Houston’s Own Kim Davis

September 07, 2015 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

There’s a guy running for mayor of Houston who claims to be a Democrat.  His name is Ben Hall and he was defeated for that position two years ago by Annise Parker, a wildly popular three term mayor who is LGBT.  If she wasn’t termed-out, she’d win by a landslide again.

ben-hallHall, a rich lawyer, likes to flash his Democratic credentials.  He’s not considered to be a top tier candidate in this election.  Democratic State Representative Sylvester Turner and former sheriff and Democrat Adrian Garcia are the top candidates.  However, there are a dozen candidates for mayor, and some of them are progressive Republicans.

In the November election, Houston has HERO, the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance, on the ballot.  HERO insures nondiscriminatory practices based on gender, ethnicity, age, marital status, religion,  disability, age, and sexual orientation and gender identification.

Hall, who is not doing well in the polls, has decided to make HERO his issue.  He’s the only serious candidate who has come out against it.

He invited my momma to come hear him speak.

DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS DISCUSSION. Join me as I explain the details of one the most important issues in this election. I’ll discuss why you should vote NO to the “Houston Equal Rights Ordinance” (HERO), also known as the “Bathroom Ordinance”. This ordinance will be identified on the November 3 ballot as Proposition 1 a/k/a Prop 1.

The “Bathroom Ordinance?”  Yeah.

Hall contends that this ordinance will allow transgendered people to dress like the opposite sex and come into the bathroom to stare at your little girl.

He’s completely serious.

What keeps that from happening now is pretty much anybody’s guess.  And what will make it happen after everybody has the frightening horror of equal rights is also crystal ball stuff.

I don’t think Hall understands how women’s bathrooms work.  I really don’t.  Does he know there are no urinals in there?

Of course, his hope is to pick up rightwing votes because he’s the only candidate who opposes the ordinance.  This has got to be troubling for right-wingers: the only way they can vote against the gays is to vote for a black man.  Thats a damn quandary.

Ben Hall can kiss my big blue butt.  I hope he gets embarrassed again at the polls.  Trust me, his ego needs it.

  1. I was taking a drive up to Huntsville on Friday (no not visiting inmates, visiting the dean of SHSU) and I heard two very different commercials on the radio. The first was from a Pediatrician who said he was FOR HERO – and that as good Christians we should be all inclusive. The message was love and compassion and to tell you the truth I was pretty surprised (because it was such a positive message). The second was from some woman who was representing all mothers and that it’s sick, disgusting and perverted to let men into the woman’s restroom. The message was hate and ignorance. Not too surprised, however I was tempted to call child services and have her investigated as that kind of hatred would poison a child for life.

Sure Ben, grab a right wing wedge issue and expect to float your way into the Democratic Party. As for the lady worried about her daughter, relax lady, unless she encounters Mike Huckabee in the girls locker room. He’s the heterosexual male pervert who wished he was transgender, so he could shower with little girls. Think of your poor dog, too lady, if he has his family with him.

Wingnuts and logical thoughts, a chapter yet to be written.

  3. These republicans in democrats clothing seem to be everywhere in Texas. I like to know where my campaign donations go so I always donate to a particular candidate instead of to the Democratic Party. My taxes may, probably, pay for war but my political donations go only to candidates I know about.

  4. I am still amazed these folks haven’t driven me to drink yet.

This guy is a Democrat? When?

  6. He’s the only candidate who opposes HERO? So all the local Republicans are for it? If so, there may be more intelligent Texans than I thought (outside of TWMDBS).

If he’s the only “Democrat” who’s against it, he should switch, because we don’t need the likes of him.

  7. Close the door on the stall, dammit.

  8. Any clown can register as a Democrat (a lot have). While it is frustrating to sort through all the dross these jokers spew, it comes to us figure these things out. I still would rather have this annoyance but a relatively open election system.

  9. Damn, he’s about as weird as Ben Carson!

  10. Dear Harris County Democratic Party:

    (a) Please start vetting candidates that run for elective office in Harris County…. a little better.

    (b) Please make sure that they are NOT merely DINOS.

    Thank you,

    Registered Democrat….Harris County, Texas

You only “register” with your party in the primaries, unlike some states where you go someplace special and sign something that says you are a Republican or otherwise.

UmptyDump, you’d think anyone could figure out that all they have to do is close the stall door. But remember back in the Dark Ages when the ERA got beaten by folks who ranted about men using women’s bathrooms. If you got a bunch of little kids, you know you really don’t care who was in there before as long as you can get into the bathroom and hope there’s tissue.

  12. “Progressive Republican?” The Republican politicians I’ve encountered are insane and have NO interest in actually governing.

    12
  13. City races in Houston are technically non-partisan, so whether he believes himself to be a Democrat is sort of ireelevant. After all, if Hall is a Democrat, then the last race for mayor was really between two Democrats.

There are more progressive Democrats in the race, and there’s a chance that the run-off this year will again be between two of them.

But as the pro-discrimination crowd has gained traction rebranding the equal rights ordinance a “the bathroom bill,” Hall has decided to make it his campaign center piece.

Which means he is campaigning on one more issue than he did last time.
