Diogenes, Please Meet Christopher Suprun In Your Lantern Light

December 06, 2016 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

We found an honest Republican in Texas.  I know, I know, we never believed it existed.

Christopher Suprun is a Republican elector. He will not vote for Donald Trump and he makes a compelling argument for his reasoning.  I am willing to bet that in the future, Christopher will own the damn I-told-you-so rights at any Republican meeting in Texas.

I am asked to cast a vote on Dec. 19 for someone who shows daily he is not qualified for the office.

It’s worth a full read over at the New York Times.

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

Time to add a chapter to Profiles in Courage

I applaud his statement, and I applaud the man. We need a hell of a lot more people in this country that are willing to put country over party….

  3. Well there was another one but he quit instead of doing the right thing.

Here are two things worth reading to help guide us through this.

The first gives very concrete suggestions to any group who will potentially be attacked in the coming administration…women, gays, immigrants, trans, racial minorities, etc.

The second gives excellent guidelines for all of us.

It’s good to be home, but I foresee the need for more veterans groups to protect the rights of the people. I cannot think of anything more unconstitutional than militarized police firing water cannons, rubber bullets and otherwise disrupting our right to peaceful assembly. It’s all there in our Uniform Code of Military Justice. It is clearly stated that we do NOT fire upon our own people. So, whether it be Standing Rock, BLM, immigrant rallys or Gay Pride gatherings, veterans for peace are with you.

Jane & PKM – think what’s going to happen when the Insurrection Act gets re-Amended as they tried to do in 2007, but undid in 2008. Think Dat Guy would HESITATE to use this power, if he got it back?

“The President may employ the armed forces… to… restore public order and enforce the laws of the United States when, as a result of a natural disaster, epidemic, or other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack or incident, or other condition… the President determines that… domestic violence has occurred to such an extent that the constituted authorities of the State or possession are incapable of maintaining public order… or [to] suppress, in a State, any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy if such… a condition… so hinders the execution of the laws… that any part or class of its people is deprived of a right, privilege, immunity, or protection named in the Constitution and secured by law… or opposes or obstructs the execution of the laws of the United States or impedes the course of justice under those laws.”

It chills me top the bone to think that Cheney Bush II had that power, even if only for a year.

    @PKM

If the minds of the nation decide revolt, armed insurrection, is the order of the day to put down a tyrant, the tyrant will have the full weight of the Republic at his or her disposal. We must then all hang together for most assuredly if we fail we will all hang separately.

daChipster and Micr, extra judicial law has never been a good idea. That Orange Foolius is surrounding himself with generals does not give the warm fuzzies either. Christopher Suprun and a few like minded men and women are our last hope. If ever there was a need for the Electoral College, this is that election.

The snacilbupeR stuck us with Dubya for eight very long years. We are NOT ready for even four days of Donnie. Between Donnie’s line his pockets foreign policy and Mike’s domestic version of KKKristian sharia law, we would be so screwed. If Kim Jong-un should decide to toss a tactical nuke their way, clemency would be in order.

  9. This is well and good, except for his statement near the end: “I believe electors should unify behind a Republican alternative….” What “Republican” alternative would he suggest? In our current climate, I’m not certain there is a good “republican” choice, given their behavior the past eight years.

    9
  10. How about unifying behind the candidate who got the most votes, or is that too unAmerican a concept?

    10
  11. Jane & PKM, who doesn’t fire on our own people? There were four kids at Kent State in 1970 who sure got fired on. Two of them were just walking to class.

  12. Lunargent says:

Much as I admire the dissenting Electors, there’s no point in their not voting for Trump, unless they DO vote for Hillary. If they just pick a 3rd candidate, or abstain, and nobody has the requisite 270 votes, it goes to the House of Representatives, and we still end up with Trump. Unless they did something really cutesy and pulled a palace coup, delivering the Presidency to Pence or Ryan.

Pontius Pilate washed his hands, and Jesus was crucified anyway.

  13. Mark Schlemmer says:

I want to acknowledge this man for the courage it must take to stand up for his/our children and call out those who are putting party before the interests of the nation. This act take guts and a temperament lacking in most people. Please don’t knock him for being less than perfect. Put yourself in his shoes. To me he is a hero and I do appreciate that this blog takes the time to note his lonely action. I doubt he will ever get to say “I told you so” in a Texas GOP meeting and I genuinely fear for his safety. He is a man the Founders would appreciate, I believe.

The comments in the NYT after his essay are fascinating. Many thank him, and many curse him or demand he resign.
I say Damn Donald Trump and anyone fool enough to vote for him. Three cheers from me for Mr. Suprun.

    13
  14. A Colorado elector has done the same thing. Somebody in the news suggested they vote for Kasick. He quickly went on record saying he wants no part of that.

“Interesting times” indeed, lunargent. Holt scheit!

    14
  15. Read that at another site. He deserves the Congressional Medal of Honor. I am so damn glad I never got to be an Elector many years ago. I would absolutely hate to be known as an outdated useless walking artifact!
