36 Hours Cold Turkey
I have decided not to play nice.
I had dinner last night with one of my favorite people for times like these and by the time we finished half the shrimp and crabs, we decided screw it, two more days of resting and healing up and then let’s do this thing.
Late last night, as I watching Goliath (which she semi-recommended) she texted me Michael Moore’s thing about what we need to do.
I texted back, “Let’s go burn something, dammit.”
“Ok,” she responded, “but not my bra. I need my bra.”
I am blessed to have a friend so grounded in reality.
At this point, I am mad at both political parties. I admit I am less mad at Democrats but not by much. Plus, I termed-out of the State Democratic Executive Committee so I don’t have to be loyal to them anymore. I’m gonna have plenty more to say about them once I heal up so prepare yourself for a hissy damn fit about Texas Democrats.
I’m headed to the beach to get sandy and wet. Gorgeous day on the Texas Gulf Coast.
My logical half is trying to move forward and hope that things will not go well for Trump trying to play POTUS, hope that even a few Republicans in Congress despise him enough to block stuff he proposes, hope his affection for 3 of the worst world’s dictators doesn’t cause World War III, hope that we can somehow shut down this emboldening of the country’s racists and bigots, who have been having a field day since 11/8. We must get Congress blue in 2018. It’s our only real hope.
However, my emotional half still cannot wrap itself around the fact that the White House will be occupied by a liar, a cheater, a sexual predator, an intellectual peabrain, an emotional and psychological disaster, AND his porn-photo wife who follows him around like a little robot. How can this be happening? How can so many of my female 30-something relatives have voted for this? These are educated Mormon women. I ask them and they say he is so smart, such a good businessman, he cares about us and will make things right, he didn’t really mean those things he said, I don’t like abortion and I know he’ll stop that. I finally had to shut off their Facebook feeds. They wanted to have a Trump victory party. I want to ask them with which of their daughters they leave him alone in a room for an hour. How can America have sunk so low?
1I want to send my thanks to Hillary for her courage and service. How do I do this?
2If the Democratic Party wants to keep me as a member it will need to do the following:
1. Hold fair primaries and keep their finger off the scale for the benefit of one candidate over the other; and
2. Support the economic underdogs just as much, or more, as the identity underdogs.
Item number 1 above is pretty self explanatory. With regard to item #2 it seems to me that the Democratic Party’s main focus appeared to be identity politics with little to no focus on the fact that people are truly struggling in this economy. Yes, gay marriage is important and I am glad we have it, but it seems to me that part of the Party’s focus should have been about putting beans on the tables of gay families, POC families, poor white trash families, etc. What good is marriage if you can’t feed your children?
The Third Way Democrats first gave us the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and then 20 years later dangled Gay Marriage in front of us to distract us from the fact that when it came to the economy they were in bed with the banks and the corporations.
We don’t want just roses; we want bread AND roses.
P.S. Mother Jones would be ashamed of her namesake publication, Mother Jones Magazine. That publication shamelessly promoted a candidate who had more in common with the bankers and was thus more in touch with the bankers than with, as the campaign liked to say, everyday Americans. If the Democratic Party wants to keep me they need to purge the Third Way Democrats from their ranks.
3I swear to God, I don’t feel like showing public respect for the U.S. flag, ever again. A country debauched and ignorant enough to put somebody like Trump in the White House is unworthy of any ceremonial cheerleading from me.
4New York Times article in the Houston chronicle says Stephen Bannon is one of the main candidates for chief of staff. Joy.
5Did anyone notice how, in the pictures of him and the president and him and Ryan, Donnie looked totally overwhelmed? That won’t be surprising to anyone who hangs out in this joint, but now the world is finding out who got elected.
6This is the best news I have heard in days. When do we get started? Not playing nice is my specialty.
7I recently asked for help in writing my thanks to Hillary. Found a site that has popped up just for that. Have a hunch there will be more such sites. Sending her some love really helped!
