Woo! Woo!

Republican Representative Aaron Schock is resigning.

Because he’s probably going to jail.

Illinois Rep. Aaron Schock resigned Tuesday, less than 12 hours after POLITICO raised questions about tens of thousands of dollars in mileage reimbursements he received for his personal vehicle.

Schock billed the federal government and his campaign for logging roughly 170,000 miles on his personal car between January 2010 and July 2014. But when he sold that Chevrolet Tahoe in July 2014, it had only roughly 80,000 miles on the odometer, according to public records obtained by POLITICO under Illinois open records laws. The documents, in other words, indicate he was reimbursed for 90,000 miles more than his car was ever driven.

No wonder Republicans think that government doesn’t work.  They cheat it.

Can I have his office?

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

Be social and share!

You sure you WANT his office? That red paint is gonna take three coats to cover.

This has got to hurt-the nation’s fittest congressvarmint isn’t fit and doesn’t fit in DC with the rest of the ethically challenged weasels. OUCH!!!

  3. RepubAnon says:

    How schocking!

Of course, like Judge Roy’s son’s recent arrest on drug charges (3rd time), it’s probably all a liberal media plot by those leftists in law enforcement. (/snark)

  4. SomedayGirl says:

Nooooooooooo!!!! He and his Downton decorating and his personal “photographer” and his audacious grifting were absolutely the only entertaining thing happening in Congress. Or, put another way, the only thing happening in Congress.

No Michele, now no Aaron. Life’s not fair.

Three coats, my toenails. They’re gonna have to take that puppy down to the drywall.

  6. I’m just not believing that he resigned just over some minor financial shenanigans. Cooking the books is almost required for GOP politicians.

My guess is that we are about to see some revealing photographs of Aaron and his “personal photographer.” Republicans can easily overlook a little grifting here and there, but that homo stuff is a deal breaker.

  7. Schock’s use of shell companies & campaign funds to purchase land from his own business partner as well as mortgage hanky panky via banker buddy campaign donors to do the underhanded deal … as revealed Monday in press expose’ = resignation today? Bankers are silent & hiding. Resignation for Schock means he gets to keep his tax funded pension & the ethics investigation ceases.

Did the Teahadists discover that Aaron is reincarnated? One of our friends tipped us off that he is “so 70s disco,” which predates his birth.

    8
  9. @Mark, good point.

But I do think that he is being shunned as easy pigeon. It is not an embarrassment over financial shenanigans. It is embarassment that he did such a poor job of cooking the books and covering the trail.

And this way they can say, “we made an example out of him…” for their own PR. Plus a hope that their accountant does a better job than his–or that everyone keeps stirring that pot and missing a need to look into one’s own.

Kilz primer will cover that hideous red paint right up. No worries.

    @Star
Yep. Cooking the books is acceptable, nay expected. Getting caught cooking the books cause a raised eyebrow and counts as a strike against . But, Even the merest hint of non-heterosecshual interest and you be dead to them.

    11
  12. Wait… What about his ginormous …… podium?

    12
  13. @Star, good point as well.

Schock is a cocky, arrogant sumbitch, and I am sure he rubbed more than a few egos the wrong way. Failed to be properly defferential to old power.

I am sure that more than a few in the GOP are happy to see him fall.

Unreported free stuff from donors? Hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Cost of cooked books to taxpayers? Hundreds of Thousands of dollars.

Sewing up the lead role in the prisoner production of “Oliver!” at FCI Terre Haute?

    Priceless.

I’m sorry, I just can’t believe this. It isn’t believable. It strains credulity beyond the breaking point.

There is just no way on God’s Green Earth that Politico could or would commit a genuine act of journalism.

This has to be from The Onion.

    16
  17. How fiscally conservative of him….

Time for the GOP to turn over some more rocks to find a replacement for him…

    17
  18. Aaron wouldn’t be called brightest bulb in the pack.

The boy put his whole grifted existence on instagram.
His personal photographer was too good at showing Aaron here, there and everywhere—- that I’m guessing some started wondering how in the flip he got everywhere and who was paying for it.

  19. Lorraine in Spring says:

Aww, I’m so happy for Aaron and his frien… partn… um… photographer. Now, without the GOP leash, he can finally make all his dreams come true.

My wife’s sister and her husband (both of whom I really like despite the fact that he seems to have Libertopian sympathies) live just outside of Peoria. I don’t know how this will play with them but it tickles me purely pink.

    20
  21. Just knew this was going to happen sooner rather than later. He couldn’t make up his mind what he wanted to be: a rock star or a Congressman, and I think this country came up winners with the choice that he made!

    21
  22. maryelle says:

Aaron was just schocked to find out all the goodies weren’t there just for the taking. His expense accounts may have the IRS taking a closer look at his tax returns, and we all know what happened to Al Capone when that happened. Hope his personal photographer waits for him to get out of prison.

Sorry to see yet another Republican star fade away–NOT! But he did fit right in with the GOTP, what with being crooked nearly from birth…

  25. Just proving one of my many truisms. Do you want a politician that steps out on his/her spouse or one that cheats on his/her constituents? Obviously, we would want someone honest on both counts, but I’d take the former over the latter. All the more reason to have publicly funded elections. These varmits never stop campaigning.

    25
  26. He proved one thing for sure that republicans can’t do budgets for the country and he cheats. I like him and it’s to bad things are going down hill for him. Now if they can send Jessie Jackson Jr to jail for practically doing the same things then they should send this young man. We shall see.

  27. Hey Republicans — THIS is what “entitlement” looks like.
