Aladamnbama Purity, Per Se.

February 22, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I know it’s kinda weird to use the words purity and Alabama in the same sentence because they go together like roller skates and peanut butter.

But, Alabama is trying to correct that by making sure one thing is perfectly pure – Republicans and their Facebook friends.

Seriously.  Republicans are being kicked outta the Republican party for having Democratic Facebook friends.

“With Republicans being so dominant, we’re seeing Trojan horses. Maybe I should say Trojan elephants,” she said, alluding to the party’s symbol.

Tew, who unsuccessfully ran for sheriff as a Democrat in 2006, said much of the case against him came down to his friends on Facebook.

“They said I still had Democratic friends,” he said. “I’m not going to deny my friends.

“What people say on their Facebook and Twitter pages can come back to haunt them, per se,” she said.

There is no report on Twitter friends or who comes by your house to check your computer to see if you’ve gone to MSNBC.

Thanks to TexasEllen for the heads up.

Rare Personal Post

I told you that I would be in El Lay this week, and I am.

Here is a picture taken at the Bolsky Gallery.  It is Bubba and Bubba Jr.  Yes, I know they look exactly alike. If I hadn’t been there when he was born, I wouldn’t have known that he’s my kid.

Screen Shot 2014-02-22 at 9.17.46 AM

The photograph on the wall is part of Bubba Jr’s masters thesis.  It is a statement about all kinds of things.  It is the official picture of every member of the house of representatives layered on top of each other and centered on John Boehner’s mouth.

It is interesting to me that although the House has female and minority members, the photograph is definitely male and white.  Yes, Bubba Jr is the artist in the family but even his art is wildly political.

CD22 Heads Up

February 22, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

If you know anybody living in TX Congressional District 22, – parts of Fort Bend, Brazoria, and Harris Counties –  flat out insist that they vote for Frank Briscoe.

He’s a great guy and a fine Democrat.  We don’t know anything about his opponent.  He’s never shown up at any Democratic meetings.

This is Tom DeLay’s old district and Frank is the guy who can beat Pete Olson.

Thank you for your help.

The Wendy Davis Campaign

February 21, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Just a heads up for those of you upset with the Wendy Davis campaign or upset with me for being upset with the Wendy Davis campaign.  Here ya go.

There has been massive squandered time and opportunity but it appears that things have a chance of turning around.

Let us hope that someone who knows what they are doing, as opposed to the guys who have lost every damn statewide race in Texas and spent millions and millions of dollars doing it, steps up and knows how to (1) get out Democratic votes in off-year elections, and (2) knows how to get out Hispanic votes.

Texas is not a Republican state – Texas is a non voting state.  The one thing the article misses is that you can have the best damn field operation ever invented, but if your message is this centrist crap the consultants keep trying in Texas, the base stays home.  For the first time ever, the Texas Democratic Party has a field operation with hired and trained staff all over Texas.  Use it.

Just let Wendy be Wendy and Democrats be Democrats.  We’ll be fine.

Fun With Guns: Snow Edition

February 21, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I can understand living in Michigan and being really, really, holycrap really, tired of snow.

I get that.  It hasn’t snowed here since 1973 and, dammit, I’m still sick of it.

But…..

A man frustrated with snow removal efforts at his apartment complex shot at a snowplow Tuesday morning, shattering the windshield, police said

A 39-year-old man was arrested after shooting a round at the snowplow driver around 7:30 a.m. at the Valley Ranch Apartments in the 1400 block of Oak Valley Drive of Pittsfield Township.

Yes, the shooter had a license to carry and had been to classes where they teach you that shooting someone might kill them.  Luckily, all he killed was $2,500 worth of glass window and any chance of being the first house on snow removal day … or the last.

Thanks to Carl for the heads up.

Evelyn Burleson

February 21, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Long timers around here have heard me talk often about my friend Evelyn Burleson in Calhoun County.  Evelyn says that being a Republican is just an excuse to be greedy.  She is one of the best Yellow Dogs Democrats I know.

Last month, Evelyn’s beloved husband Jack passed away in her arms surrounded by his family.  The Victoria Advocate did a wonderful story about my friend.  I want to share it with you.  This is what a Texas woman Democrat looks like.  I want to be Evelyn when I grow up.
