  1. It’s great that they can help people who need help.

I wanted to share this too:

There are an estimated 250,000 Muslims who live across the Houston area, one of the most diverse cities in the country. Their mosques and charitable organizations were some of the first to open their doors during the disaster to offer supplies and shelter to their neighbors [regardless of beliefs]….

Muslim families on Friday were celebrating the Eid al-Adha festival, one of Islam’s holiest days, coinciding with the hajj, or pilgrimage, to the Islamic holy city of Mecca. Part of the holiday’s mission is giving to the poor, and Muslims traditionally slaughter livestock and offer the meat to those less fortunate….

Islamic leaders said that despite large crowds arriving for prayer, it was important to them that hurricane evacuees feel welcome to stay.

“They’re No. 1. They will not be disturbed, they will not be displaced, they will not be moved,” said Khan, who operates the Champions mosque and several others that are providing shelter to Muslims and people of other faiths. He said the evacuees took precedence over his congregants. “If they have to pray in the parking lot, they’ll pray in the parking lot.”

  2. Boy, if it weren’t for floods and fires, I think I’d have to try out their terrific looking meals!

  3. That Other Jean says:

JJ, how long are they going to keep feeding people displaced by Harvey? How are they doing on funds? I’m sure I’m not the only one who would be happy to donate to them again.

  4. Juanita Jean Herownself says:

Hey Other Jean – I will ask Melanie this afternoon. I’m certain that at some point they will need to go back to making a living. I think they are fine through this weekend. I may have another group that is going to post a list of things they need on Amazon – school starts back soon and you can go shopping for the kids and have it delivered.

  8. Diane Duffy-Patyjewicz says:

Would you put the link where we can donate up on this here professional political organization maybe once a week for the next couple of weeks at least?
I did not bookmark the page. It’s easier for me to donate every week.
And I would like to do so.
It drives me crazy to think of people going hungry.
Also, if you find some other places that we could donate to that would be great.
Sorry to ask this of you, but I trust your judgement about places that will use the money to help people.
Or just once more and I will bookmark the page.
    Thanks,
    Diane

  9. Now this is living the Gospel! Bless them and their descendants for all eternity. And keep the whole and safe right now. It looks as if there is another damn hurricane in the Gulf playing too close to the Texas shore. May they be safe and have the strength to once again feed the unending multitudes.
