Hello Williamson County!
Williamson County, Texas, is just a little north of Austin. I have lots of friend who live there and I make a yearly trek to speak to their Democratic group. I think I’ll have some new material this year.
Please meet county court at law judge Tim Wright of Williamson County.
He was indicted on 9 federal charges including selling guns to a felon on three occasions, lying to federal agents, and helping to illegally export weapons to Mexico.
He’s a staunch Republican.
He’s walking back into his courtroom today to continue being a judge because … hell if I know.
Look, I am all for innocent until proven guilty. But, if this was a cop or a school teacher or a nurse, they would be placed on leave until the case was over. Plus, if he is found guilty I would think that people convicted in his courtroom after this arrest would have a pretty good appeal since they were convicted by a guy who lied to federal agents and brazenly violated the damn law.
In court yesterday he had to relinquish his 51 guns and “a great deal of ammunition.” In Texas, “a great deal of ammunition” means “enough to blow up China.” A moderate amount of ammo is “enough to level Venezuela.”
Only the Supreme Court of Texas can remove a judge from the bench. Want to know the political make-up of the Supreme Court of Texas?
Williamson County – today’s winner of the “Y’all, It’s Texas!” trophy.
So we get to find out if the Supreme Court of Texas believes in the laws or in covering for a GOP jackass.
I’m just on the edge of my seat wondering which way that’ll go.
Feel free to enlighten me, anybody: what the frack does anybody need with 51 guns? I guess every time somebody yelled, “Obama’s gonna take yer guns away!”, he ran out and bought ten more.
1Looks like your link to the KVUE websit got updated. The State Commission on Judicial Conduct has suspended him, so he can’t even judge a rattlesnake race for the time being.
2Since the Repug Supreme Court of Texas probably won’t remove him, is he able to hear cases in jail?
3Umpty, thanks for the update! Now I know that if I am in that part of Texas in the very near future and get caught doing something I oughtn’t, I will get something kind of near justice!
4Juanita Jean and other good Texans, please keep fighting the good fight, until you win. Can appreciate your frustration when the obvious isn’t obvious to a certain subset of the population who elect & select these fools.
It would be selfish and st00pid of me to declare Texas the state of st00pid, when others states such as Kansas, Indiana, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and my very dear state of Nevada are in the competition. Wish upon wish that it was only Texas, but the harsh reality is that Koch crazed Republicans have reached an Ebola level of infectious politics.
5Applause to Judicial Conduct commissioners. This is the first judge in my memory they have “suspended”. Normally only death or a contested primary rids a Texas county of an unfit but sitting judge.
6Bet he is suspended “with pay”. If there was a rattlesnake race to judge, I do not believe I would attend.
7A bit more info on Tim Wright.

8FIFTY ONE GUNS?! I guess we know what folks do at his family reunions. And he said he wasn’t guilty. I’m sure he wasn’t guilty of SOMETHING, I just don’t know what.
9Here is a rather long but interesting look at how wingnut wisconsin justices have allowed justice to be bought and paid for by campaign contributors.

Gotta admit, wingnuts cover for each other. Sordid history of threats and violence and yet they keep on keeping on.
10Goody. The guy they called up from the bench (bad pun!) got caught trying to put his pecker in the payroll.

11@AliceBeth – Nope. According to the Austin paper, Wright is no-play, no-pay.
12banging my head on keyboard.
13OMG,
Captain Kangaroo is a gun runner!!!
14Sounds like he’s supplying the cartels down my way, what with 51 guns. Does he (er, did he) hear drug and smuggling cases by any chance?
15Well, you never know — it could be a new thing (the fifty-one gun salute) and we’re just too quick to, uh, judge.
And remember we’re in Texas so it’s likely he didn’t go out and actually buy all of them when there are so many friendly attys out there.
