I’m reminded of the “rolling coal” folks, who modified their diesel pickup trucks to belch out thick black plumes of diesel exhaust. Damaging their own engines and their own lungs (through those small diesel exhaust particles) in order to “own the libs.”

Scary how these folks interpreted “cut off your nose to spite your face” as a good idea.

May Day actions throughout the United States will include worker strikes, car caravan protests, rent strikes, and a host of social media onslaughts urging work stoppages, and boycotts of major corporations that are failing to fairly pay and protect their workers amid the pandemic.

At a time when worker organizing could be stifled by physical distancing rules and the Trump administration’s disabling of the National Labor Relations Board, workers are walking off the job in massive coordinated walk-outs and sick-outs targeting major employers such as Amazon, Whole Foods, Target, Walmart, FedEx, and Instacart, demanding hazard pay, personal protective equipment and other basic protections.

Texas is barreling ahead with reopening the day after it sees the highest COVID-19 death rate yet

Edit: The governor’s move was panned by the Texas Democratic Party, which said in a statement that the decision represented a “dark day in Texas.”

“Abbott’s decision to let Texas’ stay-at-home order expire is reckless, irresponsible, and puts all of us at risk,” the party said.

Texas State University virologist Rodney Rhode advised in comment to the Texas Tribune that Abbot must be prepared to shut down the state again if cases spike in the wake of reopening.

“If this unfolds in a way we don’t like, like all of a sudden we see a spike in cases, we all must be prepared to step right back into losing those easements of restrictions,” said Rhode, warning that “we might have to shelter in place again.”

62,000 dead in the US. Dying at the rate of 2349 a day, which is 857,000 a year, and increasing.

Is this really the time to reopen golf courses and nail salons?

    5
  6. Jane & PKM says:

slipstream, the keyword is “almost” as to any country or state having a grip on novel coronavirus. NZ seems to have the best numbers, but they also have ‘common sense’ when it comes to gun safety. Latest numbers from NV are ‘steady’ which is not a flattening of the curve. So no, agreed we are not ready for ‘re-opening.’ Sorry I can’t post the casino pictures yet; not on the internet as of yet and since the pics are from a friend via Jane’s phone and we don’t know how to post them erasing the necessary fingerprints and not making them appear photoshopped, we’ll wait.

But as you state golf courses and nail salons? We add: casinos? Plexiglass, limited seating and installing temperature scanners at all casino entrances doesn’t “do it” for us. We want every plane passenger scanned before leaving anywhere on its way here. Scanned again when arriving and quarantined for 14 days upon arrival. Needs to be a visit by road plan, too, since we border AZ, Iduho, and Utard (for starters) not to mention those stupid enough to drive the distance from GA to here merely to gamble.

Ms. Juanita Jean Herownself what says Thelma? We know she can be trusted many times of infinite magnitude over Kemp and Covidiot* 45. Governors would do well to accept common sense guidance from Thelma.

megasoid @4, and everybody else here at TWMDBS,
PLEASE read the thread linked below.
It explains all of what you see with our mutual enemy, the present day Nazified Republican Party. Every move that they and Trump make is solidly rooted in the playbooks of Hitler, Goebbels, Himmler, Goring and the rest, like Ayn Rand. They know exactly what they are doing, even DiJiT, and they are absolute masters at manipulating their blind followers. It’s bad enough now, they will only get worse. They must be stopped, destroyed, or you are next.

PS: Been watching “Grand Prix” on the teevee, the Movies! OTA channel, great flik [holy crap, just saw the Sarti Monza banked turn flyoff crash]. “Soylent Green” will be airing at 7PM CDT on Movies!. Given that there is practically nothing the Rethugs won’t do, y’all may be seeing some unfamiliar cuts in the grocery meat section; given that we now have some shortages…
They really do want -you- gone…

“Trump’s Nazification of the GOP is why there’s serious discussion of killing off the ‘unfit'”:

A -small- sample, there is much more at the link:

“Under Donald Trump, the Republican Party is racing toward a transformation that mimics the greatest evil of the 20th century. Long before the Nazis fully engaged with genocidal murder against the Jews, there were persecutions of people deemed “unfit.” These were people whom Adolf Hitler’s extremists arbitrarily deemed insufficiently able to contribute to the greater German society. They included the infirm, people with learning disabilities, the mentally ill, those suffering from epilepsy, the physically disabled, and those struggling with alcohol issues.
… Then the Nazis moved to the next stage; they worked with political and medical authorities to divide communities between who they deemed as the “fit” and “unfit” members. The arbitrary classification system would serve a deadly purpose.

This ultimately led to the final stage: the systematic, targeted killing of those labeled as a burden. At that point, the Nazis had groomed the German population by getting a little bit worse every single day—just enough to normalize the inhumanity. By the time the Nazis reached this stage, the populace had gotten so used to the cruelties, it seemed like murder of “the weak” was simply the next logical step. They had justified it in their minds.
“Sacrifice the weak” was the policy of Aktion T4, the Nazi euthanasia program that exterminated the disabled.
…Although the modern conservative has always courted the impoverished, bitter, uneducated populace with xenophobic and racist dog whistles, it was because their purposefulness lay in their numbers: they were useful idiots to the plutocracy. At some point, a populist politician was bound to come along who took that hatred to heart. Now, within Trump’s party, hatred is no longer the means to achieving its goal, but rather, it is the goal itself.
…This terrifying stance should scare you to do everything you can to make sure this Nazified version of the GOP is thrown out of power this year. Otherwise, you or your family might be subjected to the “next stage.” Right now, the right is asking for voluntary sacrifices of the old and weak, but history shows it’s just a few atrocities away from being made mandatory. “

Wayne’s cold dead blood covered hands.

REVEALED: Court filings show the NRA is in shambles — and Wayne LaPierre hopes his lawyer can ‘keep him out of jail’

Shooting sprees are not a second amendment right.

Edit: Wayne LaPierre has seen his group go from an electoral kingmaker to the edge of financial ruin. He and other NRA executives have urged laid-off employees to seek public assistance benefits.

The nation’s most prominent pro-gun lobby has lost tens of millions of dollars amid numerous legal woes and investigations that have exposed its questionable financial dealings. Now, the longtime NRA leader hopes his lawyers can “keep him out of jail,” according to previously unreported allegations in court documents in the group’s legal battle against its longtime public relations firm, Ackerman McQueen.

The documents, which were published in full on NRA Watch, a new database launched by the advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety, allege that LaPierre has grown “preoccupied with going to jail.” Ackerman’s allegations paint a picture of an executive who “didn’t trust his own accounting department” and instructed associates not to disclose important information to the group’s auditors.

The documents also include allegations about the NRA’s search for a personal mansion for LaPierre, whose alleged obsession with “purchasing a lavish home for himself” led Ackerman to pull out of the deal.
They also allege that LaPierre may have violated his own group’s bylaws by improperly using Ackerman to pay off the group’s former president, Lt. Col. Oliver North, who left the organization after what it described as a “failed coup attempt.”

Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action, the grassroots arm of Everytown for Gun Safety, told Salon that NRA Watch aimed to show that LaPierre “used member dues for what looks like personal reasons” while “only 10% of NRA funds in 2018 were even spent on gun safety.”

“NRA is losing at the ballot box, in courts, on the balance sheet,” Watts said. “We always talk about shining a light under the refrigerators and forcing the cockroaches to run out, and that’s really what this website does.

“It’s important to point out why the NRA is underwater reputationally and financially,” Watts continued. The NRA’s policy priorities are killing us, so stopping the NRA is our top priority. But when it comes to legal issues, the secret to our success is that we let the NRA beat itself.”

The NRA worked with Ackerman McQueen, creators of the now-defunct online video channel NRATV, since the 1980s, paying them as much as $42 million a year. But the NRA sued the firm in Virginia in 2019, accusing Ackerman of overbilling for its services. More recently, the NRA filed a lawsuit in Texas alleging that Ackerman continues to improperly use the NRA’s brand and properties. The NRA later filed an amended complaint in October alleging that Ackerman had breached its fiduciary duties, engaged in fraudulent billing and failed to maintain adequate records. The NRA has also accused Ackerman of a pattern of corruption, including its “failed” NRATV venture, for the purpose of collecting millions in fees.

Some of the new allegations were made in Ackerman’s bid to have the law firm of Bill Brewer, a longtime friend of LaPierre, disqualified as the NRA’s legal team.

Brewer’s firm responded to Salon’s questions with a statement from Linda S. Eads, professor emerita at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.

“After my review, it is my initial opinion that this request for disqualification provides no legal basis for the relief sought,” Eads said. “Factually, it appears to be supported only by assumptions and innuendo. Also, it is based on allegations that have not been factually established. It is too early in the litigation process to use such unsupported claims as a basis for disqualification, which is one of the most serious actions a court can take against a litigation party — to cause the party to lose its lawyer.”

  15. After seing the armed roiters show up in Mich. and Huntington Beach I wish that the police would treat these criminals in the same way they reacted to protestors in Fergusan and St. Louis.
Tear gas, armored vehicles, military weapons and no restraint upon the use of violence by the blue gangbangers.
    turnabout is fair play.
Violence, arrests, tear gas, flash bands and intimidation is the way they react to every protest by people of color, Or anti police protests against arbitrary execution by the police.
Use police actions against citizens in 2011 in Oakland (don’t forget native protests against pipelines) so why not do the same to these groups of thugs?
Its not like California’s officials don’t use these tactics when faced with crowds.

Debbo! @13, so great to “see” you here. Hope all is well with you and yours. But for Republicons “the right to life dies at birth.” No. Those forced birther hypocrites are not even that consistent. If they really cared about the fertilized ovum, they’d support Planned Parenthood. Just when we thought they’d demonstrated all of their ‘sanctity’ of life phoniness from birth to the death penalty, they reveal themselves to be huge fans of $carah Palins’ death panels with all their take a hit for the economy suicide cheerleading.

  17. Jane & PKM says:

K, sing it! After the Bundy ‘associates’ killed two cops in cold blood in Las Vegas after an armed insurrection against the FBI and other LE, the 2nd Amendment whack job that shot up a concert venue and was armed with crap no sane person would accumulate and nobody ‘noticed’ either when he accumulated it or when he carried it into the casino/hotel. Yeah, patience with armed insurrectionist morons should be a little thinner than it is with LE. We all know all too well what happens should the ‘shooter’ be a child with a toy or a parent of color examining a toy in a department store. We need a federal government ready to address racism, armed idiots and legislations to eliminate all that soap. And, yes K, I will grant you our ‘own’ foreign policy that does even worse in our name using the military has to change.

    17
  18. The Surly Professor says:

Sandridge@7: You can condense much of the Nazi murder of the elderly and mentally ill using their term: “useless mouths”. The one thing that might keep it from happening here: the “euthanasia” program (AKA Operation T4) particularly targeted “idiots” and the “feebleminded”. It’s unlikely Trump or the Republicans would gut their core constituency.

[Yeah, I’m aware of the “could not happen here” trope, and how dangerous that thinking can be.]

    18
  19. There is a strain of sadism/authoritarialism that seems to cross contaminiate every institution that uses, worships violence as the end all be all of human debate.
It has been argued that some of the worse abuses by the military in Iraq was iniated by prison guards on loan or in the national guard whobrought their idea of unsuprevised or regulated abuse of prisoners from the hell holes they had created her in the US.
The increased view of the police as a quasi military force charged with keeping a disobedient populaace under control through the use of domination techniques, escalation of violence and demand for unquestioned obedience has been widely reported. This parelells the recycleing of military personel into law enforcement with the basis being that training in violence and a certain level of blood lust is what is “needed” in law enforcement.
Basicaly every institition that we have that requires a strict heirarchial authority structure and is called upon to use violence ha been contaminiated with this institionalized sadism.
Police, military, ICE, prison guards ( “private” prisons may be the worst) all have shown an increasingly reliance upon violence, torture and executions under the protective cover of authority, and the mantra of “just obeying orders”.
What is noticable is the high level of movement betweeen these institions of what seems to be the most problematic personell.
Small suggestion to help break the cycle.
Ban any one with military training from being hired in any capacity as in Law enforcement ( including ICE and prisson guards)’
Ban the ability of an individual to short circuit criminal abuse invetigations by resigning.
Any LEO who resigns while under any sort of investigation immediately and permanently loses LEO license and the right to even act as “private” muscle for any one, any where, any time. Plus they lose all pension right and other benefits.
Those individuals are also labeled as suffering from a mental disability (sadism) and are banned from owning or being around weapons.
Same for any military personel who are allowed to resign or given any sort of discharge that does not strip them of all benefits, pensions and hiring preference for anything.
This applies to superior (in rank) of those who use their “authority” to abuse others to see if they have the impression that bad behavior is condoned as long as it gets “results”.
The highest rank that “should” or even “could” have been aware or turned a blind eye are cashier stripped of all rank, pensions and benefits as well. Criminal investigations and prosecutions are pursued to the very end.
No exceptions for any reasons. No prosecutorial discretion.
The self reinforcement and spreading of these unacceptable behavior and beleifs must end.
The very nature of these institions are a natural home for that minority that is sick and, like the bad apple in a barrel, can ruin the entire force be it law enforcement, “intelligence (CIA, NSA) or military.
That means these instititions MUST have strong INDEPENDENT outside oversight by agency that these instititions are required to obey and cooperate with to the fullest degree under threat of criminal prosecution.
No ex military or police in any of these oversight instititions except perhaps “investigators” as some one who knows where the dark holes these vermin hide in.
Let Copwatch and the ACLU man the police oversight organizations.
Find similiar organizations to man military and intelligence agency oversight.
