There Are Some Things I’d Never Do – Even for Money – And Rand Paul is Pretty Much At The Top Of That List

August 28, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

So you wondered how Rand Paul got all that support in Iowa that was supposed to go to Rick Perry?  Cash.

Screen Shot 2014-08-27 at 7.04.28 PMFormer Iowa state senator Kent Sorenson pled guilty on Wednesday to endorsing former Congressman Ron Paul’s campaign in exchange for secret payments and then lying about the payoff to investigators. In particular, he admitted “one count of causing a federal campaign committee to falsely report its expenditures to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and one count of obstruction of justice in connection with the concealed expenditures.”

In all fairness, no one is saying that Rand Paul the actual person is involved in this.  However, two of his top people, like his deputy campaign manager and the head of his 2012 Presidential race, were very much involved.

Wanna know how much the payoff was?  $25,000.

You know, I don’t mind my politicians being for sale.  Hell, everybody is for sale.  What I mind is that they’re for sale so damn cheap.

Now here’s the very fun part:

The plea bargain though does prevent Sorenson from facing prosecution for allegations previously been paid in secret to support Michele Bachmann’s campaign before jumping ship to back Paul and guarantees that his wife will not face criminal charges as well.

Hellfire, this guy ain’t for sale.  He’s for rent!

Thanks to David for the heads up.

  1. Mary Margaret says:

Rachel Maddow pointed out last night that Jesse Benton, the campaign manager for Ron Paul is now Mitch McConnell’s campaign manager. Please pass the popcorn.

  2. Since the invention of the Superpacs and the Supreme Court’s decision that corporations can so whatever they almost want – I am surprised that the GOPers manage to find any remaining campaign laws to break – but they manage.

    2
  3. So the Great Plagiarizer did not know that his campaign staff was bribing officials to support him. Anybody who believes that might be interested in buying a certain bridge located
in Brooklyn. And this guy took a whole camera crew with him to report on his medical mission to an underdeveloped country, so we could all see how good he is. Paul has a huge problem with the integrity factor. I’m sure there’s more to come on this issue.

  4. maryelle, wasn’t Rand Paul the guy who took a camera crew to a homeless shelter to take pictures of him helping the poor, but it was late and everybody had already eaten and left, so he just pretended to wash some clean pots?

And I’m with Cheryl– there are still campaign laws?

    4
  5. It was Paul Ryan who pulled the washing the pots after they were clean stunt.

  6. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Rhea, it was the other Paul, Paul Ryan who arrived late to wash pots that were already cleaned. Not that there’s much to distinguish one tin foil hat Republican from another. Does it really make any difference that Ran Paul plagiarizes pages, while Paul Ryan shakes blank pages and calls them a budget?

    6
  7. Rhea: That was Paul Ryan. Got your Pauls confused–but they are all Rethugs, so who can tell ’em apart?

  8. phoebebengus says:

No it wasn’t Rand Paul although he would probably have done it if he’d thought of it.
It was actually Paul Ryan our wonderful candidate for VP on the ticket with that “paragon of virtue” Mitt Romney.
Folks, they will do ANYTHING no matter how low to try to get what they want.

  9. Sandy Havens says:

Juanita Jean, I totally agree. It just offends me deeply that our so-called representatives sell themselves so cheap. Surely those poor women driven to street walking get relatively more for their services than most politicians do. Talk about 2 dollar whores!

    9
  10. I’m confuse-ed.
Which Paul did this Sorenson person Get paid from? the Quote say’s Ron but everything else say’s Rand……
    Just sayin……

    10
  11. So this clown isn’t even an honest politician. He didn’t stay bought but sold out to the next bidder after Bachmann

    11
  12. W. C. Peterson says:

Hey, folks. It was RON PAUL’s (Rand’s crazy daddy) campaign manager who was the “briber” Sorenson was the “bribee” and the number Rachel quoted was like $73,000 to jump ship from Bachmann. It sounded like she was paying him, too, but he got a higher bid from Ron Paul.
The upshot is, the “briber” is now Mitch McConnell’s campaign Manager, and I would guess that old habits die hard. I’m sure more will come out about the McConnell camp in weeks to come.
    Please pass the popcorn.

  13. Marcia in CO says:

How about a little butter and seasoning salt for all that popcorn? Maybe a toddy or 2 to wash it all down with, as well.

Geez … all this stuff makes me lightheaded!!

    13
  14. betty@georgetown says:

Marcia: Popcorn, butter, and salt, and instead of a toddy, “a $99. beer pack with 99 beers.” But you’ll have to bring your long bed pickup truck down to Austin to get it.

    14
  15. This is all chump change compared to the McDonnell trail in Richmond! His public career is over and there is huge doubt that he can get a job with a law firm or any other kind of business. She will probably put a For Sale sign on the lawn, hire a divorce lawyer, pack up and move someplace where no one ever heard of either of them. And since I liv win Virginia, I won’t miss either one!

    15
  16. e platypus onion says:

Afterall we’re talking iowa where everything except farm land can be bought cheap.

    16
  17. Maggie, I’ve had my popcorn out for the McDonnell case (cue theme from “One Life to Live”) He’s a scummy dirtball, blaming everyone but himself; his wife in particular. She apparently is just plain nuts. I feel a little sorry for Maureen though; her husband is treating her like a dog he’s gotten tired of.

And what’s this about his living with a gay priest? Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but this is Bob “Mr Morality” McDonnell.

I don’t live in Va, but in a DC suburb in Maryland. I always thought he was a bit…icky.

    17
  18. Julie, we felt the same way. Here was this Notre Dame grad with the princely looks and he chose to go to Pat Robertson’s law school? One of the papers he wrote in law school was released to the public during the campaign and OMG it was full of Robertson Rant!!! Now we have to see how this plays out with future Repunkican governor wannabes. Somebody is always going to compare them to little Bobby whether they like it or not!

  19. Polite Kool Marxist says:

My favorite part of this drama/soap opera is that McTurtle is caught in this vise as well as his comments at the Koch party.

Go Alison! There are solid 20 second spots with this material.

“Mitch McConnell: dirtier than Koch money.”
