Okay, I Admit It

September 22, 2021 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

It’s not going well, y’all.  I listened to the talking heads last night on the television and they say the debt ceiling deal is catastrophic and a major threat to democracy. It looks like Biden’s bill is DOA because, come to find out, Democrats are not a whole lot better at compromise than Republicans are.  An absolutely new variant of Covid has been found in a nursing home in Nebraska or some damn place and we are back to killing 2,000 people a day with Covid.  Migrants are being beaten with a whip by LEOs on horseback on the border.  We’re having 16 foot waves on a lake near Chicago and that just don’t seem right.  Biden is giving away nuclear weapons and, damn, that don’t seem right either.

This morning, I was so depressed that I considered moving to Cuba and running for Secretary of Agriculture. Somebody’s gotta bring in the agave crop and I think I am just the woman to it done.

So, I went looking somewhere – anywhere – for good news.  This appears to be a lot harder than you’d suspect.  But, I finally found it and it was worth the hunt.

People with a higher consumption of dairy fat have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease than those with low intakes, according to new research studying some of the world’s biggest consumers of dairy products.

A hunk of cheese and a bottle of wine because my heart needs it today.

One other thing, how come all this news and a white girl getting killed by her boyfriend takes precedence over everything?  Did Nancy Grace win the culture wars?

Be social and share!

  1. I’ll cheers! to the hunk of cheese and wine lean. Wish I could share a good news story, and I’ll second all else in your post too.

R.1 is the new variant of COVID-19 and was found in a nursing home the the same state that brought us Mitch McConnell & Rand Paul – Kentucky.

Thanks for the wine & cheese “happy hour” suggestion. 🙂

  3. Cool, Ms. JJ! More ice cream and milk & cookies for me, please.
And pie? Fruit pies have to be especially healthy. Yes!

Is it too early to have wine and cheese? Better wait, grandkids coming after school till 6.
Biden and Dems seem a little lost right now. I blame manshit and sinema, the fake democrats that are holding us hostage so they can appeal to red state voters. They’re so full of bipartisan bullshit.
Recently, my sister-in-law moved to the DC area and my wife and I discussed helping her move then taking a left to Canada. We decided against it as there’s too many red states between here and there full of covidiots.

Ice cream! Yummmm! I’m sure my doctor would disagree unless it’s made of green beans or kale. In the meantime, my granddaughter has straight A’s so I’m going to live on that good news for a while!

  7. I think I’ll stash some cartons of wine and oreos (not consumed together) before they declare shortages on those, too.

Grandma Ada @ 6 – I ‘d forget the kale and eat the ice cream. My dear vet, who cared for my pets all of these years, died of Covid two weeks ago. He was a compassionate, kind man. This virus is so stealthy and unpredictable. I believe in eating ice cream, oreos and drinking the wine today, because you never know if you’ll be here tomorrow.

  8. Some days it’s hard to get out of bed. The trick is to get a hearty breakfast to start your day right!

Thank you. I was wondering why the disappearance and apparent murder of a young, blonde woman was getting so much attention. Maybe she was one of our more distinguished “lifestyle bloggers,” whatever that is.

Steve, I’m afraid Canada also has its share of covidiots. Read this:

There’s no hiding place down here, as the old song says.

May I offer some self-made bromide regarding these times which have been with us since day 1 and will continue until the end times whatever and whenever that means.
We are all familiar with “Schtoff happens!”. Giving this a little more thought over time, I added for my own mental benefit “It happens to the bad guys as well as the good guys. Therefore, when it happens to me, I don’t take it quite so personal.”
Please pass the wine – any kind will do.

Wisconsin is dairy heaven. If the article is true, I wonder why people don’t live longer here? It might have something to do with getting on an ATV with a skinful of hooch.

  16. The Surly Professor says:

Years ago locally there was a missing blond college girl, and she still has not been found. But hundreds of volunteers went out and searched the woods and ravines, and found skeletal remains. Then as the news reported “everyone was disappointed because they were the remains of a middle-aged black woman”.

As if they had mistaken the bones of some livestock for the girl they were looking for. As if a middle-aged black woman was of no value – after all, she was not young and blond. Her family was poor and unable to print up thousands of color posters with glamor shots of her, and were almost ignored by the police. Law enforcement basically told them “call us if she comes back from where ever she’s gone to get stoned”, even though she was a sober church-going person.

I’m fed up with the media frenzy when it’s an attractive, young, and Anglo woman. Even though many cold cases are being solved by advances in DNA testing, pay attention to how few of them are minorities – even though they proportionately are victims more often.

  17. Steve from Beaverton says:

Ok, grandkids have gone home and coincidentally, my daughter just came over with a selection of delicious cheeses. Sampling some very delicious Italian Gorgonzola Dolce cheese with some Chardonnay. She says it’s pungently delicious. That should set me up for a good night despite everything that’s negative in our world. JJ, I think your post today is responsible for people finding some good. I know I’m happier than yesterday despite everything. Thanks!

    17
  18. The Surly Professor @16. Thank you! The most brilliant woman I have ever met ever in life excluding my Grandma, Mom, Sisters and Jane was a young brilliant Captain who happened to be a women of color who was part of the staff in charge of one of the USAF survival schools. I was a raw boy ROTC cadet. She is soon to retire full colonel and is godmother to our sons KJ and Jack. She should be a 3 star or higher if the military rewarded excellence.

The disgust with racist Republicons including Eisenhower is beyond my ability to express. Those phony “fiscal conservatives” are hellbent on wasting our best resource, people.

What about those of us that are lactose intolerant?

    20
  21. Nick @ 20 skip the cheese and enjoy just the wine & a smile, or skip into your market as there are quite a few suitable faux cheeses (and faux wines) nowadays to keep with the intent of spirit.

    21
  22. Gotcha covered, Nick.
A drink you say? Avoid all the pre-packaged yuck available at the supermarket. Tap a fresh coconut. Shred a pineapple. As for anything healthy you’re missing from dairy, please for the health of your liver and kidneys avoid any and all over the counter supplements. Seriously, name your Vit and there’s another food equally as good, if not better. Yuck, spewy, splat, for whatever reason my blood tests low on potassium. Recommended – avocadoes. Just shoot me. Please. And, if you are as smart as you seem to be DO NOT ask my opinion about guacamole. No amount of garlic will allow that pablum past my lips.

    22
  23. Opinionated Hussy says:

PKM – you clearly are not putting enough hot sauce in your guacamole!

Heard from my Texas sister yesterday that the heat had broken and was “only” in the 80’s. Goodness! I’d be melted into a little puddle. Fall officially arrived here yesterday afternoon, now the rain has cleared out, and I put on wool socks this morning for Senior Discount Day at the grocery. I’ll be baking bread today and starting another batch of kraut….you know, JJ? That’ll make a pretty good day.

    23
  24. Personally, I have been researching beach front living in Chile.

    Nancy

    24
  25. Nancy Yates,

I’m researching the possibility of permanent residency in Ireland as my great grand father was Irish and also looking at American enclaves in Panama. I see my life getting poorer, shorter and perhaps even dangerous if the f-ing fascist GOP takes over our government leadership.

    25
  26. Annie Thomas says:

    Hi Papa!

If your grandparents ( at least one) is from Ireland you qualify to apply for citizenship. I did it back in 2014-16. It takes time and is costly- $800-&1000 for all documents, mailing, etc.

I hope things work out. Fingers crossed.

The psychopaths are powered and paid to destroy. Perfect soldiers for Mercer, Kochs, Rove, Leo, ALEC, and many more dark moneyed evildoers.

    Take good care.

    Annie

    26
  27. Annie Thomas @26,

Where did you find the information on applying for citizenship? My paternal great grand father was born in Atrium County.

    27
  28. Annie Thomas,
I also researched Irish citizenship (on behalf of my spouse) and Italian (for me). Either puts us in the EU. But if I understood correctly, only Italian could be passed on to kids, or, tutta la famiglia. In our 70s, we’re pretty much stuck here (but it is New England, so there’s that) but if our grandkids could be part of the EU so much better. It was a lot of work (and expensive) so I gave up in favor of expanding my pollinator garden. 🙂

    28
  29. I volunteer to be the secretary of the Secretary of Agriculture if I can go to Havana. You can pay me with rum.

    29
  30. About that “Nebraska Variant of Concern,” that depends on how you phrase it.

The mu variant is in forty-nine states (it has not yet been discovered here in Nebraska, but public health officials believe it’s probably here as well)

The delta variant is now the predominant type here. Out here in the Panhandle, vaccination rates are some of the lowest in the nation.

As for the hole in nationwide tracking maps where Nebraska show blank just like we do with a T-Moble or AT&T cell phone coverage map because the governor ordered our dashboard shut down on June 1, we have a new dashboard as of this week.

After shutting down the old dashboard, public health officials, physicians, and researchers all demanded it be restored to track the virus. Gov. Ricketts’s claim was it violated state health privacy laws. He also claimed that county-level data was still being reported to the CDC and the CDC was covering up Nebraska data (because apparently the CDC has something against us for no apparent reason).

The new dashboard will also be pulled down if the statewide hospitalisation rate for Covid-19 drops below 10%.

    30
  31. Thanks, JJ, et. al. I had ice cream last night for the first time in a while since I’m not supposed to have it. Yes, it did make things MUCH better.

    32
  32. Avis Puckett says:

Let’s see, $3.5T over 10 years? That’s $350B per year. So much hoo-hah over that amount. Revives the Ghost of Everett Dirksen saying “a trillion here, a trillion there, pretty soon you’re talking about real money.” (He actually said “billions” – which used to be unthinkable — but I digress.)

And yet the DOD renewal bill for our erstwhile volunteer army (presently between gigs) is $750B for just one year and passed with nary a peep.
