Puerto Rico

September 25, 2017 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I’m here to tell you that if Puerto Rico had white people living there (1) they would be a state and (2) they would be getting the help they so desperately need right now.

Let’s rent out a few cruise ships and send them to house people until we can get some emergency shelters on the island.  Let’s use the National Guard to help clear the island and restore fresh drinking water.  Let’s send power generators until electricity is restored.

This is Trump’s Katrina.

Attention, please.

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

Love all of your ideas, Miss JJ. But, of course, they require a White House that actually cares, no?

I guess U.S. citizens are gonna have to do it… again. How about a GoFundMe page for Puerto Rico?

  2. Trump has at his disposal the US Navy ship Comfort
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USNS_Comfort_(T-AH-20)

He could be treating the devastation of Puerto Rico as a national emergency, dispatching federal government resources, sending ships to serve as sources of power, directing that emergency generators be airlifted on seaplanes, sending combat engineers to restore drinkable water and restore power.

    He has done nothing.
He could be a genuine hero — the opportunity is staring him in the face — and he’s a nothing.

  3. Damn straight! But, but . . . he doesn’t have any golf courses on the island

  4. Carol wyatt says:

Trump just announced he won’t do anything to address Puerto Rico until NEXT WEEK. These people cannot wait that long. what is wrong with this moron and the people who are “managing” him?

  5. tRump’s silence is deafening. Note, he does not own but his name is on a golf resort on PR. Also the response to PR and USVI after Irma was hampered by Hurricane Jose. Barges with supplies had to divert to safe water until Jose moved. Channels are being assessed and cleared but it takes time. Fuel facilities have been damaged and ports that normally can take fuel are damaged. Generators need fuel. Generators are on island and more are on the way.

Please do not forget the U.S. Virgin Islands. The folks living on St. John and St. Thomas have been without power since September 7th. Think about that. St. Croix had partial power but now 95% of the island is without power.

National Guard, FEMA, DOD and the alphabet soup of Fed agencies are working to clear roads on PR and USVI. It is still raining and there have been landslides in PR impeding progress and making the situation dangerous for the folks clearing the roads. US Coast Guard is clearing the channels so boats can get in but it all takes time. This is most unfortunate for those folks in the rural areas of PR that have been totally cut off since Maria hit last week.

Communications on PR is non-existent. FEMA has sent hundreds of satellite phones. FEMA is also providing 6 million meals a day which are being distributed primarily by NGOs.

Food and water is being airdropped onto the Vieques and Culebra — islands off the coast of PR. Department of Interior staff on the islands is coordinatiing the distribution of the food and water.

  6. Has anyone told tRump about Puerto Rico yet? He’s been so busy with his twitting about men taking a knee, rallying his base, and threatening war with N. Korea, he just doesn’t have time for much else, other than golf.

It’s wonder anyone has any respect for our country now. I hope Karma is taking notice.

    6
  7. trump does not care, he see’s nothing in it for him! You are right they need our help. Your ideas on great and should be implemented NOW not next week.

    7
  8. Puerto Ricans, not Donnie J’s favorite shade of skin.
The have a strange accent. Most important question, how many votes in the electoral college?
    That answer is zero.
Er go why would Donnie J even care?

    8
  9. People have suggested carrying tiki torches or painting themselves orange to get Trump’s notice. I think they should offer him some prime beachfront for a new Trump golf resort.

They can always renege later, as he does.

    9
  10. Amen!

    10
  11. Puerto Rico has:
    No electricity,
    No water,
    No phone service,
80% of its agriculture has been destroyed.
It is America, we darn well need to act, NOW,

    11
  12. @#5–I wasn’t aware that so much was being done, but it is obvious that more assistance is needed.

JJ–Thanks for posting this; I will be forwarding it to everyone I know on my “Politics” list.

  13. There’s nothing to be expected from Donnie, if it doesn’t directly benefit Donnie. However, that does not preclude us from contacting our Congress varmints with every point Ms JJ made and a few more.

Yeah Donnie health care is tough. So is governing. It requires a team effort. Either lead, or get the hell out of the way. And, no, do NOT go to Jared.

The answer is right there in Florida. Ask Gen Kelly or McMaster about 7115 S Boundary Blvd in Tampa, Florida 33621. That’s the United States Central Command. You should know that by now, if you were not such a dotard.

    13
  14. Donnie’s latest Tweets are what you’d expect, these are his first Tweets/Comments about Puerto Rico and they came 48 minutes ago.

“Texas & Florida are doing great but Puerto Rico, which was already suffering from broken infrastructure & massive debt, is in deep trouble..”

“…It’s old electrical grid, which was in terrible shape, was devastated. Much of the Island was destroyed, with billions of dollars….”

“…owed to Wall Street and the banks which, sadly, must be dealt with. Food, water and medical are top priorities – and doing well. #FEMA”

To that all I can say is #DoingAHeckOfAJob Brownie!

  15. joel hanes says: “He has done nothing.
He could be a genuine hero — the opportunity is staring him in the face — and he’s a nothing.”

Not quite, Joel. SOBOTUS is an ignorant, vile, petty, vicious, lying Piece.Of.Shit.
    On his better days.
And is genetically incapable of being a ‘hero’, he wouldn’t even be a decent villain without his many devious, traitorous minions actually controlling things.

    15
  16. Deb, thanks for the link. We have friends in PR and haven’t heard from them.

    16
  17. I rather doubt that he knows PR & VI are part of this country. Not that he’d give a shit. They don’t speak English u know. For that matter either does he.

    17
  18. Deb: The billions owed to vulture funds has to be dealt with as a condition of relief? Never mind that Puerto Rico is being denied bankruptcy by the hedge fund donees in the Republican Congress. Trump filed the Taj and a bunch of other failures and walked away. Orange County California bought junk bond funding and filed. Yet Puerto Rico has to pay the vultures as part of the recovery process. Not enough white retirees on the island, I would guess. This will be worse than the Katrina relief debacle.

    18
  19. Gee, I wonder how many millions of dollars the royal family infesting the White House has contributed to hurricane relief efforts — oh, wait — I know it’s a big zero. Thank you, Deb for that link. I donated earlier tonight at that site, although I have to admit here that we’re not millionaires, much less billionaires, but I hope that any and all donations will help. Trump is too busy using the NFL to deflect attention and shore up his base to care about anything else. Trump cares about Trump — period.

    19
  20. WA a lot is being done but it is nowhere near enough. The administration does not see this as a priority. The WH concern is Florida and Texas. Even the cabinet level people do not care that their own folks are unaccounted for for example, DOI 4 people unaccounted, Park Service 6 unaccounted, Secret Service, CBP and DEA will not release how many are unaccounted for due to security concerns and these are just examples.

Until USVI and PR get media attention the WH will not care. I am relieved that media is finally pushing the reality that is happening on the islands.

On the positive side: EPA has an assessment team on St. Croix testing the water at the water treatment facility. It takes time for the results but if they come back clean (most likely results later today) St. Croix will have potable water. Food and water is being distributed but not easily accessible due to many roads either washed away or littered with debris. I could go on but you get the picture. And, St. Thomas and St. John are still without power since September 7.

    20
  21. Saw film on teevee of Ricans crowded into the airport terminal trying like mad to be in whatever line forms for a flight out to anywhere. Everyone is sleeping on the floor. They have lights but no AC etc. etc. They are not waiting for the Barking Yam to discover – along with way too many others – that Ricans are Americans. Instead, he is playing to his ever shrinking base who are as nauseous as he is. God help us all.

    21
  22. There have been miserable, do nothing presidents before but none as vile, evil and distructive as traitor trump. His evil will take years to repair. And sadly the splendid people of Puerto Rico are paying a high price for his soulless hate. The NFL players he tries to trash (even fails at that) do more for victims of disasters than the filth in the Oval Office. All he cares about are ratings. Well his are at zero especially in the world. Karma and Nemesis and the ‘Kindly Ones” notice.

    22
  23. dobleremolque says:

Little known fact: major cell phone companies like Verizon et al have portable self-contained cell phone towers that are routinely deployed to supplement areas where events might trigger high demand for cell phone bandwidth. Example, major sports event where a stadium full of people with mobile phones put extra demand on the network. How’s about commandeering those towers, flying them over to PR on C-5s or 747 air freighters, and using them to rapidly restore cell phone comm?

    23
  24. Why Trump won’t help the people of Puerto Rico.

    1. They’re brown.
    2. None of them can vote.
    3. If they did vote, it probably wouldn’t be for him.
    4. Did I mention that they’re brown?

    Despicable!
