What Is This? Third Grade? UPDATED

October 23, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

You know how Republicans are always whining that the President won’t “negotiate” with them?  And how he’s so mean to them?

Take a look at this Facebook entry from Dick Durban.

And for those of you without Facebook —

I do not know any answer to that kind of insult other than, “Oh, such Noel Coward-esque wit!”   Or, that failing, perhaps, “I know you are but what am I?”

I know their purpose is to make him the angry black man, but I swear to God in Heaven above that instead they have made me the Snickering White Woman.

Names, Durban, I want names.

UPDATE:  The White House is saying that it didn’t happen.  Hummm ….

Thanks to Nancy for the heads up.

  1. My guess would be Cantor, right before he walked out of the meeting.

  2. Marge Wood says:

This is pathetic. There are plenty of folks I don’t want to see: Perry, Abbott, Cruz. I go out of my way not to see them. But President Obama? Perfect he ain’t, but he’s doing the best he can and I’d be thrilled to see him up close.

  3. UmptyDump says:

If the Congressional News correspondents fail to follow up on this, they’re missing a huge story. That name is gonna leak. Let’s see who finds out first.

  4. Marge Wood says:

Yeah UmptyDump. Getting more radical by the day around here. Remember the Alamo, sure, but Remember the Folks Whose Food Stamps Got Cut From $238 a month to $15 a month. Faux News did a great job din’t they.

  5. An on-going insult is that the Boner has refused all the invites to State Dinners he’s received since becoming Speaker. People, people, people, it has long been the etiquette rule that you DO NOT refuse an invitation issued by the White House (for formal occasions, that is) unless you are on your deathbed–or maybe your kid is getting married at the same time. The Rethugs have been dissing this Prez since day one.

I’m with JJ–I just hate these people down to the bone.

  6. VeeGee in VT says:

While I, as a private citizen, might enjoy meeting President Obama, they have an effin’ JOB TO DO. That is to keep the country running and effect change through consensus, not just holding their breath and refusing to play. If they detest government that much, why would they want to be part of it? Oh, yeah, pay checks, perks, free healthcare, cushy retirements, I forgot.

  7. Don A in Pennsyltucky says:

It has been getting more and more difficult for me to listen to the news on the radio — every time I hear Itchy-Mitch or Johhny B Orange say anything it’s like fingernails on a chalkboard. In fact, I have a tough time listening to any of those clown-faced twerps — it started with GWB and Darth Cheney and has been getting worse every year. I thought it would get better for a while when the Democratic Party had the White House, Senate, and House of Reps but for some reason the curators of the public airwaves kept making me listen to that Klondike Kardashian loser.

    7
  8. How childish, and petty is this?

I’m with you JJ…. I want names. I want to know who the people are that have such a lack of respect……. for the office, never mind the officeholder.

Durbin has finally put it out there…. there is no such thing as “working with the Republicans”. Post-Bi-Partainship. Never has been. Never will be.

  9. Marge Wood says:

What irritates me the most the last year or two is the two famous brothers who are busily buying their way into government at every level. It makes it hard for govt. officials to do their jobs when they mostly have to raise money to keep their offices open. How about some campaign finance reform and some rules that see that all the regular folks are able to do and have what they need? How about some courtesy?

    9
  10. So, where is Jon Stewart when we need him? Wash Post headlines say he’s Obama’s biggest enemy.

Marge ~ Those Kansas Bros put up $3.5 Million for a mayor of a small town in Iowa. Either Coralville is critical to some biz venture of theirs or they’re grooming some guy for higher office. Go figure?!

    10
  11. I wish Biden had been there. I believe he would have decked the guy. And Rahm, for all his flaws, would have gnawed off his fingers.

    11
  12. There appears to be some push back on this story. First, it appears that Boehner and Cantor are denying this event http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/boehner-cantor-refute-durbin-s-claim-about-white-house-meeting

“The speaker certainly didn’t say that, and does not recall anyone else doing so,” Michael Steel, spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), told the National Review on Wednesday.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-VA) spokesperson also said that Cantor does not remember anyone saying that to Obama

Second, the White House is denying this story http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/white-house-on-durbin-s-quote-it-did-not-happen

    12
  13. Don A in Pennsyltucky says:

The White House has to deny it because even though the House is populated with dog-crap Republicans, the White House still needs to work with them. So we’re not likely to ever know for sure. But “I don’t remember” is standard Washingtonese for “you won’t get me to tell the truth on that one”.

    13
  14. Durbin is standing behind his story http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/durbin-stands-by-his-anecdote

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) is sticking with his story that a House GOP leader told President Obama “I cannot even stand to look at you” during a meeting over the federal government shutdown earlier this month.

“Senator Durbin stands by his comments,” Max Gleicshman, Durbin’s spokesperson, told TPM in an email.

    14
  15. GOP, have you no decency?

    15
  16. Those hate-filled hearts keep spewing.
Time to put a stake in ’em by fixing Obamacare enrollment, immigration reform and protecting entitlements from those Repug wolves. They finally saw how elections have consequences in their lower than low polls.

    16
  17. I’ve had the privilege of teaching 3rd graders for the past 12 years (except for the year i was laid-off…thanks Perry!)

Third-graders start off the year so immature and petty but then they really blossom into wonderful kind-hearted kids around this time every year—unlike the DC crowd!

    17
  18. @Kyle Thanks for all the links. This is very interesting. What purpose would Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin have in making that story up and posting it on Facebook? He had to know it would attract all kinds of attention. And now he’s standing by his comments while the GOP leaders feign outrage. And yet, how outraged were they when Gov. Jan Brewer wagged her finger in Obama’s face? They applauded that. I remember thinking that I truly disliked Bush, but if a Democratic governor had wagged her finger in President Bush’s face, I would have considered that way out of line and said so. Disrespecting “libtards” and “Demon-rats” is the name of the game with the Repubs. I believe Durbin and I hope we hear who said that to Obama.

    18
  19. The lower their polls go, the higher the bigotry level rises among the Rethugs, as if that is gonna solve one damn thing! So some congressvarmint of reddish glo can’t stand to look at the President of the U.S. of A. Whoopee feckin dooo! Its time for the red glo guy to cut bait. Even if he leaves in a state of dugeon in the middle of his term, he will have a really good chance of ending up at some lobbying outfit with a glo to match his. Ten to one that is the only reason the F**t actually ran for office anyway — a cushy job for the rest of his life as a lobbyist.

    19
  20. RepubAnon says:

I’m not sure I agree with Senator Durbin. If someone said that to me, I’d have no problem having an honest conversation with them.

It wouldn’t be very polite, and would likely include many words that Momma wouldn’t approve of – but it would be very honest.

    20
  21. I don’t even have anything smart to say…that is an appalling story. I am SO SICK of people claiming to be important behaving like ignorant hayseeds. It is very discouraging to live with neoconfederates coming out of the woodwork. My mom was an Adlai fan, a feminist, a Unitarian and a social worker. She was unabashedly liberal. She would not believe what is going on now– all those things she and my generation thought were finally won– all shot to hell, and the country being destroyed from within by idiots and immoral, unethical scalawags…

    21
  22. I know you would be shocked but Harry Reid says it was Pete Sessions from your neck in the woods

    22
  23. Word is today that Texas Rep. Pete Sessions is the source of the horribly disrespectful insult to President Obama.
