Phil Stephenson from Texas

April 27, 2017 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

The Dallas Morning News has a story about Texas Republican State Representative Phil Stephenson from District 85.  If I were to get up from my patio chair and walk to the end of my street and take 5 more steps, I would be in District 85.

Phil is 72 years old, which ain’t all that old by my standard but Lord Almighty, Phil’s lived 72 hard years.  I’m not saying that his gears are slipping, but … oh hell, that’s exactly what I’m saying. Phil is crotchety old.

Every legislative session, we get more proof that Phil needs to do whittling instead of legislating. Everybody keeps their fingers crossed that he doesn’t show up to legislate without his pants on.

Here’s what Phil has done now.

Twice, not once but twice in this session, he tried to name a highway after a state trooper who was killed in 1992 but instead named it after his murderer.

Twice.

He tried to blame it on someone else, but he refused to let that someone else speak to the press about it.  The bottom line is that Phil’s name is on the bill and if you put your name on something, it’s yours. You learn that in the first grade.

Here’s how it broke down: The first time he got the location of the highway wrong along with using the name of the murderer as the honoree.  So, he corrected that.  Second bill named the right highway, but still insisted on naming that highway after a man who murderer a state trooper.

The second bill was filed on the last day of filing so it couldn’t be withdrawn.  It was now public record, forever.

He had to get four-fifths of the Texas House of Representatives to vote to allow him to withdraw the bill.  He stood in front of them all and said, “I screwed up.”

They let him off the hook this time, but – and I can’t prove this for a fact but I did hear it – he had to promise to remember to wear his pants on the house floor.

Thanks to Bubba for the heads up.

  1. I bet he makes his grandkids wear name tags when they visit.

And if those munchkins ever held a straw vote in the rec room, Phil would lose to the other grandpa.

  2. You think he’s bad – what about the fools that show up and vote for him? Something tells me they aren’t wearing pants, either.

  3. This stuff just keeps us all wondering what will happen next!

  4. Republicans admire those who are successful in killing others; look how much they support the immoral corrupt cops who kill people who happen to look at them the wrong way or their hero George Zimmerman. So in the mind of this old douchebag, the killer’s name is more memorable than the state trooper and that’s why he keeps trying to honor the murderer.

Oh Cheryl, they wear them on their heads! And run around giggling insanely!

I heard that poor ole Phil has more problems than wearing his pants on his head. He tries to zip them up.

That’s not all that appears wrong with the bill, the senile codgerslator is using the wrong persons name for the title of the highway bill:
“Sec. 225.123. ROY P. BENAVIDEZ MEMORIAL HIGHWAY. ”

Roy P. Benavidez was never a DPS trooper, he was a highly decorated Army Special Forces sergeant, and was wounded many times in Vietnam ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Benavidez ).

There was a DPS trooper killed during a traffic stop on US-59 near Edna by the murderer named, it was Trooper Bill Davidson* on 11 Apr 1992 (I traveled that stretch of highway frequently once, collected a few speeding ‘citations’ in that area too, it was, and I knew it, a notable speedtrap area, especially in the night; may have gotten a ticket from the same man. It was usually around 8-9PM or 3-4AM as I was heading for work in the Houston area on Sun/Mon, so I got the ‘walk test’ too, heheh: just iced tea, ossifer…).

In fact, I think a portion of an expressway in San Antonio is named in Benavidez’ honor, so naming a portion of US 59 near Edna/El Campo might be redundant.
Or it might be TX State highway 71, there have been a number of bills introduced by this codgerslator trying to name SOME highway somewhere after somebody.
EG, another act: “By: Stephenson H.B. No. 1303
A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT
relating to the designation of a portion of State Highway 71 in Wharton County as the Roy P. Benavidez Memorial Highway”

So, who knows what’s going on here, multiple errors for sure.

—Don’t anybody tell senile Texas Republican State Representative Phil Stephenson that the famous stripper Candy Barr was from Edna, Texas, no telling what he might try to get a naming ‘act’ for then: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candy_Barr .
“…Barr was acknowledged in the magazine Texas Monthly as one of history’s “perfect Texans…

I remember when the trooper was killed, the representatives, umm, honoree was captured about 1/2 mile from my house.

  11. Wow! He really makes it so easy for my case about Sessions and tRump and mental impediments that sometimes come with aging. They impediments get even worse the more egotistical the afflicted.

    11
  12. Phil may certainly be crotchety old, but he’s careless and un-thorough as well.

  13. Maybe he should have just put up a plaque.
