying no when I ask if she wants to go.
If only her foot didn’t hurt…
To all those that ARE out there, thanks.
13My sentiments exactly, Fran! You wrote what I’ve been thinking for months. Coal (for one) will never come back, regardless of what Trump says. Those people needed government assistance STAT and help to find other ways to pay their bills. Sadly, though, the Republicans in Congress would have blocked any attempts at that.
The media did an awful job covering the campaign. All of the lies and bloat spouted by the Republicans was brushed off while they focused endlessly on Hillary’s foundation and emails and Benghazi.
14County level data is where its at. Seems as that was much forgotten by all the poll tsars. Hill and the rest of us knew it would be one hell of a tough slog and very very tight but we decided to chance it. At my age, this may be my very last experience with a good ground game. I started decades ago as a student working on every Kennedy committee around. I thought it was all worth it then and still pretty much feel the same way. Now every time my son sees Trump’s visage he says it is like running full force into a 3 inch thick oak door and that Canada is starting to look pretty good to him. He thinks Trump is going to start paying of this sins with high unfavorables sooner rather than later and everything will once again fall apart, pierced by the spear point of his temperament. He’s made this country less safe just by winning.
15This election and 2000’s election that the Supremes decided is why, in my less sane moments, I would prefer a presidential contest between the two candidates whereby their left wrists and forearms would be duct taped together and each would be armed with a reasonably dull hatchet. The “Winner” would serve as our President for four years.
How bad do you want it Eddie Munster? Rafael? Rand?
16My “message” to the snacilbupeR: not this time. You called us every name in the book and invented a few to force Dubya on us as ‘our President.’ We did and it was a yuuuuge mistake.
It’s payback time. That abomination you elected is not ‘our’ anything. You want acceptance of the unacceptable. You want civility. You want ….. Fuhgeddaboudit. Keep wanting, snacilbupeR. YOUR ‘guy’ deserves everything you gave President Obama and then some. Enjoy your 3am tweets after our lady Senators hurt his little feelings. If you think Senator Warren rocked his tiny little world, wait until she is joined by our latest lady additions to the Senate. You’ll be calling him Stumpy when his short little vulgarian fingers fall off in a pre-dawn twitter storm.
Wait for it, Donnie. We want to see just how much you enjoy your first 100 days, loser.
17I was so proud of the (largely) peaceful demonstrations across our nation last night.
At least it wasn’t about being armed and open rebellion which has been posited by so many of the alt-right.
I hate that Cheeto-faced MFr, and I’ll never be able to watch a State of the Union Address as long as he’s giving it, but I’ll definitely be keeping a strong eye on the legislators. Just because there is a Rethuglican majority doesn’t mean
18(Sorry–hit “enter” too soon!)
…doesn’t mean they get to do their mischief unnoticed and unchallenged.
19Just found out about a petition to the electoral college. (This kind of election was exactly why it was created.) Don’t know if it will do any good, but at least we can try:
https://www.change.org/p/electoral-college-electors-electoral-college-make-hillary-clinton-president-on-december-19?recruiter=36054535&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=autopublish&utm_term=des-md-share_petition-no_msg
20The coal miners and factory workers could just as easily be mining coltan, rare earths, or building roads, dams, bridges, or planting forests or building tunnels to transfer water.
The Rethugs wouldn’t go for it, and they won’t.
21All due respect, djw, the time for Internet petitions is past. No matter how many people sign this one, the electoral college will install Trump as the next president. The next election has begun. It’s time to start knocking on doors, personally writing representatives and senators, doing and not talking. In the immortal words of Joe Hill to Big Bill Haywood: “Don’t Mourn – Organize.”
22At least I finally have a use for the “My president is a child raping Nazi” bumper sticker that has been collecting dust.
23I find I am much more angry with the Dems. Republicans behaved exactly as expected but the rotten leadership from the Dems is unforgivable. Who was running Hillary’s campaign? They couldn’t figure out why people were responding to Trump other than being deplorable? And Schumer, Pelosi, Tester and on and on. They chose the worst corporate candidates for many congressional seats and actively worked against progressive ones, in the case of Grayson, or refused to help fund campaigns in many other cases. And when their lousy candidates weren’t doing well they pulled all funding. Who exactly are they working for other than themselves?
24Sorry. I guess I am still very angry. We need to get the democratic party back.
djw, thank you. We signed. Maybe it will help, maybe not, but every opportunity we have to register our disgust shouldn’t be wasted.
Keeping the exchange of ideas polite with @KellyannePolls has not been easy these past 24 hours. How does a married man thank another woman for a royal screwing that didn’t have a happy ending?
The urge to smack the Frankenstein bolts out of Cory Lewandowsky’s head is strong with this grasshopper today.
BTW When Donnie goes to trial for raping a minor and the Trump U fraud, isn’t it the obligation of the House to impeach him when he is found guilty?
25Well, I was a “nasty woman” on Tuesday and I am still a “nasty woman” today.
26I am fighting for my way of life, my children and grandson.
PKM, the rape charge has been withdrawn. You’ll be astonished to know that the young woman was receiving death threats and was too afraid to continue. As far as I know the fraud trial is still on.
Ralph Wiggam, thank you for your remarks at #3. Sad but true. Clinton was the heir apparent for so long I was surprised she was the eventual nominee; people usually get sick of a candidate who’s out front for long. And so many people irrationally hated her already. Worthy as she was, maybe someone other than an elderly Socialist should have stepped up and had a go at it.
27Rhea, where are Deepthroat Comey and the Fibbies? Threatening a witness is a serious felony. The coward(s) responsible should be on trial with Donnie.
28Ready to organize? Two for 2018 sound like a plan. Jane and I have chosen Planned Parenthood and Standing Rock.
https://desertbeacon.wordpress.com/2016/11/10/two-for-2018/
Our lovely FLOTUS and her husband are entirely too nice. Was seriously hoping they would introduce Donnie and his putzfrau to the White House vegetable garden. No, I would never suggest polluting the soil. However, something in a nice empty fertilizer bag over their heads and secured around their offensive necks would be a nice touch.
29I jest read that Trump and Ryan are (gleefully) planning to dismantle Social Security. I don’t think the constituancies of a lot of the reprobates in Congress will think too kindly about that.
30@Linda Phipps
31By the time they get it done, most of the old morons that voted for trump will be dead anyway. The problem is those of us that have been paying into the system for decades, but won’t get SS or Medicare.
Anyone wanting to start a liberal militia, let me know. We need to start taking our country back.
Trump is just the tip of the Rethuglican iceberg. They will turn this country back a century. Oppression will be the order of the day. Let’s be as oppositional as the R’s have been. Nuclear option on the Supreme court nominee, don’t fill all those judgeships. When 20 million people lose health insurance, social security is dismantled and medicare is privatized, do you think those Trump morons might object just a little? The environment will be dying, education underfunded and deregulation will sink us back into Recession. Putin and the Chinese might think this is the time to strike, with a Moron-in-Chief holding court.
32I refuse to take down my Clinton sign because Trump is not my president and never will be.
I admit I will NEVER accept an ugly – not-a-10 – crotch grabbing, lying SOB as president of these United States. One gal I know where I live, voted for that SOB so she wouldn’t have to contend with the abortion issue … she will NEVER have to worry about having one, however, there will be many who, through no fault of their own, will require one! So, I guess, she’d prefer these women be fined and judged and the attending physician thrown in prison! Hey, way to go, asshole!!
33I must admit that now … because of how gut-wrenching this outcome has been for me … I now understand how all those folks felt when Barack Obama was elected … they have hated him with a vengeance and still do! I think they not only hated him for his being born black, but because he has been always squeaky clean!! The only crotch he has ever grabbed is Michelle’s … and we don’t even know if he ever actually did that! The SOB elect advertises that he does that!! I wonder how many of the female interns will leave because of his belief he can do that and get away with it!! Cameras are everywhere, you SOB.
Marcia in Co, 53% of white women voted for the crotch grabber. I have no idea why unless they want to be the next ones grabbed.
34The national leadership of the Dem Party has to commit to taking Texas and Florida. They have to realize there is a country outside of New England. Thank you, this is my short speech for the day as I have been traumatized reliving Nixon’s reelection. The people bought into a boat load of crap from a traitor on that one too.
35Juanita, I so admire you. You are one of my home grown heros. I’ve lived in Texas all of my 76 years. Growed up in San Antonio, found a woman in Austin who would marry me, and have lived in Lee County for more than 40 years. I know the people around me. They are generally good people, but prone to being euchred by smooth talking salesmen of all kinds of snake oil. I’m a retired attorney; If we could sue politicians for lying to voters, I could make a fortune. I want in on whatever you have in mind for Republicans and shit-head Dems. If you want my name and phone number, let me know.
36Cheetoh-faced Ferret-wearing Shitgibbon Cocksplat.
That’s its name and that’s all I’ve got to say.
37George, you never know when and where I might need a lawyer! We are headed home tomorrow night and that’s when I start making plans.
38http://img.wennermedia.com/480-width/donald-trump-obama-handshake-zoom-29c1018b-2f8b-4504-b1de-976aa9857534.jpg
A little levity if you will. Notice how the real Potus defends the family jewels from the mangled orange crotch grabber.
39JJ, I’m thinking that George would be an asset in San Antonio. Maybe take him up on his offer sooner rather than later.
40Oh, yeah… I was in my favorite mini-mart getting beer, and this somewhat inebriated lady–possibly homeless–engaged me in a political conversation.
“Trump or Hillary,” she asks.
“Hillary,” I says, curious as to what she’d say.
Her reaction was epic. Her face screwed up like she’d bit into a lemon, and she looked ready to pounce. “How could you vote for HER,” she asked.
I considered running out the door, but manfully puffed out my chest. “Because Trump is a liar and a con-man. He tells us what a great businessman he is, yet all his businesses, every one of them, have gone broke.”
Pausing to let that sink in on her, I continued. “He’s declared bankrupcy 4 times, and never with his own money.”
“75% of everything he said on the campaign trail has proven to be a lie, and even FOX has called him on some of them.”
I paused again, then “How could anyone vote for a guy like that?”
Then I ran out before she could trap me further.
41e platypus onion says:
“Can anyone tell me how Obama was a failure?”
Sure,
42Lack of true leadership abilities- inspiring, somewhat motivating, yes; but unable to take dominant control of, and organize, the power of the office(s) held for the benefit of his nation and Party.
Also, by allowing so many Repuke moles (from Cheney-Bush) to abide in his government positions, and even adding more (need I mention any names we know of, or those we don’t?).
Striving to be “bipartisan” in the face of sworn mortal enemies (and apparently not recognizing that fact), (even today, although it is necessary for the nation globally I guess)..
I adore you — and was also moved by Michael Moore’s two lists.
43Mr. Onion, Obama is not a failure unless his attempt to normalize the legislative process is considered as stupid.
He is the Jackie Robinson of politics, doomed to follow the rules, even as his enemies broke them. He was elected into an impossible situation, and prevailed twice. He is the founding father of the New progressive movement. and that will never be taken away from him or us.
44There was another protest in Minneapolis. They blocked the busiest freeway through the metro chanting “Black Lives Matter, Love trumps Hate” and other unprintable things. There were hundreds of people.
Sunday a group of appalled people are meeting to plan how to manage in this time. They plan to work with the opposition when possible and to protect, care and advocate for those who might not be safe in the new junta.
45Sure, we can reform the Democratic party…
But what about all those damned bigots, misogynist sons uv bitches who voted for tRump?
Those folks need therapy.
The media also needs reforming.
At least, I left Texas for a more liberal climate in Southern California, but I do hope to return!
46It is INTENSELY frustrating living in what may be one of the most liberal places in the country, because I have almost nothing to do…
And then I read this:
http://www.rawstory.com/2016/11/trump-fans-film-themselves-driving-through-womens-college-and-harassing-black-students/
Well, this is another fine mess…
47And tomorrow is another day.
I am much more angry with the Dems.
Jesus wept.
Dude, the barbarians have just taken the city, and are preparing to loot and ravish. You want to argue about which lieutenant of The Guard is more puisssant.
Pissant
48EPO @34 … well, some of those ladies did wear t-shirts with arrows pointing to their crotch with the instructions to: Grab This!!
That picture of the so-called handshake between the SOB elect and Barack looks like Barack didn’t want that filthy hand touching his and, yes, he didn’t want to be grabbed either!!
49So T-rump is twittering again. Oh not happy that people are protesting…I must say that the late night comedians are going to have plenty of joke material for the next four years. Please Scotty, beam me up…
50
