Have Gun. Will Fly.

North Carolina Republican Congressvarmint and renown gunslinger Madison Cawthorn attempted to bring a handgun through security at the Asheville airport in February, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.

Ya gotta remember that Cawthorn is the dude that said

Rep. Madison Cawthorn said President Joe Biden’s call to offer COVID-19 vaccines door-to-door could lead to the government taking people’s guns and bibles.

He promised to “prosecute Dr. Fauci” because, according to Cawthorn, Fauci was a pain of the Chinese Communist Party.

Come to find out, he comes by his constant lying pretty naturally. And, also coming naturally to Republicans, he’s pervert, too.

The gun on the airplane?

“Five months ago, while boarding a flight, Rep. Cawthorn erroneously stowed a firearm in his carry-on (that often doubles as a range bag) instead of his checked bag,” Micah Bock, a spokesman for the congressman, said in a statement to both The News & Observer and The Charlotte Observer. “The firearm was secured, and unchambered. Rep. Cawthorn endeavors to always follow TSA guidelines, and quickly rectified this situation before boarding his flight.”

And then get this:

Cawthorn was told he could pick up the gun after he returned to the state. He was not charged with a crime or issued a fine and retrieved the weapon on Feb. 22.

Now, if it had been you or me? Oh, there’s a fine between $3,000 and $10,000, plus a criminal referral.

Cawthorn gets his glock back.  Other people who accidentally put a firearm in their luggage aren’t so lucky.

  1. Conservatives have to carry a gun to protect their new found ‘Freedumb!’
Why all the fear snowflake? I’ve enjoyed freedom for 68 years and never once felt threatened!

Yes, it was unloaded, HOWEVER he had a full clip, also in his carry-on.

RHIP, no? (Rank Hath Its Privilege). We need to make the rules the same for everybody.

  4. If your memory is so poor you forget about a gun…
Your discernment so bad you can’t tell your own personal checked baggage from carry on, maybe you don’t have the mental capacity or responsibility needed for ownership of a lethal weapon? Or maybe even the capability to read bills brought before Congress, write bills, or vote on them?

Fortunately the comparatively lower paid TSA workers did their job, and showed they pay more attention to their surroundings, and cared more for the safety of travelers in the airport and on the plane, than did a big mouth high-falutin congressman.

  6. I wondered what happened to him that put him in a wheelchair. He was in an auto accident years ago, but he has apparently embellished the story where he was abandoned by his friend who was driving, left for dead in a burning car, etc. His friend said that he pulled Cawthorn out right away, and at no time was he left for dead. The friend felt hurt and betrayed that Cawthorn lied about it. I guess Cawthorn’s version makes a better story on the campaign trail.

He’s a tough guy alright. He got into a yelling match in the house floor recently (with another repugnantican) and has an ethics investigation going on for his conduct. Kind of wish he’d tried to push the guy or wheel-chaired him so he’d be in more trouble. Unfortunately, nothing will happen.
    What an asshole.

By God, they must have gerrymandered this guy’s district to such an extent that only cretins could vote.
    What a f*ckstick.

  10. G Foresight says:

“Conservative” now means “I belong to a partisan club” with little to no requirements for a belief system beyond tactics about how to stay in power and cater to those who will help accomplish that condition.

As for rule of law, as the political scientist Frank Wilhoit noted:

“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”

  11. G Foresight @10 Thanks ! also,

“The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.”

    JDM @13 …

TSA is not too mean … and it is the local LEOs who go after people. Apparently, there IS something to the idea of COVID brain — the rate of guns was way up last year.

“WASHINGTON – Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers detected twice as many firearms per million passengers screened at airport security checkpoints nationwide in 2020 compared to 2019, and at a significantly higher rate than any other year since the agency’s inception. Throughout 2020, TSA caught approximately 10 firearms per million passengers screened as compared to about 5 firearms per million passengers screened in 2019.

“TSA officers discovered a total of 3,257 firearms on passengers or in their carry-on bags at checkpoints, although total passengers screened in 2020 fell by 500 million versus 2019 due to the pandemic. Of those firearms caught in 2020, about 83 percent were loaded. In 2019,

“In some cities, local law enforcement may file criminal charges against travelers who bring firearms to the TSA checkpoint. TSA will assess civil penalties that vary by number of previous offenses and whether the firearm was loaded at the time. “

  16. Chloe Bear says:

If it had been a Muslim American, with a long beard, wearing a robe that tried to smuggle a gun aboard a plane instead of Madison Cawthorn, do you think the TSA agents would have secured his gun and hurried him along so he wouldn’t have missed his flight?
