Perfecting the Self-Own

I always hesitate to write these things. You know that’s what these people intend in the first place. After all, why does someone take a picture and release it onto the interwebs? So, we feed the beast but likely not in a way that they fully intended.

It’s the same reason why they put bumper stickers on their big ass truck or fly the flags at the house. It’s the same reason why they wear their t-shirts and hats to the gym or into the grocery store. It’s a not so subtle fish symbol like the early day Christians used to identify each other. For the rest of us, it is the announcement that I am indeed an asshole and there is nothing you can do about it.

I could focus on poor Logan and the life he has in front of him. I could focus on the hatred that is obviously there. I could focus on the nearly pathological need for attention. I could certainly link it to gun culture and the tragic events that occurred in Buffalo. All of these things are things they want.

My overwhelming feeling when seeing that isn’t anger or fear. Those are the emotions they want, but aren’t the ones they get. The overwhelming emotion is one of pity. At the end of the day they are closer to being a victim than they are to being a bully. They likely went out and stockpiled weapons when Joe Biden became president. They stockpiled weapons because they heard that Biden was going to take their guns. Somewhere the gun manufacturers are having a huge laugh and sharing a round of drinks at happy hour.

See, Jimmy Carter was going to take their guns. That didn’t happen. Bill Clinton was going to take their guns. That didn’t happen. Barack Obama was definitely going to take their guns. That didn’t happen. Even three year olds and most dogs could pick up on the pattern. Somehow the MAGA crowd is incapable of deductive reasoning or maybe even object permanence.

Poor Logan doesn’t stand a chance. He is being indoctrinated and not so much into a life of hatred, bigotry, and violence. Yes, he is being indoctrinated into those things too. More importantly, he is being indoctrinated into a life of abject stupidity. Abject stupidity allows you to be led by the nose to hate, to discriminate, and to respond in violence. Abject stupidity allows you to buy crap you don’t need in order to protect your family from things that will never happen. Abject stupidity allows you to photograph your own ignorance and broadcast it on the internet for everyone to see. The self-own is the cruelest own of all.

Abject stupidity pushes you to do things to own the liberals, leftists, and progressives when you could be a lot happier just living your life. These photos never inspire the fear they think it does. It may inspire outrage, but that outrage fades pretty quickly. More than anything it inspires pity. Anger and stupidity don’t mix well and they are a horrible way to live. Yes, the self-own is the cruelest own of all.

Be social and share!

  1. I cannot help but wonder if his parents are giving him a gun as his birthday present.

I feel so sorry for that family that they feel cursing on a 10 year old’s birthday cake is “great.”

  2. Star @ 1,

So the parents used their son’s birthday cake to make a political statement with a weapon and profanity. And this is their message to a 10 year old for his birthday. SMDH….

    2
  3. That cake just screams “happiness”. Poor Logan.

  4. The hope you have less is adolescent rebellion.

My wife’s course are evangelical MAGA types and they can recite every talking point fed them by Fox News. They aren’t violent people themselves but they are totally unable to see how their worldview promotes violence. And they raised 3 very nice girls.

However these days the eldest girl refuses to have anything to do with them. She somehow learned about a bigger world than the one her parents lived in and that is how she is dealing with it.

That is sad but perhaps that same option will open up for Logan.

  5. I feel sorry for the kid, because it’s not his fault he’s being indoctrinated, but I can’t manage to feel any pity for the parents, because I’m too terrified of them and their ilk.

  6. Poor Logan.

He may escape. I have a friend who has dangerously nutty parents. Guns everywhere. Living in a cornfield thinking
brown and black people will break in at any moment.
A lot of therapy got her to the point she can now see them once a year on their wedding anniversary.

    Run Logan, run.

  7. I always asked my kids what cake they wanted for their birthday.
I guess poor Logan was not asked.
My son’s 10 birthday cake had the Celtics logo on it.

  8. Steve from Beaverton says:

Wonder if there was a birthday party for Logan and what other kids thought about the birthday cake. The parents are grooming him for a lifetime of hate. Hope someday he doesn’t turn out like the Buffalo, NY grocery store shooter. Kids grow up fast.
My oldest grandson, Logan, turns 10 in a few months and this cake makes me sick.

  9. Grandma Ada says:

It strikes me that these people have never picked up a book, but probably want book banning, they don’t mind using and instructing their son in foul language and what it means, but don’t want sex ed taught in school . . .

  10. slipstream says:

How to raise a future mass shooter . . .

    10
  11. Diane @ #8:

Yes, it looks more like the parents got what they wanted for Logan’s birthday.

    11
  12. Opinionated Hussy says:

Diane #8 – My daughters and son all wanted pirate stuff on their 10th birthday cakes. My other son wanted a baseball diamond. I find the above family’s choice very odd, and very sad.

  13. Halster says:

Who knows how Logan is going to turn out but either way he’ll surely be dealing with anger issues as an adult. My father was a terrible bigot and had an ethnic slur for anyone that wasn’t a WASP. We argued about it constantly. I left home a week after graduating from high school at age 17 and moved 200 miles away. We didn’t speak for years.

My sister stayed home, earned her masters degree, became a mental health professional and remained close to the family. Since she was a woman, he avoided talking about politics or social issues with her. We both ended up rejecting bigotry and anything remotely resembling right wing politics.

Today I have two adult sons. One is a MAGA type and the other is a well balanced rational human being. You just never know.

  14. Jane & PKM says:

“It’s the same reason why they put bumper stickers on their big ass truck or fly the flags at the house.”

You nailed it in one sentence, Nick! Bumper Sticker ‘Logic’ is the closest a Qcumber conservative will evuh come to actual logic.

    14
  15. Steve from Beaverton says:

As I’ve said several times, I’m pissed our American flag has been hijacked by so called “amurican” “patriots” on our own soil. Almost nothing more irritating than a big truck with an assault rifle decal in the back window, a “let’s go Brandon/fuck Biden” sticker and a dirty, ratty flag hanging out.

    15
  16. So sad that that’s his memory for his 10th birthday. Do you think he even could pick Joe Biden out of a line up? i’m thinking probably not. Do you think that he thinks Joe Biden is a race car driver. When I was 10 I have no idea who was president, I mean I could figure it out but off hand the only presidents I could tell you about back then were Washington Jefferson , Kennedy and Nixon. And that would/should have been a one of these is not like the others question. Doesn’t this border on some sort of child abuse, shouldn’t we notify family services or child welfare because if that was in the school library it would be banned, right?

    16
  17. Nick Carraway says:

I’d love for someone to do that Cathy, but considering he’s clothed, fed, and given shelter he’d likely be a low priority.

    17
  18. Bakers have baulked at baking/decorating a cake for a gay couple, but this is okay? Perhaps it’s home made; as I just shake my head to think a bakery would sell such an item.

    18
  19. thatotherjean says:

    “You’ve got to be taught
    Before it’s too late,
To hate all the people your relatives hate.
You’ve got to be carefully taught.”

“You’ve Got to Be Carefully Taught’ — South Pacific

    Poor Logan.

    19
  20. It’s quite possible that they did ask Logan what he wanted on his birthday cake, and he wanted this. A truly depressing and scary possibility.

Either he asked for it and they gave it to him, or he didn’t ask for it and they gave it to him. I’d like to think America is better than that, but I’m starting to think I could be wrong…
