This Might Be The Start of Something Big!

Let’s decide once and for all what Fake News really is.  Remember when it was easy to tell the difference?

Well, now it can be a little harder but one thing is for sure — news is not fake simply because a Republican doesn’t like it.

And somebody is standing up to them.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel in Colorado is accusing state Sen. Ray Scott of defamation and threatening to sue. If filed, legal experts said it would be the first suit of its kind, potentially setting a legal definition for what is considered fake news and what is not.

The Sentinel published an editorial asking that the state senator go forward on bill to make it easier to obtain public records.  The senator did not take kindly to some damn body making legitimate requests.

Scott took issue with the column on Twitter. “We have our own fake news in Grand Junction,” Scott tweeted.

Boy Howdy, Sen. Ray Scott just poked the wrong publisher. He’s says he gonna take a few days to cool down but he damn well might sue.  A lawyer who has represented the Sentinel before has a say, too.

“We are seeing a trend, not just here in Colorado, but that politicians for a variety of reasons have taken to calling very legitimate media entities — whether it be The New York Times, The Washington Post or CNN — fake news,” he said. “It’s intended to delegitimize those sources for news.”

Oh, this might be fun.

Thanks to Brad for the heads up.

Jake Tapper On Conspiracy Theories and Actual Facts

February 16, 2017 By: El Jefe Category: Trump

Last night, Jake Tapper of CNN finally got enough of SCROTUS’s insults and “fake news” twitter attacks on the media.  He let loose with a comparison of conspiracy theories and actual facts.  It’s pretty entertaining.

I Shot the Sheriff

January 18, 2017 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Y’all, Sid Miller, world renown purveyor of Fake News and proud of it, has done it again.

Claims by a Texas lawmaker that ‘illegal aliens attacked’ a hunting party have been dismissed as fake by a local sheriff who says the hunters fired on one another.

Texas Agricultural Commissioner Sid Miller used the alleged attack on a hunting party by ‘violent illegal immigrants’ as justification for why a wall must be built to secure the Texas border, in a January Facebook post.

Sid says it doesn’t matter diddle squat if he puts false information on his Facebook page, fanning the fears and hatred of all things he doesn’t like, because he’s not a “news source.”  He says you should go to his Facebook page and figure out for yourself whether something is real or made-up. Do you think he’s got time to do your research for you?  Do you think he can use the Google machine? Well, he can’t, so get over it. That whole “Responsible Adult” thing is something liberals made up.

Sheriff Danny Dominguez

Anyway, Danny Dominguez, the Presidio County Sheriff, who is a man you really don’t want to mess with, says that Miller’s story was false and smilingly added …

‘The agriculture commissioner needs to do his job and stick to that, and I’ll do my job. You tell him I said that.’

Sheriff Dominguez says the hunters fired on each other with “several factors contributing” to the friendly fire. You can translate that to, “they were drunk and rowdy.”

By the way, Sheriff Dominguez, who I have had the honor of personally meeting, was the sheriff called out to the Scalia death.

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

Gun Nuts, Phony News, and Weirdo Conspiracy Theories

December 07, 2016 By: El Jefe Category: 2016 Election, Fun With Guns, Trump

This week the gun culture, the proliferation of phony news, and weird conspiracy theories all collided in a pizza joint in Washington, DC, when a convicted criminal showed up with THREE firearms to “self-investigate” an idiotic story that Hillary Clinton was running a child sex ring out of a non-existent basement under the pizza joint. Oh, and one more thing – Cheeto Jesus and his merry band of weirdos constantly repost this manure. It’s a cancer on our society.  Mike Flynn’s son was fired from the transition, but what about his father and Bannon himself?  Breitbart is a sewer of lies, misogyny, racism, and these weird conspiracy theories.

Google and Facebook Act On Fake News – Just a Tad Too Late

November 15, 2016 By: El Jefe Category: 2016 Election

Yesterday, both Google and Facebook announced they were updating their policies and algorithms in an attempt to stem the rising tide of crappola posing as real news on their websites.  That would have been a really good idea – LAST YEAR.  As we all witnessed, fake news sites that were intentionally mis-informing voters google-facebookexploded on social media during this election cycle peddling fake stories that likely swayed voters, especially the ones sparking outrage over controversies that didn’t actually occur.  The two social media companies are attempting to limit the proliferation of fake news by banning ads for those sites.  The new policies will not affect viral growth of falsehoods, so this is only a partial step.

I find it very interesting that these steps are being taken after the damage has already been done, giving a lift to Cheeto Jesus, the worst presidential candidate in US history.  This has been a problem obvious to even the most casual observer in recent years, and, in fact, the New York Times reported on how Facebook content pushers were making serious money on sponsored posts last July. So it’s certainly no surprise this has been going on for some time.

I’m certain the delay in implementing this policy after the election had nothing to do with the profits pouring into Google and Facebook from all these ads peddling BS, right?

Yeah, right.
