Shooter Had “At Least” 10 Rifles

October 02, 2017 By: El Jefe Category: Fun With Guns

The toll from the mass shooting last night is currently 50+ dead, around 400 wounded.  Hospitals in Las Vegas are running out of blood.  The shooter, thankfully dead now, had at least 10 rifles with him. At least one was an automatic rifle using high capacity magazines.  The rounds were reported to be 7.62 X 39 mm, designed by the Soviets in WWII and commonly used in rifles like the AK-47 and variants.  Most rounds of this type have a muzzle velocity of around 2,400 feet per second, and it will do a lot of damage when it makes contact.  These rounds are designed for one purpose – killing people very effectively, and that’s what happened last night.

Little is known about the shooter so far except that he is from Mesquite Nevada.  That’s right, the same Mesquite Nevada as Cliven Bundy, the infamous head of the Bundy family and anti-government weirdos who threatened to kill federal agents and whose sons occupied the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon early last year.  Coinkidink?  One can only hope.

  1. “A good guy with a gun,” huh, NRA?

    Yes, crazy. Indeed insane, but it is your culture, NRA, very carefully groomed, encouraged and implanted strictly for political power which supports this madness.

    The 2nd Amendment was about muskets, not military weapons whose only purpose is killing large numbers of people.

  3. America is exceptional!
    Exceptionally armed, exceptionally violent, and exceptionally delusional.

    3
  4. Don’t you dare try to discuss matters of gun policy. Shame on you for trying to politicize a national tragedy. It’s way too early for that.
    Unless the shooter is Muslim or black, at which point right-wingers are allowed to politicize from the get-go.

  5. WA Skeptic says:

    Hey, NRA: let’s see you rationalize this one. What, no little kids to attack any more?

    I think the families of the dead and injured should bill the NRA for the funerals and hospital bills.

  6. Since it was apparently a white male that perpetrated this obscenity, expect to see the obligatory “false flag” diarrhea blaming the ATF/liberals/George Soros for either
    a) committing this crime against humanity in order to steal our beloved arsenals or b) it was all faked in order to steal our beloved arsenals.

    Wingnuts have so much blood on their hands.

  7. Let’s not forget to thank Ted Cruz for successfully arguing the Heller case before the Supreme Court. We are forever in his debt. Some of us more than others.

    7
  8. I think Trump should call for a ban on 64 year-old white guys from Nevada.

    My warmest condolences to the next NRA member killed with a gun that doesn’t kill people.

    Nevada allows people to own and carry fully auto wmds if they meet federal guidelines.

    This is Obama’s fault because he didn’t fulfill NRA ‘s numerous promises to confiscate everyone’s guns. Bad Obama.

    Waiting for Alex Jones to call this mass murder a hoax so Dems can take yer guns.

  11. Repugnantcan investors all over the country are snatching up as much stock as they can in Federal, Winchester, and Remington. This is gonna be the best thing for ammunition sales since Obama was elected.

  12. e platypus onion says:

    and. P.P.. it is all based on the same lies we heard about Obama coming for yer guns. Now I am hearing HRC would have yer guns already had she been elected. Thank gawd the Drumpf POS allows mass murders to occur.

    12
  13. Thank goodness for Drumpf’s travel ban. It’s really protecting Americans from terrorists.

    13
  14. El Jefe, there has to be something in the water in Mesquite, Nevada. I would bet on it.

    14
  15. I just heard some news person ask the relative of a wounded person whether the hospital “got the bullet out.” This isn’t “Gunsmoke” or “The Roadrunner.” The “bullets” from these weapons don’t make a nice round hole. Most of them tumble in flight and fragment into dozens of pieces when they hit anything, specially anything hard like bone. Most people who get hit will live the rest of their lives with fragments inside them. That’s why I was so pissed off when one of the customers here made some crack about Rep. Scalise getting shot in the butt. It could have killed him and almost did. Nobody deserves that.

    15
  16. White male Christian terrorists, the most dangerous in America. A fake news site was trying to claim he had converted to Islam. That’s a lie. We can assume, since he’s a white male USA citizen, he’s a Christian, just as we can assume a black male from South Sudan is a Muslim.

    White male Christians ought to be profiled, stopped by cops on any pretext, surveilled by our Dept. of Injustice, put on No Fly lists, banned from immigration or even visits. All for the sake of National Security, of course.

    16
  17. How does one get 10 high-powered rifles into a hotel with no one noticing? How does one get enough ammunition to kill 58 and wound 500 into a hotel with no one noticing? Did the housekeepers not see all guns and ammunition when they were cleaning the room?

    17
  18. Oh jeez…

    Would some one please send me a link in which a LV PD, Clark Co SO, or FBI authority produces a log of manufacturer, model, and caliber of the weapons Paddock had in his possession at the time of this shooting?

    Here are some bets I will make
    1. none of the weapons were built for true fully automatic, ie military, fire;
    2. all of them were magazine-fed as opposed to belt fed;
    3. all of them were legal for Paddock to own at the time he acquired them;
    4. I’m 50-50 on whether or not the calibers were 5.56 Nato or one of the Russian milspec rounds, but leaning toward Yes on that point
    5. Masood Ayoob has opined Paddock used a bump-fire device, which is legal to own, although IMO a bump-fire device violates the spirit of the 1934 NFA.

    It is time that legislators in the 50 states, the Congress, and responsible gun owners met to legislate one solution across the 50 states which brings the Second Amendment into 2017. Nothing should be off the table:
    licensing for use, such as FAA or FCC does or as does EVERY state and territory for driving motor vehicles;
    limiting magazine capacity to say 5 rounds for hunting calibers and 7 or 8 rounds for self-defense calibers; limiting reloading hobbyist to these same limits, possibly with additional licensing;
    limiting semi-automatic hand-guns and rifles to older. experienced shooters, although the DoD puts significant firepower in the hands of teenagers with fairly few problems, although oversight is usually heavy;
    limiting younger shooters to single shot rifles or shotguns in hunting calibers and gauges;
    limiting the number of rounds of ammunition which may be possessed at the same time: 100 rounds for a season for example; 25 rounds total for home defense calibers;
    outright banning traditionally military rounds: 9mm, .45ACP, 30-06, 7.62/.308, 223/5.56 etc etc.

    Some combination

    18
  19. I guess a droned on and hit a limit of some sort..

    Some combination of these licensing and limiting steps will bring the Second Amendment into 2017. I refuse to believe the Founders contemplated a society that would turn their militia muskets on their fellow citizens and allowed that reality to become part of the 2A.

    19
  20. @Larry from Colorado

    With all due respect, I believe the purpose of a military rifle round is not to kill, but to induce grievous injuries. It is psychologically and tactically advantageous for your enemy combatants to be injured. A battlefield injury takes more than one firearm off the battlefield, if only for a while. Dead soldiers are much easier to march past.

    Paddock lived in Mesquite , Texas, too.

    It is quite legal, so I read, to parade around Las Vegas with full auto weapons as long as you have the requisite federal stamps/registration and can afford the 10s of thousands of dollars a pre-1986 gun would cost you.

  22. e platypus onion says:

    Military ammo is supposed to be FMJ so as not to mushroom and cause unnecessary injuries. The M-15 5.56 bullet had a habit of riccocheting around inside the human body damaging organs.

    Micr, our good friend, please make copies of what you just stated and send them to Congress to be submitted as a bill. Or, better yet, run for Congress. You could smack out a sane comprehensive gun safety bill and be highly effective at smacking out a few votes in Congressional washrooms.

    23
  24. @Good friends Jane & PKM,

    I have sent a version of that post to the email address of my Congressporker and both Texas Senators. Any salon reader who feels as I do about the sporting value of firearm ownership but who grows more and more appalled at the carnage our firearms have wrought should feel free to email their opinions for a 2017 Comprehensive firearms Safety Bill to their own Congressporkers and Senators.

    24
  25. Jane & PKM says:

    Micr, will do. Also please feel free to appropriate as your own our Senator Cortez Masto and the Democrats of your choice. As good as your bill is, most of your Texas Congress varmints and two vile Sinators are too st00pid to read, much less comprehend. We feel your pain, as we suffer the fool Mark Amodei and on any given day have no idea which shiny object will send Dean Heller into a frenzy of jumping down wacky wabbit holes.

    Thinking I need to waste a couple of stamps. Those snacilbupeR varmints don’t accept e-mails from outside their states/districts. Will definitely send Rep Pelosi and Sen Schumer copies. Then waste 2 on a snarky c/c to Lyin’ Ryan and the Senate terrapin to share with their obtuse colleagues daring them to exhibit some reading skills.
