Friday Night Fun EDITED

October 02, 2015 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Rockingham County, Virginia, needs a monument to voter ID. Especially the ones who don’t get to vote because they got bamboozled by a Republican.

Screen Shot 2015-10-02 at 2.09.40 PMColin Small is 31 years old.  He’s from Pennsylvania and it appears that the small thing about him is his mind.  He’s got himself some mighty fine ways of making money, though.  He works for the Virginia GOP and the Republican National Committee after completing an internship with Republican Rep. Mike Kelly. Small is part of the $3 million voter registration efforts by the Republican National Committee.

But, he’s not just doing his civic duty of registering voters.

The owner of a store in Harrisonburg, Va., told a local television station that he became suspicious when he saw a car with Pennsylvania plates dump an envelope in back of his store. He recovered the envelope and alerted authorities.

And what was in the envelope?  Completed voter registration cards. The license tags came back to Small.

He’s in jail. If I were on his jury, I would take away his right to vote for 20 years, maybe longer. Do you think for one minute that those registration cards were from affluent white men?  Hell, no.

Salon has more details about the GOP and messing with voter registration cards, mostly in Florida.  Example, they take people who are currently Democrats and re-register them with a change of address. Then when they go to vote, their ID and their voter registration won’t match.  They’ll have to cast a provisional ballot, even if they can prove they still live at the first address and never even heard of the other address.  Provisional ballots rarely, if ever, get counted.

Do I need to do my semiannual announcement that I hate Republicans?  God forgive me, I know I not supposed to hate them, only the acts of heresy they commit, but that seems a little convoluted and complicated to me.  I just hate them.

EDIT: this is a total screw up on my part.  Neither Yvonne or I noticed the date on this article.  It was in 2012.  As Edward notes in the comments, Mr. Small walked free.

I still hate Republicans.

Thanks to Yvonne for the heads up.

  1. Take away his right to vote for 20 years? Sorry, no. Put him in federal prison — one year for every vote he tried to steal. The right to vote is the very basis of our Democracy. We need to show the GOP that this is serious and we take it very, very seriously when they illegally steal voting rights from people. Until we do that, they are going to keep doing everything then can to rig the system. Right now, they’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain. And prisoners don’t get to vote, so that solves that problem, too.

Juanita. My friend. Mr. Small was back in 2012. And in 2013 all charges against him were dropped.

Here’s the Huffington Post article on it: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/18/colin-small-gop_n_3619396.html

I became a US citizen about 10 years ago so I could vote – and I was so proud to vote for President Obama. That said, I am an old white woman so no reason to pull my vote!

That said, I am truly angry about the voter fraud perpetuated by the GOP. Unfortunately, the Canadian “rulers” are trying to pull the same crap and their national vote in October 19th.

The Koch Brothers who seem to be behind so much of this fraud are truly evil people.

  5. Just like the nuts will make it nigh impossible to vote or, soon, to board a plane without jumping through a myriad of hoops (and spend a lot of $$$), they refuse to make it difficult to buy a gun.

Which is more important: to be armed or to vote and to travel?

    H-m-m-m-m

  6. Miz JJ, it doesn’t matter WHEN it happened, it matters THAT it happened. And, it matters that the perp got nothing more than a slap on the wrist. May a great pox be visited on all Republikkkans.

  7. JAKvirginia says:

Yes, Susan. You did report this when it happend back in whenever. But so what? There’s a lesson here people. Your voter registration is sacred. DO NOT trust someone at a table in front of a store or anyplace else. Make sure your registration has not been tampered with. You can check by phone or online. Protect your rights. Don’t trust someone else to do it for you. DO THE WORK! PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS! (End of lecture.)

  8. I thought the story sounded familiar when reading it, but it’s always good to be reminded of the lengths Repugs will go to in order to suppress/hijack/impede Democratic votes. Mr. Small didn’t have to pay for his crime, but we can rest assured that “small” undoubtedly describes his brain and manhood.

  9. Linda Phipps says:

JAK, I agree. With this abomination in mind, it’s amazing that McAuliffe got elected. He’s not the best, but surely better than the alternative, Cockroachinelli and the total wingnut EW.

  10. Wonder what this guy is doing today. Running for a congressional seat perhaps?

    10
  11. Hippie Cowboy says:

…but check out what the Repugs did in Aladamnbama yesterday. To cut the budget, they closed the driver license offices in 28 counties…most of which are counties where the population is predominately African American. So how are those people supposed to get IDs required to satisfy the voter laws?

    11
  12. I’ve been in VA for years so this was old news to me. This guy is still not free from lawsuits. There was also a Republican problem in New Hampshire about 8 or so years ago concerning a Rethug doing telephone banking. He got hauled into court since there are laws about using the telephone to do bad stuff. Now we are facing a bid for the governorship from an old GOP pro, Ed Gillespie. He tried out for a Senate seat the last time around and did not make it. I think he is looking at Richmond as a consolation prize!

Despite this having been ‘adjudicated’ some time ago, federal authorities need to take another look at Colin. At a minimum check how many weapons are registered to him or his family members. Boy looks unbalanced.

    * If the media can access the President’s mood based on the level of flatulence in Roger Aisle’s office, I feel equally competent to access this clown as having potential to be a mass shooter based on his picture.

    13
  14. I will ALWAYS hate republicans!!

  15. bud malone says:

Allow me to be the heavy duty hater. Do you suppose he is a pretend southern christian?

    15
  16. Polite Kool Marxist says:

bud malone, that potential serial shooter is from PA. Guess that would make him a carpetbagger christian by cracker standards.

  17. When I register voters, if they check the R box, I hand them the completed application and cheerfully remind them not to forget to mail the paperwork in on time. I sincerely hope that those forms wind up hidden under the scurf of Burger King wrappers in the backs of their shabby cars.

White people often ask me what the “Democrat” and “Republican” party selection is on the form. Black people all seem to understand the difference.

    17
  18. I thought Mr. Small face looked familiar. Now if I can just get rid of the creepy feelings…
