This is Fun and Fixing to Get Funner

You folks from foreign states probably don’t know David Dewhurst but he’s hot snot in Texas.

Dewhurst is the Lt. Governor, known as Gov Lite around here, and ran against Crazy Ted Cruz in the Republican primary for Senate. And lost.  Big time.

Now in the never ending story of Republican greed knowing no boundaries, Dewhurst’s campaign made an announcement.

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst’s campaign manager is under criminal scrutiny, suspected of stealing at least $600,000 — and possibly more than $1 million — from the Republican’s political accounts over the past several years.

Kenneth “Buddy” Barfield, a longtime GOP consultant who most recently managed Dewhurst’s failed run for the U.S. Senate, has been accused of falsifying documents to the Texas Ethics Commission that overstated the cash in Dewhurst’s state campaign committee by hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Republicans will not only steal from you, they will steal from each other.

I did find way too much amusement in some of Buddy Barfield’s tweets —

Yeah, and I’m stealing most of it.

5) Buy Buddy Barfield a new Lexus.

Buddy Barfield knows where a lot of bodies are buried and if some of Dewhurts’s state money was funneled into his federal race, this could be more fun than a sock hop.

But don’t worry about ole Buddy.  He’ll come out just fine.

Barfield is a political consultant based in Austin who has advised and worked for various Republican officeholders and candidates over the past quarter-century, including former U.S. Rep. Jim Collins of Dallas and one-time GOP nominee for governor Clayton Williams.

Also a real estate investor, Barfield owns a 6,000-square-foot home in an upscale neighborhood west of the University of Texas campus in Austin. The home, purchased in 2000, is valued at more than $1.5 million by the Travis Central Appraisal District.

Texas politics – it’s a blood sport.

  3. I am an outsider, but I didn’t think that at Texas politician needed to resort to outright theft given all the, uh, freedom that the law allows for politicians.

  4. JJ,

I read about this earlier today – just waitin’ for you to pick up on it~Great post, as always.

When will AG begin prosecutin’ this thief?

Great way to end year of idiocy in Texas politickin’.

  5. Damn straight it’s the Blood Sport of Texas. It used to be chicken fighting, but that’s now illegal. It used to be Longhorn football, but the less said about the recent performances, the better.

Since the lies were also sent to the Feds in the race with Cruz, there is a chance this will fall into the US Attorney system rather than that silly good ol’ boy, Texas Attorney General.

  6. Docterry, it’s not a case of need. It’s a case of competition. If other thieves are just taking advantage of the, uh, freedom, the winner just has to go that next step beyond. You wanna win, don’t you?

Reminds me of a statement I once heard on NPR’s On The Money show. The jerk being interviewed actually said “If we allowed CEOs to earn more, they wouldn’t feel they had to steal”. And the interviewer didn’t call him on it. Haven’t listened to the program since.

If it was about need, they’d have stopped a long way back.

  7. I’ll be damned- Jim Greer in FL is fixin to go one trial for similar sins..and his little friend Marco Rubio may have to testify, cause he used the GOP Gold Car for some personal goodies!
When he found out he was a kochboi and could run for Senate- he and his little other friend waltzed out on their Tallahassee mortgage…What is it with the GOP and spending other people’s money??? Do they have a school for that?

    6) Move “5” to #1. Buddy takes his cut off the top.

  9. “Rob Johnson, a spokesman for the lieutenant governor, said Thursday that Dewhurst was “shocked and dismayed that a former senior trusted adviser would steal from the campaign account for his own personal gain. The proper authorities have been contacted and we will work with them and trust that the matter will be handled appropriately.””
According to legend, Willie Sutton said he robbed banks because “That’s where the money is”.
Our political campaigns today are nothing but big piles of money. What should surprise us is that more of it isn’t being stolen [or should we say diverted for more personal gain, because in my mind it’s money that’s already been scammed. ‘Vote for me and I’ll change things’.]

Susan, I’m just surprised more of em havent been caught yet, I’m pretty sure the whole cabal is rife with dishonesty!

  11. What about Howard Wolf the slimey Fulbright & Jaworski lawyer (and Dewhurst’s best friend) who is the campaign treasurer who signed off on all of this by his signature that the records were accurate? I believe that lawyers always say it’s your responsibility to read what you sign. Somebody gonna hold this no count shyster accountable?
