Got A Few Free Minutes?

August 17, 2011 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Last night our local Republican party here in Fort Bend met to elect a new leader when their old one up and suddenly resigned a couple weeks ago.  Very sneakily, which is a requirement for Republican officeholders, he named who he wanted to be his successor and called for a vote quickly before his opponents could organize.

So, about 70 Republican precinct chairs showed up last night and elected Sharon Roberts by 3 votes.  She is a 58 year old woman, the only voter in her home, and has been registered to vote since 1996 but didn’t bother to do it until 2008.

She is also a blogger.  Now, I got some stuff to do today, but if you’re sitting around trying to stay out of this heat, please make yourself at home by finding some crazy stuff on her blog.  I’ve already found the part about the Founding Fathers being men of high moral character – Good Lord, where did these people learn history?

She’s asking to be paid to blog, but don’t give her money. There’s no need in encouraging this stuff.

Put whatever fun  you find in the comment section.

Strip Clubs? Really? Strip Clubs? Like With Girls?

August 16, 2011 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Y’all, I’m kinda stunned and I’m not the stunned type.

Honey, we Democrats are tame compared to Republicans who dislike Rick Perry.

Rick Perry and strip clubs?  Really?

The rumors about Perry’s hoochy-koochy have been around Austin for years and years.  It’s said he will do the wild thing with anything.  Insiders joke that he killed the coyote to keep it from talking.  But, it’s a joke.  Nobody thinks he was noodlin’ with a coyote.  Well, almost nobody.  Okay, at least most people.

I will say this:  I checked this guy out.  He’s 47 years old, lives in Austin, and has a straight GOP voting record.  So, at least that part is true.  I ain’t testifying to the veracity of the rest of the stuff, but I am saying that we Democrats can stand down because Republicans are determined to bring Perry to his knees.

Thanks to MaryK for the heads-up.

Well, No Negative Campaigning Hits The Dust

August 16, 2011 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Rick Perry does not like negative campaigning.  You need to write that down somewhere because you’re going to come to doubt it.

Starting today.

Okay, the question, from the Wall Street Journal reporter, was, “Are YOU suggesting that President Obama doesn’t love his country?”

He did not ask if President Obama loves his country.  If asked if Rick Perry thinks President Obama loves his country.  How would President Obama know what Rick Perry thinks?  Hell, Rick Perry doesn’t even know what Rick Perry thinks.

Abilene man mulls over run for governor

By Larry Zelisko
Reporter-News Staff Writer

Joe Earles of Abilene is testing the political waters on the Internet before wading into a possible campaign for Texas governor.

Earles, who tried to wage a write-in campaign for Congress in 1992, said Monday he is considering a run for governor based on response to his Web site. The site espouses his views on a variety of subjects and will be continually updated, Earles said.

The last time he ran for office he did so under the name Joe Bob Earles.

“There’s a theatrical quality about Joe Bob,” he said. “But in the interest of name recognition I’m using Joe Earles.”

If only he had stuck to Joe Bob, we would not be in the mess we’re in now.  I am convinced of it.

And there’s more proof of this:

The newspaper circulation route driver said the power of the Internet is unbelievable. It offers a chance for anyone to see where he stands on the issues, he said, and a chance to communicate one-on-one.

“The Internet is convenient and people like convenience,” he said.

Earles asks visitors to his Web site to contact him if they want him to run against Gov. Rick Perry, a Paint Creek native, and to forgive interruptions of his train of thought because of his dog’s antics. He urges English teachers to contact him if they find mistakes on his pages, as well as anyone who wants to make extra money at home selling Web sites.

He was a man with vision.  To this day, people still like convenient.  And the internet thing kinda worked out, too.

It Got Here

My bumper sticker got here today:

It is very cool.  You, too, can have one.  Put $2 cash American money in an envelope and mail it along with your address to Glen Maxey, P O Box 2505, Austin TX 78768

If you’re a very nice person, you’ll also enclose a stamp, but it’s not required.  If you want larger quantities, you can email Glen at glen@glenmaxey.com

And for the same money-saving price, Glen also has this one.

So, just let him know which one you want.

Taxation ON Representation

August 16, 2011 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Republicans have found a new way to tax us.

There is now a charge to talk to your Congressvarmint.  But, thankfully, only the Republican ones.

It will cost $15 to ask Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) a question in person during the August congressional recess.

The House Budget Committee chairman isn’t holding any face-to-face open-to-the-public town hall meetings during the recess, but like several of his colleagues he will speak only for residents willing to open their wallets.

Ryan, who took substantial criticism from his southeast Wisconsin constituents in April after he introduced the Republicans’ budget proposal, isn’t the only member of congress whose August recess town hall-style meetings are strictly pay-per-view.

Rep. Ben Quayle (R-Ariz.) is scheduled to appear Aug. 23 at a luncheon gathering of the Arizona Republican Lawyers Association. For $35, attendees can question Quayle and enjoy a catered lunch at the Phoenix office of the Snell & Wilmer law firm.

And Rep. Chip Cravaack (R-Minn.) took heat in Duluth this weekend for holding private events in his district’s population and media center.

Now, I was born at night but it wasn’t last night, so I completely understand that the purpose of this charge is to keep the riff-raff out.  You know, folks who might question their congressvarmint’s voting record on social security and Medicare.  I get that part.

Republicans don’t want to hear from the regular folks, and since money comes before honor, well, this was an idea just made for Republicans.

I want to tell you something.  I have listened to Paul Ryan many times and he has yet to say anything I’d pay to hear.  It ain’t like he’s James Taylor or Bruce Springsteen.  And, personally, I think the man needs to do more listening than talking.

Thanks to David for the heads-up.
