Just as I was headed to bed …

Flynn resigns.

Not good enough.  He needs to go to prison.

  1. This is a start. Let’s keep those heads rolling.

    1
  2. Damn good start. Only the best people. I remember. Apparently only the best people last 20ish days on the job. New record. Sad.

    2
  3. Patreaus is going for an interview tomorrow, no word yet on whether he gave his probation officer 72 hours notice. On the plus side he only has 2 more months left on his probation sentence for revealing classified documents. So super good!

    3
  4. A VERY Happy Valentine’s to all.

    4
  5. There needs to be, at the very least, an investigation.
Do you think the republicans will
have the cojones to authorize one?

    5
  6. JAKvirginia says:

HEY CHAFFETZ! GOT AN INVESTIGATION FOR YOU, SWEETIE! YOU MAN ENOUGH TO TAKE IT?

    We’ll see won’t we?

    6
  7. Tilphousia says:

JAK, you are spot on. The slimy little quisling was booed out of his last town hall meeting with chants of “your last term!” How many constituents does it take to get slimy rethugs off their collective butts and doing their jobs? All of them! Flynn needs to be prosecuted and jailed but don’t hold your breath. Until rethugs know their jobs are on the line they won’t act. We must get the vote out and retake the Senate and House. We can. We will. We must to save our country from the cancer that is the mangled apricot hellbeast and is cult of the obscene.

    7
  8. They ALL need to go to prison.

  9. Wally Plahutnik says:

Yup, BetrayUS is being considered & Appalachian Trail Sandford is still a Very Serious Person, yadda, yadda. On our side Sptzer and Wiener stayed on the shelf long after they turned rotten. Considering St Ted of Hyannisport, what do you have to do to be disqualified in American politics? Oh yeah, I remember, you have to not believe in an invisible sky wizard that controls the outcome of sports ball games.
I’m voting Atheist Party next election.

    9
  10. ***What do you have to do to be disqualified in American politics?***

    If you’re a Republican, nothing.

    10
  11. Highly unlikely that Republicans will support a senate investigation…at least before they decide to impeach 45. FBI is another matter.

If a formal investigation/hearing is held, chances increase that something will reveal 45 approved or encouraged Flynn’s calls to the ambassador–or that Russia can/is blackmailing 45.

I do think there are a couple of voices in GOP that will advocate for legal proceedings–like McCain. Being in Russia’s pocket outrages him.

    11
  12. I’m not much on the death penalty, but in this case I could go for a public beheading.

    12
  13. Remember Sally Yates? She’s the messenger that Donnie shot in an attempt to save Flynn.

When contacting our Congress varmints demanding full disclosure of ALL of the Donnie stench, it might not hurt to remind them that it was the cover-up that cost Nixon. It would be such a shame to ‘lose’ Mitch, Lyin’ Ryan, Shifty Chaffetz, and a few special snowflakes due to covering for Donnie.

  14. Not having seen the transcript or heard the tape of the conversation between Russian officials and Lt. Gen. Flynn, I don’t want to jump to any conclusions. Daddy always tried to warn me about ” mouth in high gear with brain in neutral “.
There should be an investigation of this act but, who should conduct it presents a new question.
Congress? doubtful they can get anything done in a timely manner. Not with each member spending twenty or thirty minutes posturing and shoring up their own ideology and presumptions before asking a five second question which they don’t want to hear the answer.
The FBI? Recent actions by it’s Director has undermined their credibility and political neutrality.
Special Prosecutor? remember two names Patrick Fitzgerald and Ken Starr. Could be good could be a disaster.

What is the actual crime here? Criminal prosecution and conviction relies on a violation of black letter letter law in this country. The Logan Act has been bandied about. This is a 218 year old law that bars unauthorized private initiatives in the realm of foreign policy. It has achieved one indictment and no conviction since being placed on the books. Could it be there to provide plausible deniability, a useful tool for any administration.
Is there a conspiracy to cover up prior criminal acts of hacking that had an effect on the 2016 election? How do you prove this a jury beyond a reasonable doubt?
I’m all for nailing criminals but let’s do it right and not end up with egg on on a collective face.

  15. jan, I think we’re past public beheading. But in this case I could go for the stocks. Lock him to a board in the public square– maybe tour a bunch of public squares– and let people throw stuff at him. Not so much garbage and ordure in the streets as formerly, so we may have to bring our own.

    And THEN the treason trial.
