  1. UmpyDump says:

Has Alex Jones, that other prominent Texan (after Greg Abbott and Ken Paxton, of course) claimed yet that the Uvalde shootings are all a hoax?

  2. Sarah O says:

As a person that has experienced the loss of my Daddy (gun suicide 42 yrs ago) and teenaged nephew (kids playing with a neighbor’s improperly secured gun, 27 yrs ago next month) and the Va Tech shooting as an employee…….this crap has gotten VERY old. My god. What will it take for sensible gun legislation to occur? WHAT WILL IT TAKE??!!!

  3. The US is a failed state. It no longer needs enemies. We’re a failed democracy killing our children. So sorry we’re here.

    3
  4. Sarah O @ 2,

I think that the American public should know all of the names of those who refused to support gun reform laws. Put their names in newspapers using one page ads and put them on bill boards on highways. Shame them and vote them out.

  5. Sandridge says:

14 little kids, 1 teacher dead, many others wounded.
Killer killed his grandmother first, tangled with some Border Patrol, then got into Robb Elementary school and rampaged. Was later killed by LEOs.

Basic mf’ing godamned Abbott, Paxton, Patrick, Cruz response output [as in this Fled Cruz tweet]:
    “Ted Cruz
    @tedcruz
    May 24, 2022
Heidi & I are fervently lifting up in prayer the children and families in the horrific shooting in Uvalde.
We are in close contact with local officials, but the precise details are still unfolding.
Thank you to heroic law enforcement & first responders for acting so swiftly.”

    —The usual MAGAoty hypocritical bullshit.—

[When my youngest daughters were in HS [band] more than a decade ago, we attended games at Uvalde and viceversa since the schools were in the same Class grouping. Wondering if some of the Uvaldians of their peer group have just lost a child [3 of my grandchildren are in elementary school now, in different SoTX schools].

  6. Steve from Beaverton says:

During these tragic times, the repugnantican responses are thoughts and prayers and more guns with no controls will solve the problem. Expect this same bullshit at the NRA get together (oh, and send money).

  7. DaddyWasATexan says:

I also have family in Uvalde. Can remember visiting the little Dale Evans museum right around the corner from my aunt Corinne’s house. Spent many a happy evening under the huge pecan trees in her backyard. Lovely little town, just like where I live now (Radford, VA).

By coincidence, we got an alert on our home phone yesterday about shots fired less than a mile from us and less than a quarter mile from the combined middle & high school which was immediately locked down. Fortunately, there were no injuries and the shooter left town before being apprehended. But he was identified.

I was also supposed to be at Virginia Tech the day of the shooting. Couldn’t get on campus because everything was blocked off. I was a part time student, but a full time Hokie. April 16 is still a big deal around here, and to their credit, the local news teams still cover memorial events.

  8. Sandridge says:

A number of the those wounded in the Uvalde school shootings have now been transported to San Antonio Level 1 trauma hospitals.
What a damned fine way for these surviving schoolchildren, teachers, and parents [let alone medical personnel etc] to begin the summer holiday.

I just saw a news clip of our great governor Abbott discussing the Uvalde incident…[if I were to write of my reactions I’d surely be arrested…]

    Guess what:
“Greg Abbott is slated to speak at the NRA convention in Houston this Friday alongside Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, Dan Crenshaw, and Trump ..”
[plus Paxton, Nugent, and various other RWNJs]

But for some reason when the NRA, CPAC, et al, hold meetings and kkkonklaves, any and all weapons, most particularly firearms, are strictly forbidden from the premises…

    8
  9. Sandridge says:

Steve from Beaverton @6, Abbott and various other GQP MAGAots were just all over the news last week touting their latest gunz deal:
A brand new program to arm schoolteachers, give them some training, and allow them to carry weapons while in school.

Watch for them all to start referring to this latest move of theirs as the ‘soluton’ to the problem; but only after waiting for things to quiet down for a few days.

BTW, Abbott’s media saturation effort this week has been [again] back on his ‘border security’ bull$hit [a trip to Eagle Pass today]; he gets maximum mileage out of that issue. And it’s working, the local media outlets have been lapping it up; with continual ‘nooz’ segments playing in every noozcast.

    9
  10. Sandridge @ 9

And they wonder why there’s an extreme shortage of teachers.

    10
  11. Steve from Beaverton says:

There’s an extreme shortage of reasonable thinking repugnantican leadership in Texas. And that’s the problem there and in other states. It ain’t going to get better before the next mass shooting.

    11
  12. van heldorf says:

Sarah @2.” What will it take?” Only when enough of the power players and their family members in the gun industry get taken down by guns.

    12
  13. Grandma Ada says:

Perhaps they will take this time to explain how they might identify their own children, who might have been shot with military grade weapons. Will it be the shoes they’re wearing, perhaps a beret in their hair or some other identifier. That may be all these Uvalde parents have to go on.

    13
  14. Sandridge says:

Papa @10, Yeah , and I spoke to soon about those jakelegs holding off a couple days, saw a nooz clip of Paxton already advocating that the teachers get right with their new GQP ‘gunslinger teacher’ program ASAP:

    —‘Have Gun, Might Teach’—.

I’m damned sure most teachers secretly want to play Richard Boone’s Paladin character in the classroom [sorry, no extra pay].
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Have_Gun_–_Will_Travel

    .
And the dead schoolchildren count is up to 18, plus 2-3 adults.
Like I mentioned, we used to go to Uvalde for games. And Sutherland Springs is just a few miles out my front door too [y’all remember that massacre…].

    14
  15. Sandridge says:

To paraphrase our incredibly slimy Sen. DetesTed Cruz [R-NRA]:
I’m fervently lifting up my middle fingers to any and all Republican sonuvabitches.

    15
  16. Tedinaustin says:

CJW started the USA mass shooting trend damn near 60yrs ago from the UT tower. Shot his momma first before climbing to his perch. It should have been a wake-up call to embrace sensible gun regulation. American Conservatives are a lot of different things, sensible is not one of them.

    16
  17. Sam in Mellen says:

Abbott is all for spending billions at the border to enhance his political chances but strangely there’s never enough money for mental health care in schools.

    17
  18. slipstream says:

I know a fifth grade teacher. The suggestion that if she carried a sidearm she could defend her class against an idiot with an assault rifle is beneath stupid.

    18
  19. The other part is the BS rePUKEian crap about …need more guns to keep us safe!! But I bet if a teacher or student did an open carry into school they would be stopped and the gun taken. But no one was around to take this idiots gun!!! Ever notice how these insane killers only pick on schools. They NEVER attack police stations!

    19
  20. Fred Farkleshine says:

“One place you won’t find guns in the wake of the Texas school massacre? The NRA’s upcoming leadership conference in Houston this week.”

    https://www.businessinsider.com/nra-conference-wont-allow-attendees-to-bring-their-guns-2022-5

    20
  21. AlanInAustin ... says:

Remember how in DAYS Congress acted when a handful of non-violent people picketed and prayed outside a Justice’s home? Yet they DO NOTHING for one mass shooting after another. I don’t know if it’s a matter of GQP incompetence or cowardice, but it MUST STOP.

Perhaps we need a daily reminder of these events and who among those in gov’t keep allowing them to happen. How about we start doing so as: Greg “Bloody Hands” Abbott; Ted “Bloody Hands” Cruz; John “Bloody Hands” Cornyn.

    21
  22. When the mental and moral misfits such as Cruz, Abbott, et al. start this “prayer” business after a massacre, they cheapen prayer. The truth is they couldn’t are less and to hell with everyone else. At least karma knows their names.

    22
  23. Across social media last night, every time a Republican popped in with useless prayers, he or she was called the party of child killers.

Use their rhetoric against them. The GOP stands for killing children in their lust for more power.
