Tillerson? Not So Fast.

December 12, 2016 By: El Jefe Category: Trump

Insiders at Politico are reporting this morning that the Tillerson nomination is already in serious trouble mainly due to his ties with Vladimir Putin as we discussed this weekend.  Marco Rubio is apparently begging the Cheeto transition team for another body, and bipartisan resistance to the nomination is rising.  It seems that all this attention on CJ’s ties (and other members of the inner circle’s) ties to the Russian despot is finally starting to get traction.  McCain has even issued a statement questioning the wisdom of this nomination.

I know, I know, let’s not get our hopes up.

  1. Forget about the nominees, the #1 problem child, Drumpf, is the one who should not be confirmed…by the electoral college which was supposed to save us from just such an unfit president.

  2. charles r. phillips says:

maryelle, perhaps the extra scrutiny of Tillerson will expose more of Trump’s perfidity, and so aid his political demise.

The more minions you expose, the more likely Trump will fall of his own accord. Let’s call that plan A.

  3. This McNasty quote creates a logic bomb for me. I spose even the vilest nastiest broken clock is right twice a day. Problem is accurately determining exactly when those two “rights” happen.

  4. It’s good news/bad news time:
1] The good news: Trump often floats a name, then sits back to see how it is received. He did it, for instance, with Christie — and suddenly Christie was relegated to nada-land. He did it with Giuliani — and Giuliani **ahem** ‘withdrew his name from consideration.’
And now there’s Tillerson, a man who is ‘friends’ [as far as such folks can be said to HAVE friends] with the man who stands accused of a] invading our electoral process and b] putting his thumb on the scale for CJ. If his pattern holds, we might get us a real, qualified human being as secretary of state.
    Um – OK – it’s a stretch, I know. But a girl can dream.

2] The bad news: CJ enjoys throwing bombs just to watch them go BOOM! So he might not back down this time. Especially since he does SO want to appoint Vladimir Putin to his cabinet. . . .

    God help us.

As to the electoral college not confirming him — I’m not sure we wouldn’t be out of the frying pan and into the fire. The ones who have issued statements have all floated names of people who either didn’t run at all or who fell out of the running during the primary process. Not one seems to have entertained the idea of voting for the person who actually – you know – got the majority of the votes of the American people. Not one.

Very unfortunately, the one ‘logical’ person to take CJ’s place would be **gulp** Mike Pence — the guy who hates everyone and who is a whale of a lot smarter than CJ.

  5. I really can’t see any of these billionaires actually doing the divestment/blind trust thing, no matter how much money they plan to pillage. The Prez isn’t required to, but the other offices are. I think if the Congressional committees really push on divestment and disclosure, the line of available oligarchs will grow considerably shorter.

I know, it didn’t stop Cheney and his Halliburton holdings. But these guys actually run or own the damned companies, so it’s much more blatant.

  6. So Tillerson has done business with the Ruskies. Bleepin’ hell! Hillary knew the first name of al the different heads of state, the names of the wives, kids, dogs and what newspaper was on the bottom of the birdcage. They were on her Christmas card list. Tillerson really does not have bragging rights on this!

  7. ,That Other Jean says:

Isn’t “Bye, Bye Birdie” in production again? Maybe Trump could revise the chorus and lead us in a sing-along to “We Love You, Conrad?”
    “(Girls) We love you, Vladimir”

    Oh, yes we do
    We love you, Vladimir,
    and will be true.
    When you’re not near us
    We’re blue.
    Oh, Vladimir, we love you!

  8. And I’m certain Senator McCain will stand his ground on this. Hah! How can a guy who stood up to North Vietnamese torture always give in to Republicans he as denounced as unfit?

    8
  9. Didn’t McCain–and other Repubs–once question the wisdom of the Donald Trump nomination?

They have since all crawled into bed with him. Guess we’d better hope for their sake that Putin has warm feet, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

  10. It’s not a question now. The Exxon A$$hole is his nominee. He has plans to make a yuuuuuge deal with Pukin for drilling in several areas of Russia.

The problem with the Cheetoh-faced Ferret-wearing Shitgibbon Cocksplat and his pals is not simply that they are acquainted with Vlady and his pals. They have $millions and $billions at stake in Russia and that’s a yuuuge problem. I wish they did actually know even half the people Hillary knows around the world.

  11. OK. So Rexie T. is tight with the Ruskies. Does Trump realize that Russia is not the only country the Sec/State will have to deal with? There are other nations that have had a really rough go with Russia, some of them have even been invaded by Russia in recent years. How are those Prime Ministers or whatever going to react to Rexie? Very, very carefully or just plain not at all. End of story for our influence with those countries.
