  2. Where’s my Oscar? Where’s my Nobel? Where’s my Time Man of the Year?

‘Parasite’ Distributor Neon Rips Trump for Mocking Oscar Win: ‘He Can’t Read’ Subtitles

Edit: Neon only needed four words to tear Trump to shreds.
Trump mocked the Best Picture win at a February 20 rally in Colorado.
“How bad were the Academy Awards this year?” Trump asked his supporters at the event. “Did you see it? The winner is…a movie from South Korea! What the hell was that all about? We got enough problems with South Korea with trade. On top of that, they give him best movie of the year? Was it good? I don’t know. Let’s get ‘Gone With the Wind.’ Can we get ‘Gone With the Wind’ back, please?”

  4. Historically Rotten Politics

The Election (Part (Part 4. “Chairing the Member”) drawn by William Hogarth (1697-1764) and engraved by T. E. Nicholson

Edit: Hogarth’s four paintings pillory the much vaunted electoral system, the cornerstone of the parliamentary democracy of Great Britain, by exposing such matters as party violence, bribery, and corruption in the electoral practices, especially prior to the establishment of “Election Committees” under the terms of the Grenville Act (1770). The system of eighteenth-century England, the product of the Glorious Revolution and the defenestration of absolutist King James the Second (Stuart) of 1688, was hardly based on universal suffrage. Women, of course, could not vote, but neither could the majority of British subjects. The British voter was either a “freeman” or a “burgess,” each of whom could meet the property qualification of ten pounds.
Vote buying was common enough: Sykes and Rumbold, for example, were fined and imprisoned for bribery during the 1696 parliamentary elections, and an elector of Durham in 1803 was fined 500 pounds. Even as late as 1840, voting irregularities compelled the authorities to declare the elections for Cambridge and Ludlow void.

The whole rotten election “progress” culminates in the fourth and final scene, “Chairing the Candidate,” in which Hogarth graphs a raucous procession of flags and banners, a shambling brass band with insistent percussion, and the successful candidate’s rag-tag supporters, and then, hoisted precariously in a throne-like armchair, the new Member of Parliament himself. As Trussler and Roberts point out –

  5. “Million Dollar Loan”

“Lyrically, ‘Million Dollar Loan’ deals with a particularly tone deaf moment in Donald Trump’s ascent to the Republican nomination. While campaigning in New Hampshire last year, he attempted to cast himself as a self-made man by claiming he built his fortune with just a ‘small loan of a million dollars’ from his father.

Not only has this statement been proven to be wildly untrue, he was so flippant about it. It truly disgusted me. Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unworthy of the honor and responsibility of being President of the United States of America, and in no way, shape or form represents what this country truly stands for. He is beneath us.”

  6. Oh Dear… Lloyd Bank Swine is irritated to the point of changing party.

Sanders Says He ‘Welcomes Hatred of Crooks Who Destroyed Our Economy’ After Blankfein Suggests He May Vote Trump Over Bernie

Edit: ”I don’t like that at all,” the billionaire former Goldman Sachs CEO said of Sanders’ wealth tax proposal.

Blankfein, who has an estimated net worth of $1.3 billion, told FT that he is not rich, but “well-to-do.”
“I can’t even say ‘rich,'” said the former banker. “I don’t feel that way. I don’t behave that way.”
Blankfein’s past criticisms of Sanders earned the former banker a spot on the senator’s “anti-endorsement list” released last September.

“Lloyd Blankfein became a billionaire after his investment bank received an $824 billion taxpayer bailout from the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department, paid over $5.5 billion in fines for mortgage fraud, avoided paying any federal income taxes in 2008, and lectured Congress to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid,” reads Blankfein’s section on Sanders’ anti-endorsement page.

  7. Accusation of Russian interference for Sanders is probably the first shot of demented Donnie’s puppets now occupying seats on top of the US intelligence/ law enforcement agencies.
Expect them to use their positions as an extension of the rnc and the demented ones re-election in smearing any and all d candidates no matter what race.
Expect to see similar smears against AOC and other progressives.
And as usual the rank and file, in the name of “duty”, will jump up with a snappy salute and a yes sir trusting that just obeying orders will protect them from perjury charges or any other appropriate criminal charges.

    7
  8. Jane & PKM says:

K, expecting similar attacks on whoever will be the Democratic nominee, if it isn’t Senator Sanders. And, as you noted full blown smears against all Democrats. AOC seems to really scare the Republicons. Waiting, and certainly not holding my breath, on whether the DNC and establishment Dems make a decision on who they represent as in stepping up to defend Progressives under attack. Yeah him, where’s Chuck Schumer? He can’t lay in the bunker forever letting Speaker Pelosi take all the hits. Or, will he …

  9. Voter Alert: He knows but still has the “tude”

House Moderates, MSM, Oligarchs, GooP Senate mafia, DNC, DCCC, Deep State, 50 State Houses, Russians, Kool Aid Pitcher guy, Adelson, Kochs, Bumberg, Bezos, Obama, Healthcare industry, Wall St., Fossil fuel Inc., Saudi body choppers, Zionist sharpshooters, D.A.R., EU or Newer, Every banana republic in existence, N.R.A. Breitbart, racists, nazi white supremacists, anti abortionists, ELE investors looking for the short term dividends… etc.

    Bernie Sanders

    @BernieSanders

I’ve got news for the Republican establishment. I’ve got news for the Democratic establishment. They can’t stop us.

During a rally in Las Vegas Friday night on the eve of the Nevada Democratic caucus, Sen. Bernie Sanders mocked the establishment forces agonizing over and attempting to stop his campaign and the diverse grassroots movement fighting for higher wages, student debt cancellation, and Medicare for All.

“As you may have noticed lately, the establishment is getting a little nervous. ‘Oh my god, they’re putting together a multi-generational, multi-racial movement of millions of people!'” Sanders told the crowd at the “get out to caucus” event. “‘Oh my goodness, how can we stop them? How can we stop the workers who want higher wages? How can we stop the young people who want to go to college and not come out with debt? How can we stop the millions of people who understand that healthcare is a human right?'”

“So they’re getting nervous,” Sanders added. “But you know what? When we stand up together, they ain’t gonna stop us.”

Twitter suspends pro-Bloomberg accounts over ‘platform manipulation’

Edit: “We took enforcement action on about 70 accounts, which includes a combination of permanent suspensions and account challenges to verify ownership,” a Twitter spokeswoman said.

The action was first reported by the Los Angeles Times.

Twitter said the accounts violated its platform manipulation and spam policy, which prohibits coordination among accounts to amplify or disrupt conversation.

This can refer to creating several accounts to post duplicative content but also includes “coordinating with or compensating others to engage in artificial engagement or amplification, even if the people involved use only one account”.

“We ask that all of our deputy field organizers identify themselves as working on behalf of the Mike Bloomberg 2020 campaign on their social media accounts,” said Sabrina Singh, a Bloomberg campaign spokeswoman, adding that content “shared by staffers and volunteers to their network of friends and family” was “not intended to mislead anyone”.

The billionaire’s campaign, which has been pouring unparalleled amounts of money into online advertising, is hiring hundreds of digital organizers to support the candidate, including by pushing content to their own social media channels.

The Wall Street Journal reported that these organizers in California receive $2,500 a month to promote Bloomberg’s candidacy through actions such as posting on social media to their own networks.

This month, a paid partnership between the former New York mayor’s campaign and popular Instagram meme accounts pushed Facebook to announce it was allowing US-based political candidates to run branded or sponsored content on its social networking platforms.

  11. megasoid @9, it’s caucus day in NV. Expect it to be raucous. Good for Senator Sanders showing he can hit back. Even have to give Magic Mike some credit for an outstanding trolling of Donnie* – he had a huge and I mean bigly huge banner hung from one of the casinos declaring “Trump cheats, even at golf”

From NBC – Nevada canceled its Republican caucus to help Trump re-election bid. Openly admitted by NV GOP spox.

We’re leaving now and hope to observe some good news among Democrats.

“Blankfein insists he is “well-to-do,” not rich. “I can’t even say “rich,’” he insists.”
Yet I am sure if city wanted to raise taxes for a teacher in NYC to earn say, for the sake of discussion, $100,000 which I expect is near to what “living wage” in NYC would be he would be out scolding those teachers trying to get “rich” on his tax dollars.

    12
  13. Jane & PKM says:

We’ve returned from the caucus. Very small precincts in north west NV. Polite group, congenial; no discernible Democratic divide. Everyone was happy to be there and of one mind – defeat Donnie*. Was wrong about one thing; thought it would be a near 50-50 Sanders/Warren split. Buttigieg (boo^) and Klobuchar (hiss^), (^just kidding, we played nice with the others) received modest support. But have no clue as to the big numbers which will be coming out of Las Vegas, or even Carson City or Reno compared to our little precincts. And, I don’t want to talk about the eastern sliver of the state bordering Utah any more than Ms. JJ likes east Texas.

Best for Democrats news I heard Friday and again today was that the early vote nearly exceeded the total vote from 2016.

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews Suggests Four More Years of Trump Might Be Better for Democratic Party Than Sanders Winning White House

Edit: “This is what happens when you and your network are in a complete panic-riddled meltdown,” said Intercept journalist Jeremy Scahill. “You say the quiet part out loud on national TV.”

As Sen. Bernie Sanders appeared headed for a decisive victory Saturday in the Nevada caucuses, MSNBC host Chris Matthews pondered whether President Donald Trump’s re-election might be better for the Democratic establishment than the Vermont senator’s multiracial, multigenerational movement taking over the party.

“I’m wondering if Democratic moderates want Bernie Sanders to be President?” said Matthews. “Maybe that’s too exciting a question to raise. Do they want Bernie to take over the Democratic Party in perpetuity? Maybe they’d rather wait 4 years and put in a Democrat that they like.”

Matthews, who said on February 7 that he feared a Sanders presidency would result in mainstream pundits being executed in Central Park, made the remarks about 37 minutes before the caucuses began at noon Pacific time.
The remarks from Matthews, an MSNBC stalwart, were not the only instance of the network taking a jaundiced view of what was shaping up to be a big day for Sanders. Anchor Chris Jansing, reporting from Las Vegas, appeared to give a deep sigh at results showing large support for the Vermont senator among voters of color.

“Come on my fellow journalists!” tweeted Sanders press secretary Briahna Joy Gray. “Let’s try to keep it together!”

  17. “That’s Called Electability”: Diverse Coalition Propels Bernie Sanders to Big Win in Nevada

“That’s not just a savvy coalition for winning the Nevada caucuses, it’s how Bernie Sanders becomes president. Face it, establishment Democrats—it’s his party now.”

Edit: This is a developing story… Check back for possible updates…

Sen. Bernie Sanders scored a decisive victory in the Nevada Democratic presidential caucus on Saturday, a win powered by a remarkably strong grassroots operation across the state and a diverse coalition of support.

Fox News was the first network to call the race for Sanders, followed by NBC, which declared Sanders the winner Saturday evening as he held a more than 25 percentage point lead over former Vice President Joe Biden with just over 4% of precincts officially reporting.

“We won again! 3 for 3. And our vote margin continues to grow, while we expand our diverse coalition,” tweeted Faiz Shakir, Sanders’ campaign manager. “Awesome job by our Nevada team. Now let’s go win South Carolina!”

Sanders wiped out the rest of the Democratic field among Latinos and young voters, according to entrance polling, and also won among among middle-aged voters, voters with and without college degrees, men and women, voters from union and non-union households, and self-identified liberals and moderates.

The diversity of Nevada, said MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki, proved “to be Sanders’ strength.”

“What do you call it when you’re strong in every demographic group including age, race, and class? I think that’s called electability,” tweeted Sanders national press secretary Briahna Joy Gray.

The Washington Post provided a graphic showing the groups candidates led by more than 6 percentage points in entrance polls: view chart:

Jennifer Medina of the New York Times reported that the leadership of Nevada’s powerful Culinary Workers Union “urged members to vote for anyone other than Sanders because of his ‘Medicare for All’ plan, including in texts this morning.”

“Many rank-and-file members of the Culinary Union voted for Sanders anyway,” Medina reported. “It looks like Sanders did well at caucuses for casino workers on the Strip.”

Monica Smith, a Culinary member since 1987 and a server at the Bellagio, told Buzzfeed that she caucused for Sanders out of concern for those without union-negotiated health insurance.

“We have so many people that have walked that picket line, blood sweat and tears, for us,” said Smith. “We’re going to be here to protect it, but I worry about other people that aren’t protected by unions. How do they get healthcare? What’s the dollar amount that they have to go through, do they have to worry about not being able to go to a hospital?”

Dustin Guastella and Connor Kilpatrick wrote for the socialist outlet Jacobin Saturday that Sanders’ blowout win in Nevada shows “he has a working-class base committed to fundamentally transforming our radically unequal political and economic system.”

“Bernie’s staunch anti-establishment outsider appeal and his platform focused on workers’ issues is winning non-partisans, new voters, young voters, and working-class immigrants,” they wrote. “That’s not just a savvy coalition for winning the Nevada caucuses, it’s how Bernie Sanders becomes president. Face it, establishment Democrats—it’s his party now.”

As results of the Nevada caucus trickled in Saturday, Sanders didn’t mention his early lead during a rally in Texas, a crucial Super Tuesday state. Instead, he delivered a fiery speech railing against greedy insurance companies and vowing to transform America’s political and economic systems.

  18. Jane & PKM says:

megasoid, we’ve been ROFL at some of the punditry. FFS It was a combined caucus with early voting available and lots of hand tabulating. Doors opened 10am for a 12:00 start; smaller precincts were done ~1:30, while larger precincts were still at it. No later than 2pm local, 5 EST cable news was in full whine. Must grill their chops in all the primary states with polls closing 7-8ish. Senator Sanders was declared the winner before 8 EST. No system is perfect, but that seems efficient to me.

LOL A certain MSNBC host is reported to have been apoplectic. Some people just hate paying their fair share of taxes. Bring back the Eisenhower rates or close the loopholes and they’ll be doing the crash of 1929 backflips out of windows.

  19. Sanders wins Nevada caucuses, takes national Democratic lead
    Slide show:

Edit: After the chaos of Iowa’s caucuses, there were concerns about Nevada’s similar setup. But no major problems were in sight.
In a show of confidence, Sanders left Nevada early to rally supporters in Texas, which offers one of the biggest delegate troves in just 10 days on Super Tuesday. The progressive senator told cheering supporters in El Paso that Trump is “a pathological liar running a corrupt administration.”

  20. Jane & PKM says:

How afraid is Cadet Fake Bone Spurs and how low does the RNC bow to him? You decide. It seems NV Republicons are having a state primary 6/9/2020. “Top” federal office on the ballot is the House. Not even a space on their ballot to write in a candidate for president.

In the good, better, great news department the ***king moron* was in Las Vegas at the Convention Center where there is no way he could have missed Magic Mike’s most magnificent banner at the Bellagio casino trolling him*. The giant digital billboard is down the Strip from Donnie’s* own hotel (which has no gaming license ergo no gambling) where the ***king moron* is staying while in Las Vegas. Who builds a non-gaming hotel on prime Strip real estate?

“Donald Trump lost the popular vote”
    “Donald Trump’s wall fell over”
“Donald Trump has declared bankruptcy six times”
“Donald Trump lost the popular vote”
“Donald Trump went broke running a casino”

That last banner has to leave a burn mark in Las Vegas. All of Nevada since casinos are in most counties. It’s total playground level taunting, but hey it’s on Donnie* and he* has to be busting a vein or two.

    21
  21. Jane & PKM @ 21 Tomorrow’s headlines will give pause to anyone seeing that giant billboard, I hope, and thinking, why did the ass go through that stupid Ukraine quid pro quo thing?

His paranoid delusions started flowering like a conniving Marx Bros. movie: “I’m all scared of sleepy Joe, so I’ll hold up cash appropriations to some Ukrainian schmuck and flush foreign service and military careers down the crapper while making life hell for the entire govt. and the already miserable population at the same time.
